PV-Lifeline Safety in case of danger
Fire in buildings with installed PV generators Internal Dangers for Firefighters - Danger to emergency personnel from contact with live PV cables installed in the building, with voltages up to 1000 VDC. - After fire fighting activities, live and possibly damaged PV cables can come into direct or even indirect (puddles of water!) contact with emergency personnel. External Dangers for Firefighters - If there is insufficient access through the roof then the means of access to the installed PV system is blocked for the firefighters. - If necessary, the modules must be removed during the operation to enable access through the facade/roof membrane. - As long as the DC circuit has not been interrupted, there is danger from arcing and contact with live PV cables. Challenge in PV-Systems. Danger for forces. 2

Burning buildings with PV systems represent a special challenge for emergency personnel due to the danger of electric shock. To ensure safe operations, the PV DC lines are housed within line protection trunking to rule out contact by rescue workers and other persons during a fire. In addition to structural measures, an electrical measure can also be applied: the PVL-X system. The solution: PV-Lifeline. Safety in case of danger. 3
PVL-X-System The PVL-X-System is a photovoltaics safety system consisting of a control unit (PVLE-Box) and a generator junction box (PVLS-Box) with DC switch disconnector. With this new photovoltaics safety system from Spelsberg, the generator junction box with the switch disconnector is installed in a sheltered external area in the immediate vicinity of the PV cables ingress to the building. In a dangerous situation, it interrupts the PV system s electrical circuit on the roof where the individual strings of modules come together. PVL-X-System. Easy - Safe - comfortable. 4

The switch can be operated at a central, easy-to-reach position such as the entrance area of a building. Once the flow of electricity to the inverter in the house is interrupted, the firefighters inside can extinguish the fire without worries about high voltage. This ensures the safety of the emergency personnel during and after the operation, since work can be performed safely inside the building after firefighting is completed. 5
