HEALTHY LIVING WITH WOOD FIBRE INSULATING MATERIALS HIGH-QUALITY INSULATION. SUSTAINABLE LIVING. www.homatherm.com

Preamble THE EXAMPLE OF NATURE Sustainable living to us means harnessing the forces of nature, using natural resources to create a healthy living environment lasting well into the future. Our major accomplishments are based on nature s examples. HOMATHERM insulating materials exploit these capacities for intelligent building solutions. A new technical mindset is based on detailed examination of natural raw materials and in-depth investigation into the demands of modern architecture. Natural HOMATHERM insulating materials are adapted to the constantly changing demands of modern construction as successfully as life is adapting to new circumstances. 2 3

VERSATILE SOLUTIONS AVAIL YOURSELF OF NATURE S ADVANTAGES Use wood and cellulose materials to achieve both high quality and sustainable insulation. We offer you solutions for insulation using: flexible insulating batts compression resistant insulation boards loose insulating fill (flocs) The utilisation of buildings is as multifaceted as their design. Yet one demand remains: The insulation must offer optimal protection. This is not possible, however, using only standard solutions. HOMATHERM has developed a suitable product to satisfy each of the various demands: Flexible wood fibre or cellulose insulating batts, clampable, form-fitting and without gaps, flocs with excellent flow properties and the compression resistant wood fibre insulation boards which can double as emergency roofing. Products with excellent properties in terms of building physics and an innovative concept all under one roof. 4 5

HIGH-GRADE INSULATION FOR HEALTHY LIVING Contemporary insulation systems such as the on-roof insulation system or the EnergiePlus composite thermal insulation system offer more than just protection from summer s heat. Optimal thermal protection in winter, saving you significant energy costs, is as significant as top acoustic and moisture protection figures. Allowing you to create new living and working standards. WOOD PROTECTS The concern of fire protection is raised every time, especially for natural materials such as wood and cellulose. Wood can burn that is correct. But more importantly: Wood is more resistant to fire than many other building materials. To offer you the best possible protection, HOMATHERM insulating materials are impregnated for fire protection, using flame retardant mineral salts also used in fertilisers. 6 7

PROTECTION FROM HEAT SUMMER HEAT PROTECTION FROM HEAT Enjoy heat protection phase shifted by 10 hours. High specific heat capacity High raw density Low thermal conductivity Proven in a model project involving the two units of a duplex house in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany: HOMATHERM offers genuine advantages, especially protection from heat: Two identical houses with two identical insulating systems, insulated with HOMATHERM on the one hand and with mineral fibre on the other, produced clear results: Up to 6 C lower ambient temperatures in summer. Even though the HOMATHERM insulation was one centimetre thinner than the competition. SLEEPING UP TO 6 C COOLER THERMAL PROTECTION Avoiding costs whilst preserving the environment. Reduced cost of heating in winter Low thermal conductivity from λ D = 0.038 W/(mK) Dimensionally stable insulation PROTECTION FROM: WINTER COLD Invite the comfort standard into your home with wood or cellulose insulating materials. Commercially available insulation systems primarily save energy in winter; HOMATHERM will demonstrate the difference: Not only do you clearly save on heating costs over the cold months, but you will sleep cooler in summer thanks to optimal protection from heat and you will also enjoy peace and quiet all year round thanks to maximum acoustic protection, conducive to life-long healthy living with ecological insulating materials. Collect your HOMATHERM insulating materials for your roof, walls and floors for that feeling of all-round comfort! Just 160 mm HOMATHERM insulation material delivers a 10 hour phase shift. 8 9

LOW THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY SAVES ENERGY PROTECTION FROM MOISTURE λ D = 0.038 HOME-COMFORT CLIMATE Moisture is the enemy of any building and will ultimately diminish the quality of life. We have all already experienced: rain on the outside and condensate forming inside cause considerable structural stress. The high capacity for absorbing moisture and the vapour-permeable properties ENERGY SAVING Avoiding costs whilst preserving the environment. U value of your choice Low thermal conductivity from λ D = 0.038 W/(mK) Dimensionally stable and convection-blocking insulation BUILDING ECONOMICALLY Buildings must these days comply with the Energie-Einsparungsverordnung (EnEv) [Energy Saving Ordinance] directives. The critical factor is the U value, the thermal transmission coefficient. The U value quantifies the heat transferred (lost) through one square meter of a clearly defined building element over one hour, given a 1 C difference in temperature across the building element. The smaller this figure, the better the insulating property of the building element. PROTECTION FROM MOISTURE Sustainable home-comfort climate for generations. Vapour-permeable construction Absorbing and adsorptive properties Very good buffering of moisture in the building element of HOMATHERM wood fibre insulation provide excellent protection against moisture a prerequisite for pleasant indoor temperatures. HOMATHERM in this way actively contributes to the prevention of structural damage, offering a healthy indoor climate. Economical and responsible building. λ D = 0,038 W/(m K) LOW THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY SAVES ENERGY Long-term structural protection 10 11

ACOUSTIC INSULATION ECOLOGY UP TO 66 db ACOUSTIC INSULATION ACOUSTIC INSULATION For all demands. For a new quality of life. Absorbing fibre structure Low dynamic rigidity High flow resistance per meter FOR A NEW QUALITY OF LIFE TESTED FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY ECOLOGY Tested environmentally safe insulating materials made of wood Structures without chemical wood protection Virtually no VOC and formaldehyde emission CO2-neutral raw materials, full declaration HOMATHERM insulating materials are based on environmentally safe substances: They have very low thermal conductivities and are therefore ideally suited as insulating materials. The HOMATHERM ecological insulating materials offer outstanding advantages, thanks to ongoing development applying state of the art techniques leading to technically mature application. HOMATHERM insulating materials regularly demonstrate these advantages and their ecological sustainability through the natureplus quality certification of the flexible wood fibre insulating batts and the compression resistant wood fibre insulation boards. Pleasantly quiet living areas HOMATHERM protects not only from cold and heat but also from noise. Acoustic damping depends on the type of construction also. For wall structures, we measure the airborne sound damping coefficient, i.e. how many decibels emitted by a source of noise the wall will swallow. At up to 66 db acoustic insulation, this very effectively dampens the noise level of e.g. a road with heavy traffic, rendering the living areas pleasantly quiet. Healthy indoor climate, building for healthy living Saving energy is a must. For economic reasons and to protect nature. 12 13
