Ocean Engineering, Surveying and Mapping Services

FUGRO PELAGOS, INC. Fugro collects and interprets data related to the earth s surface and the soils and rocks beneath. It provides advice based on the results, generally for purposes related to the oil and gas industry, mining and the construction of buildings or civil engineering structures. Fugro operates around the world at sea, on land and from the air, using professional, highly specialized staff and advanced technologies, data gathering equipment and systems many of which have been developed inhouse. Fugro was founded in 1962, has been listed on Euronext N.V. in Amsterdam since 1992 and has been included in the Amsterdam Midkap index since 2002. Fugro has over 250 offices, about 8,000 staff and a permanent presence in almost 60 countries. Fugro s organization is comprised of three divisions: Geotechnical Services, Marine Survey and Geoscience Services. As part of Fugro Group, Fugro Pelagos, Inc. with offices in San Diego, Anchorage, Honolulu and Stennis is the primary government services business in North America. It is a premier provider of high-resolution hydrographic and seabed mapping services. While continuing to serve industry, it is a major contractor to all levels of government including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Geological Survey and numerous state and local agencies including academia. Fugro Pelagos integrates and enhances advanced technologies such as multibeam echo sounders (MBES), multibeam backscatter snippets imagery, hydrographic LIDAR, topographic LIDAR, photogrammetry and GIS to provide customers with innovative solutions that have redefined the manner and quality in which the seafloor can now be mapped and displayed. The company s multidisciplinary staff of hydrographic surveyors, remote sensing specialists, ocean engineers, geomatics engineers, engineering geologists, geophysicists, physical oceanographers, geographers and GIS specialists offer the technical expertise and operational experience to meet any customer s needs. It takes pride in its ability to provide customers with the personalized attention, innovation and rapid response of a small company while drawing on the resources of Fugro s global infrastructure of worldwide offices. Fugro Pelagos understands its customers needs because it works alongside them. Its project managers and their teams maintain full control of a project from beginning to end to ensure its technological and commercial success. Whether in the field or at the drawing board, customers can be confident they are receiving products and services that meet their specific needs. Seabed and Riverine Mapping Services Hydrographic Surveying and Charting, Coastal Zone, Riverine and Seafloor Habitat Mapping Fugro Pelagos offers a full range of expert services in high-resolution seabed / riverine mapping from project consultation, data analysis and interpretation to full project management, data integration and execution. The company has developed innovative and robust data acquisition and processing systems and methodologies that ensure the highest quality data and deliverables. For several years it has held the largest single hydrographic charting contract for NOAA and collected billions of soundings during this period. Most recently, it became the first company to integrate simultaneously acquired airborne LIDAR and vesselbased MBES bathymetry data under a contract to NOAA for nautical charting. The company can operate from its own fleet of vessels or mobilize systems and personnel on vessels of opportunity worldwide. It has successfully conducted offshore survey operations from platforms ranging from shallow-water skiffs to ocean-going survey vessels, in some cases supporting multiple survey launches. FPI Precise Timing is available to all users and has been recently adopted by NOAA for MBES acquisition methodology. It can also provide airborne LIDAR bathymetry services anywhere in the world on suitable aircraft of opportunity. These LIDAR-based applications include both coastal zone and riverine environments and can be conducted from either fixed or rotary wing survey platforms. Working with its strategic technology partners, Fugro Pelagos has developed systems and processes that enable it to rapidly and efficiently acquire the highest quality and resolution of seabed acoustic imagery available today. This imagery is obtained simultaneously with 100% bathymetric coverage from the same sensor. Because the two datasets are perfectly co-registered, superior data integration and visualization is now possible, making interpretation of fisheries and benthic habitats much clearer for resource managers, ecologists and the public. In addition, survey productivity is greatly improved as acquisition speeds and weather windows increase. The company is also able to combine these acoustic datasets with hydrographic and topographic LIDAR data, LIDAR- Integrated airborne LIDAR bathymetry and topography of a shallow river

based seabed imagery, hyperspectral imaging and digital airborne photography to produce comprehensive maps from the coastal zone and riverine environments to any required depth. The integrated data sets can then be delivered in GIS formats or via web server for wide and rapid geographic accessibility. Fugro Pelagos has pioneered the concept of dual-use data collection and has developed working partnerships with both NOAA and the USACE. By embracing NOAA s Ecosystems Approach to Management, the company has been very successful in coordinating marine survey programs of several government agencies with different interests such that one data set supports all participants missions. This is the concept behind the company s portable airborne LIDAR system that can function in both hydrographic and topographic modes, acquire digital airborne imagery and provide LIDAR-based seabed imagery from a single platform. Services include the following: Multispectral imaging of nearshore habitats Singlebeam and multibeam echosounder surveys Multibeam backscatter snippets imagery GIS and data management 3D modeling and visualization Sun-illuminated bathymetric renderings IHO- and NOAA-standard nautical charting An Ecosystem Approach to Management is management that is adaptive, specified geographically, takes into account ecosystem knowledge and uncertainties, considers multiple external influences, and strives to balance diverse social objectives.
