3 TerraGo Solutions for Oil and Gas Whether in the exploration phase or managing pipeline integrity, TerraGo geospatial solutions solve the critical need for actionable geospatial intelligence at every point in the petroleum lifecycle. TerraGo solutions uniquely create and interact with GeoPDF maps that provide oil and gas professionals with complex digital terrain, asset, and infrastructure information in a portable, sharable PDF document that anyone can use. TerraGo solutions enable today s oil and gas companies to leverage the robust maps, imagery and data originated in complex GIS solutions. With TerraGo, this information can be published for reference as well as data collection by anyone in the enterprise. By making geospatial information easy to access and use, TerraGo solutions help your business expedite production, reduce risk and ensure regulatory and industry compliance. Actionable Intelligence at the Speed of Business The complexity and sheer volume of data required to safely find, produce and distribute petroleum resources is astounding. Keeping that information updated and shared across disparate teams is a formidable challenge and a substantial business risk. With TerraGo, oil and gas professionals throughout the entire production lifecycle are able to access current geospatial intelligence, while also using this as a base upon which to collect new information from the field. Geospatial Capabilities Made Easy for Those Who Are Not Map Experts Complex GIS technology requires advanced expertise in order to create maps, imagery and data as well as analyze this information and make it actionable. The challenge in any organization with investments in GIS is how to make this information accessible and actionable to the many personnel who can improve the business with this intelligence, but who have expertise in areas other than mapping. Using TerraGo solutions, GIS experts are able to publish GeoPDF maps to deliver powerful intelligence that can be rapidly deployed and easily accessed by anyone. TerraGo brings relevance to the vast geological, asset and infrastructure data collected throughout the petroleum production process. TerraGo focuses on easy access, visualization, and collaboration capabilities to identify opportunities and risks as well as align assets.
4 GeoPDF Maps TerraGo solutions uniquely create, compose, and interact with GeoPDF maps, which are georeferenced files that contain information layers from GIS systems and other sources of geospatial information. Published in a simple, PDF form, these digital maps are easy to widely distribute and can be used by anyone with access to the free and ubiquitous Adobe Reader software (as well as more advanced Adobe Acrobat software commonly used by commercial organizations). With the TerraGo Mobile solution or the free TerraGo Toolbar for Adobe software, users can reference coordinates, navigate, measure, and create markups such as notes, lines, images, video, audio, and more. GeoPDF files enable users not trained in GIS, such as field operators, to access the maps, imagery and data of GIS in Adobe Acrobat or Reader. In addition, users can add georeferenced information to the files and then export it to other applications. GeoPDF files also create digital georeferenced maps from print sources such as topographic maps. A key feature that distinguishes the GeoPDF file from alternatives is that that they are robust, interactive GeoPDF maps which can be used offline you can take GeoPDF maps anywhere in the field. No connection to the Internet or proprietary networks is required. In addition, a user can add information that can be easily exported to GIS systems, Google Earth, other GeoPDF maps or a variety of geospatial applications. GeoPDF files enable customization by the user, collaboration with other users, and data collection that enhances the central GIS information. TerraGo Solutions: GeoPDF Maps Easy to use Easy to distribute Deliver robust maps in a disconnected environment Enable collaboration: information collection and sharing Benefits of TerraGo Solutions for Oil and Gas: Reduced risk throughout the production lifecycle Increased compliance Faster decision-making Better sharing of information between multiple disciplines and production phases Improved asset management Key Challenges in Oil and Gas Perhaps the greatest challenge in the oil and gas industry is the accessibility of accurate information. Finding a way to organize, leverage and distribute the mass amounts of data collected in the production process, without sacrificing accuracy, can be impossible without the right technology. This intelligence whether related to drilling safety or pipeline logistics is crucial to the safety and efficiency of today s complex petroleum operations and is the linchpin for many critical business decisions. Another challenge is timeliness. In an industry where information can be the difference between profits and disaster, the success of your business is only as good as how current your data is. Surprisingly, many of today s oil and gas professionals lack access to realtime, context-rich information often relying on paper maps to conduct exploration and manage production and assets. Without this access, oil and gas companies can miss major exploration opportunities, increase safety and environmental risks, and fall out of compliance with industry and government regulations. This is where TerraGo comes in. Through our geospatial collaboration software, TerraGo allows you to compile and share location-based data in portable GeoPDF maps. These dynamic maps layer real-time geographic, geologic, environmental and asset-based information so every decision maker in the production process has access to actionable intelligence. While GIS solutions such as ESRI ArcGIS do the heavy lifting in manipulating and analyzing geospatial intelligence, TerraGo solutions enable robust GIS information to be widely distributed even to the field and to disconnected environments. TerraGo also enables mobile workers to access this information and provides the ability for the data to be enriched by users on-the-ground observations. In addition, information can be easily shared between users in the field or roundtripped back to the central GIS database.

TerraGo delivers accessible, portable and sharable geospatial intelligence needed to improve the efficiency and safety of today s petroleum production processes. TerraGo solutions can enable Oil and Gas companies to distribute actionable geospatial information and empower anyone in the enterprise to collaborate with GeoPDF maps and imagery. Some examples of scenarios where collaborating with GeoPDF maps can improve efficiencies and enhance decision-making include: Hydrocarbon Exploration Geologists with major oil companies can use TerraGo solutions to publish and update surface and subsurface terrain maps. Using TerraGo s GeoPDF maps, geology teams can make notes from the field, collect field information, track themselves via GPS and post all pertinent information back to the enterprise system. This information can be combined with asset-based mapping capabilities to create geospatial intelligence that empowers companies to identify exploration opportunities and challenges based on accurate, updated information. TerraGo solutions were used to produce these GeoPDF regional tectonic atlas maps for use in petroleum exploration. Implementation of this technology allows geoscientists to rapidly inspect and evaluate aspects of the earth s gravity field with sedimentary basin outlines and other structural information. Integration with Google maps and the ability to make notations via the TerraGo GeoMark features enhance the collaborative capabilities and simplify access to critical geographic information for new venture teams. (Source: Fugro Gravity & Magnetic Services Inc.) Field Production & Operation Drilling enterprises can leverage TerraGo solutions to better distribute and collaborate with GIS information on developed and underdeveloped oil fields, pipeline locations and who is operating in those locations. As new geologic and operator data enters the enterprise system, companies can rapidly publish the latest data throughout the enterprise in a format easily used by personnel who are not trained in GIS. This way, everyone has a common operating picture to keep a pulse on major oil fields and the level of infrastructure required to support a high level of production. Oil and Gas workers use GeoPDF maps which provide an easily distributed, accurate operations picture including geographic, infrastructure, oil fields, natural resource references and permits. The multi-layers of a GIS system are retained by a GeoPDF and can be turned on and off for easy viewing.
9 Pipeline Integrity Management Global petroleum companies construction and engineering staffs can use TerraGo solutions to collaborate with geospatial intelligence during construction of new pipelines as well as ongoing pipeline management. With GeoPDF maps and imagery in hand, personnel have a common, widely distributed base map with data and imagery to assist in routing the pipeline and navigating complex decisions concerning land management, environmental regulations and assessment, and transportation. Operator Compliance In the U.S., oil and gas operators are subjected to frequent and rigorous public agency audits (e.g. Department of Transportation) to ensure their assets meet current safety and environmental standards. Due to the sheer number of different assets, many of these large operators are challenged to ensure every piece of equipment and location is accounted for in the auditing process. Operators can use TerraGo GeoPDF solutions to geographically manage assets with geospatially aware data points such as last inspection dates, compliance issues, etc. Incident Management and Response TerraGo GeoPDF maps serve as a base map and a platform for gathering field data during an oil spill or other type of incident management and response situation. TerraGo technology is currently taught to industry personnel and emergency responders at the U.S.-based National Spill Control School which is part of Texas A&M University. Hundreds of professionals have been taught to use TerraGo solutions to create GeoPDF maps and for field use. Organizations such as the USGS have published extensive series of GeoPDF maps and imagery for responders involved in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill of Using TerraGo solutions, topographic GeoPDF maps are published by the USGS for state and local responders working on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. First responders and volunteers can use these maps to mark their observations as they are inspecting coastal areas.
