Study Abroad Hospitality Internship in Australia Southern Cross University is a vibrant, contemporary Australian university with campuses at the Gold Coast, Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Sydney. SCU understands the importance of integrating classroom study with practical experience and places a high value on the workplace component of a student s education. The success of these courses is built on the strong internship partnerships developed with industry over the last 20 years. The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program is instrumental in a very high graduate employability rate with 97 per cent of internship organisations expressing their willingness to offer graduates ongoing employment*. The major component of the WIL program is an industry internship. Students undertaking an internship complete a minimum of 450 hours during a 14-week placement with a tourism/ hospitality organisation. Additionally, authentic and individually tailored assessments provide students with an opportunity to apply concepts and principles of business management to a workplace setting in the tourism/ hospitality industry. *School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Work Integrated Learning Office Supervisor Evaluation Analysis (2011). SCU s Study Abroad Hospitality Internship program consists of two components: One week orientation, Gold Coast Interactive and experiential sessions regarding: Professional practice The Australian tourism and hospitality industry Intercultural communication Career development Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Certificate Industry field trip to Byron Bay Social activities 14-week internship placement Paid internship position at a tourism/hospitality organisation in a premier tourism location (such as Uluru, Kakadu National Park or the Great Barrier Reef) Onsite staff accommodation (additional cost) Advice, academic supervision and mentoring by our award winning WIL team^ Ongoing support and feedback on career development Access to CareerHub, the University s employment and career information website ^SCU s Tourism WIL Team won an Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning (2011).

How to apply 1. Check with your home institution Contact your home institution and request approval to take part in the internship program at Southern Cross University and check to see whether you are eligible to receive credit for the internship. 2. Check the entry requirements Students must have successfully completed the first two years of a related tourism, hospitality or business program. Students may be required to provide proof of English language proficiency comparable to Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 5.5. Current resume.
