Installing the OKI MB4x1MFP Network Attached, in Windows 8 Preface Note: The following instruction may use screenshots of either the OKI MB471MFP and / or the OKI MB451MFP for illustration purposes. However, these instructions apply to the full OKI MB4x1MFP product line, as is listed below. We refer to the full line as the OKI MB4x1MFP, which encompasses the following models. OKI MB441 OKI MB451 OKI MB451w OKI MB461 OKI MB461+LP OKI MB471 OKI MB471w OKI MB491 OKI MB491+ OKI MB491+LP MPS4200mb MPS4700mb The Windows 8 operating systems, by design, have Class drivers built-in to the OS. This is Microsoft s method of reducing the footprint of the Windows 8 operating systems. Further, Windows 8 functionality is such that when a device is connected via Plug N Play, Windows 8 will automatically associate one of these built-in Class drivers with the connected device. In the case of the OKI MB4X1MFP device, Windows 8 will automatically associate and install the OKI PCL6 Class driver with the device. Below are instructions for installing either of the OKI MB4x1MFP devices, Network attached. Rev. 1.1 Page 1 of 9
Installing the OKI MB4x1MFP Network Attached, in Windows 8 From the Windows 8 Start Menu,... type "C" for Control Panel, Click "Devices and Printers" and in that dialog, Click "Add a printer" This will launch the Windows 8 Add Printer Wizard. The typical network discovery will return 2 selections for the OKI MB4x1MFP devices. One being the WSD ( Web Services for Devices ). The other is the standard TCP / IP selection. These are both highlighted in Figure 1. Figure 1 We recommend installing the OKI MB4x1MFP on the WSD Port, first. This will give the user... printing capability using the OKI PCL6 Class printer driver, and... WSD scanning capability, as well Once the OKI MB4x1MFP is installed on the WSD Port, we recommend that you immediately run the OKI software to install our custom drivers, on the standard TCP / IP port. This will give the user extended capability using either of our custom PCL, PS, FAX drivers, along with scanning capability, using our ActKey scanning utility. Rev. 1.1 Page 2 of 9
The steps to install Network attached, on the WSD port Referencing Figure 1 as a n example, highlight the driver name given for your printer for your printer. For example, highlight the selection similar to what is shown below. Printer Name OKI-MB4x1-xxxxxx Address http://172.31.19.93/wsd and click the Next button. Note: The "xxxxxx" and Address shown above will be unique MAC and IP addresses that will be specific for your device. The end result will be similar to what is seen in Figure 2. The steps to install Network attached, on the Standard TCP / IP port Next, we recommend installing our software on the Standard TCP/IP port using the DVD provided in the box with your OKI MB4x1MFP. Insert your DVD and click through to our installers selection menu, shown in Figure 3 Figure 3 Be sure to select for installation, the following components, as shown in Figure 3 the OKI MB4x1(PCL) driver, the OKI MB4x1(PS) driver, ( if available for your model ) the OKI MB4x1(FAX) driver, ( available for your model ) the Scanner Driver, and the ActKey scanning utility, as well. It should be noted that installing the OKI Actkey scanning utility... will provide Network Configuration of your OKI MB4x1MFP. The Network Configuration tool is installed along with the ActKey scanning utility. This tool automates the installation and setup of your OKI MB4x1MFP on your network. Rev. 1.1 Page 4 of 9
After selecting the components as in Figure 3, press the install button, highlighted in Figure 3. The following dialog will appear Figure 4 Wait for the dialog in Figure 5 to appear Figure 5 and press the "Network" button as highlighted above in Figure 5. Rev. 1.1 Page 5 of 9

Figure 8 The installer will then report the result of the installation as is seen in Figure 8. Figure 9 The end result should be something similar to what is seen in Figure 9. The OKI-MB4x1-xxxxxx is installed on the WSD port. This allows the capability of printing to the OKI MB4x51MFP using the OKI PCL6 Class driver. Also, you can use the WSD port for "Push and Pull Scanning". These are both described later. The OKI MB4x1MFP is also installed on the Standard TCP / IP port. This allows the capability of printing to the OKI MB4x1MFP using either the PCL, PS drivers along with FAX capability, using the FAX driver. Rev. 1.1 Page 7 of 9
"Pull Scanning" over the Network WSD Port "Pull Scanning" from the OKI MB4x1MFP to your Network PC, is accomplished as follows... Place the page(s) to be scanned in the OKI MB4x1MFP either on the flatbed glass for single-sided, single-page pages, or in the ADF for multiple pages. Set the OKI MB4x1MFP front panel for "Remote PC" and "WSD Scan". To do this... Press the "Scan" button. Press the "Down Arrow" button until "Remote PC" is displayed. Press the "OK" button Press the "Down Arrow" button until "WSD Scan" is displayed. Press the "OK" button. The front panel displays "Waiting for scanning from PC" At your Network PC, click the OKI MB4x1MFP icon that was created by the installation steps described above. Click "Start Scan" to display the Windows 8 New Scan utility. Be sure to set the correct scanning parameters in the Windows 8 New Scan utility. Rev. 1.1 Page 8 of 9
"Push Scanning" over the Network WSD Port installed "Push Scanning" from the OKI MB4x1MFP to your Local PC, is accomplished as follows... Place the page(s) to be scanned in the OKI MB4X1MFP either on the flatbed glass for single-sided, single-page jobs, or in the ADF for multiple page jobs. Press the "Scan" button. Press the "Down Arrow" button until "Local PC" is displayed. Press the "OK" button Press the OK button to Select A Connecting PC Press the "Down Arrow" until "From WSD Scan" is displayed. Press the "OK" button. Press the "Down Arrow" to select the "Scan To: "Your Local PC" is displayed. Press the OK button Press either the Mono or Color "Start" button. Depending on your setting for Scan to Local PC : / Select an Application :, the OKI MB4x1MFP will either scan to an application on the Local PC or scan to a Folder on the Local PC.
