Dear alumni, dear reader, It is my pleasure to present the Alumni Newsletter of September 2009. This Newsletter contains information about the activities of our alumni, their personal stories and some of the opportunities MSM Alumni Association is creating for them. We are also welcoming 135 new alumni, from over 30 nationalities. These new alumni graduated September 10th, from the MBA, EMBA, MSc and DBA Programs. The course targets NFP alumni from Southern Africa: Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia and South Africa. During the course appropriate accent will be given to the importance of developing effective marketing strategies, and the use of technology and the media in the marketing perspective. PAST EVENTS Refresher Course in South Africa The Refresher Course in High Performance Organizations developed by the Maastricht School of Management in cooperation with Elgin Learning Foundation, and sponsored by NUFFIC, was held in Capetown from August 21 to 30, 2009. In total 19 alumni from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa participated in this successful course. You may have heard about how good refresher courses or workshops are in your respective careers, but may not have experienced the impact of such courses organized by Maastricht School of Management! It s my pleasure to share with you my feelings about the refresher course on High Performance Organisations. In his speech, Dr. Abdelazim shared the challenges he faced while studying an MBA himself a few years ago, which of course was very recognizable for the graduates at the ceremony. He elaborated on his career, his achievements but also on the difficulties he had to overcome on his way to the top. Among the participants was Miss Gabriella Memberr, coordinator from the Abuja Chapter. This was the first time that representatives from both Chapters in Nigeria met. ABOUT OUR ALUMNI Alumnus as a Change Agent in Uganda Mr. John Maynard Waibale is an alumnus from Uganda who participated in the Executive Program Managerial Control and Management Information System 2006. He identifies himself as a change agent in the corrupted environment that has been arising and dominating the country, and particularly his organization URA, the government tax collecting body of Uganda. Opportunities to improve Mr. Gopi Nath Mainali has recently been appointed as the Division Chief in the Infrastructure and Environment National Planning Commission of Nepal. He is an alumnus from the Financial Management Executive Program 2006. This MSM alumnus is an example of how with personal effort and perseverance, it is possible to create challenging opportunities in a working environment. He is enthusiastic about the methods learned in the Program, and full of energy to use them back home in his organization: The Bethlehem University. With his colleague Minerva Hisnat, who also attended the course, Mr. Zoghbi is compiling an exhaustive list of all indoor and outdoor training methods, to which they were exposed during the three weeks Executive Program in Maastricht. COUNTRY CHAPTERS REGISTER NOW for Bangladesh Alumni Chapter Mr. Mohammad Raihan Sadaat is leading the initiative to open a new MSM Alumni Chapter in Bangladesh. The invitation was sent in August and many interested alumni already replied confirming their participation. We are looking forward to have more alumni registered and to prepare for the official meeting and opening event. REGISTER NOW for Armenia Alumni Chapter Ms Lilit Simonyan, alumna from Executive Program Strategic Management 2009, went back to her country with the firm idea to open an Armenian Chapter. We are looking forward to hear about the alumni from Armenia. REGISTER NOW for Tanzania Alumni Chapter Mr. Tobias Swai, alumnus from the Executive Program in Financial Management, is the Alumni Chapter Coordinator in Tanzania. Tanzania is one of the leading countries in accessing education at MSM and the Alumni Association is prepared to support any alumni activities that result in a more active and close Tanzanian alumni network. REGISTER NOW for Ghana Alumni Chapter Mr. Isaac Osei Akoto has been successfully coordinating the registration of the Alumni in Ghana and we hope to have an opening event soon. He is our Outreach MBA alumnus from MSM partner university Regent University College of Science & Technology (RUCST). The Alumni Office like to express once again our gratitude to Mr. Isaac Osei Akoto for taking this responsibility, and wish him good luck with the Chapter activities. REGISTER NOW for Pakistan Alumni Chapter Ms. Tehmina Aamer attended last June the Executive Program Management of Change in Organizations. Ms Aamer went back to Pakistan convinced that there should be an MSM Chapter in her Country. REGISTER NOW for Ethiopia Alumni Chapter Mr. Abiot Tesseme MBA alumnus and Coordinator of the Chapter in Ethiopia is following the number of registrations and planning a strategy to present in the first meeting. There are many alumni registered and we expect more interested alumni to organize the first meeting soon.
