Network Setup Instructions This document provides technical details for setting up the Elite Salon & Spa Management program in a network environment. If you have any questions, please contact our Technical Support Department at 1-800-662-3548 (Option 3). All Network Preparation Overview pre-requisites previously provided by our Sales Representative must be completed prior to the network appointment with Elite Software. It is highly recommended that you employ the services of a qualified computer technician to assist you on-site with the configuration of the Elite programs detailed in this document. Additionally, your technician should verify the following tasks have been completed prior to your network appointment. Networking Tasks: 1. Verify that any 32-bit version of Windows 2000 Professional or greater is setup on the administrative and/or workstation computers. (NOTE: XP Home on the administrative computer does not function with any Vista workstations). 2. Verify that the latest release of the Elite Salon & Spa Management program is installed on all computers. 3. Ensure a TCP/IP hardwired network exists, with special permissions already configured to allow FULL data access to the administrative computer s shared ELITEWIN folder from all workstation computers. 4. Have a list of all Windows administrative user accounts and passwords on administrative and workstation computers available. 5. Have a list of all firewalls and anti-virus programs installed on administrative and workstation computers available. 6. Install the Vista Software Tool Kit on all computers on the network running any version of the Windows Vista operating system. Please contact the Customer Service department at 1-800-662-3548 (Option 4) regarding obtaining this tool kit for no additional cost. Administrative Computer Configuration Modify the security device: 1. Once the Elite Salon & Spa Management program is installed on the administrative computer it will have to be configured to allow connections from the remote workstation computers. To do this it is necessary to update the security device. This is done by entering a series of security codes to reflect the license changes for network capability. This process will require speaking with an Elite Software Technical Support Representative over the telephone as the changes are made. 2. When you are ready, close all programs that are open and start the Elite License Manager. Click on the following: Start Menu All Programs Elite Utilities Menu Elite License Manager When the Elite License Manager opens, select My license information has changed, and I need to update my security device to reflect these changes and click on Next. You will then be prompted to verify that the security device is attached to this computer and click Next to continue, click Next to proceed. 3. You will then be provided with a Session ID and prompted for a Security Code. The Elite Software Technical Support Representative will provide this Security Code once the Session ID is obtained. Enter the provided Security Code and click Upgrade to make the changes to the security device. You will then be provided with a confirmation code to read back to the Elite Software Technical Support Representative. Once you confirm the security device modification is compete, you may exit this screen by clicking exit. Note: If your technician wishes to complete the network setup without the assistance of Elite Software s Technical Support Department, the security device can be modified without a network appointment. Please have an employee with administrative privileges at your location contact our Technical Support Department at 1-800-662-3548 (Option 3). Page 2 of 7 Rev. 04/08
Configure the Elite Network Administrator : 1. Click on the following: Start Menu All Programs Elite Utilities Menu Elite Tech Support Tools 2. Once Elite Tech Support Tools is open, proceed with the following: Double click #15 (Network: Create ELITEWIN Network Share) Click Yes, then any key to continue. Double click on #16 (Network: Set UNC path for Network Administrator) Click Yes, Yes. 3. If the Elite Network Administrator is closed, it will close any open connection to the Elite Salon & Spa Management program, so it is strongly suggested at this point to minimize the Elite Network Administrator. It will minimize to the system tray. Note: Elite Software recommends that you create a shortcut on your desktop of the Network Administrator program. This program is required to run at all times in order for the Elite Salon & Spa Management program to run properly on the network environment. Note: 4. Elite Tech Support Tools should still be open. Select #9 (DCOM Registry settings (Windows XP-SP2)), regardless of the operating system. Enter the access code: EL63. This will adjust the DCOM settings, and create firewall exceptions for the Windows firewall. The DCOM settings are required no matter which version of Windows is being used on the main computer. If you are using Windows XP SP2 then the firewall exceptions will also be created. Otherwise, please note the Manual Firewall Exception List section at the end of this document. Other versions of Windows such as 2003 or Vista may require additional steps. Please visit our web site for details. Once this process is completed, the main computer can then be treated as a workstation for the rest of the setup. Please keep in mind that the administrative computer must be running at all times for the Elite Salon & Spa Management program to function properly on all computers. It is strongly suggested that you implement the following preventative maintenance tasks to maximize your network s performance: o o Make sure all computers and router are connected to a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply, Battery Backup). Perform regular backups of the Elite Salon & Spa Management data, rotate backup media and test your backups. Page 4 of 7 Rev. 04/08
