SPANISH COURSE FOR FOREIGNERS - BASIC 2 I. COURSE DESCRIPTION The main objective of the course "Spanish for Foreigners," Basic Level 1, is to develop in its participants those basic communication skills needed to cope effectively with simple everyday situations, both orally and in written form. To this end, the course is designed to get the participants engaged in the use of Spanish in each of the communicative skills: listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. The course provides attendants with the necessary groundwork for the development of those communicative skills in a holistic manner, emphasizing not only language development, but sociolinguistic and pragmatic skills as well. As part of the language skills the course especially develops grammatical, phonological, lexical and semantic competences. It also provides an overview of society and Peruvian and Latin American culture. II. SKILLS Upon completing the course, the students will have developed their communication skills in Spanish at a basic level of proficiency, especially those language abilities required in a social and a university context. The course is carefully graded to uphold the equivalent to level A1 of the Common European Framework of reference for the teaching of Spanish. According to that document, the students who attain the level A1 use simple sentences correctly, can make themselves understood with short phrases, can introduce themselves and others, can give personal information and inform about people they know. III. CAPABILITIES 1.Talks fluently and accurately proper for a basic level of expression, describing the place where he/she lives and the people he/she knows and interacting with another person who employs commonly used phrases and simple questions. 2. Writes short, simple postcard greetings, can fill in forms with personal details and the registration of a hotel. 3. Achieves a basic theoretical and practical knowledge of the Spanish phonological system. 4. Implements reading comprehension techniques aimed at obtaining general ideas of words, names and simple phrases in familiar situations. 5. Increases his/her vocabulary through reading, dialogue, and pictograms. IV. CONTENTS Conceptual content

To talk using the grammatical structures and vocabulary learned in simple presentations and discussions held in class. 2. To write simple sentences and paragraphs in an organized and coherent manner. 3. To develop the ability to edit their own written production both grammatically and for spelling and punctuation. 4. To use the correct rhythm and intonation patterns to express themselves in Spanish. 5. To get a pronunciation as closely as possible to the model native Hispanic consonants and vowels. Attitudinal contents 1. The development of personal self-confidence to perform smoothly and correctly through the systematic study of Spanish achieved during the course. 2. The appreciation of the richness of the Spanish language to express and share knowledge, occurrences and experiences that will enable the student to achieve a closer knowledge of the Hispanic culture. TEACHING STRATEGY In each of the sessions the communicative method will be used. It is characterized by the following:
In each session, students are informed of the objectives to be achieved and what is expected of them in terms of grammatical competence, communication skills and vocabulary acquisition. The class session is completely focused on the student, who is the protagonist of his/her learning by interacting with his/her peers and in groups, and guided at all times by the teacher. Develops reading and conversational topics in line with the interests and student learning needs through the use of supplementary materials. Thus, the course will cover topics of interest to participants in order to bring about learning the language that has immediate application in their studies and activities. Provides the participants with numerous opportunities to practice Spanish in real life situations which offer concrete and practical application of learning. Makes a continuous recycling of previously purchased content, providing the student continuing consolidation activities. Provides constant phonetic training to students. Promotes an atmosphere that facilitates the wellbeing of the participant making him feel at ease, confident and valued by the teacher. Based on lesson plans designed to develop a variety of activities that do not exceed 10' in length each. The teacher makes continuous use of teaching techniques and strategies to facilitate language learning by students. Thus, the instructor resorts to the development of concept maps, semantic maps, outlines of grammar rules, computer graphics, etc., in order to facilitate the internalization of grammatical content and acquisition of new vocabulary.
