Satellite-based Asset Tracking and Monitoring Solutions Corry Brennan
How Satellite Communications Optimise the Intermodal Supply Chain 1. The Remote Simplex Telemetry System is a very low cost, very low data rate (100 bps) Simplex Appliqué on the existing Globalstar infrastructure 2. Data is sent in the form of a fixed length packet with longer messages constructed from multiple packets 3. Globalstar Devices contain a built-in motion sensor 4. Globalstar Devices and Chipsets enable square geofencing in anti-theft mode 5. Fixed length packets are all 9 bytes (Where are you and what are you doing?) 6. Message sizes can be anywhere from 9 to 144 bytes in length
The Globalstar Simplex Data Network How our Technology Works: 1. Device Receives GPS Coordinates from GPS Constellation 2. Device then Transmits the information 3 times (2 redundant messages) to the Globalstar Simplex Data Network 3. The Globalstar Constellation then sends that information to Ground Stations that are located around the World 4. Ground Stations Process the information and only send the first message it receives 5. The Message is then sent over the Internet to a Globalstar VAR who will then customize a back-end application which will allow the enduser to receive desired information

SmartOne Asset Ready Device Physical Appearance On/Off Serial Cover Serial Input Battery Cover (4 Lithium Double-A Batteries) Mounting Bracket Modes of Operation Asset Management Reduced Messaging Theft Recovery Input Settings Engine Runtimes/Events Door Alarm Cable Bare wire Cable (Allows you to connect additional Open/Closed Alarms) Messages Reviewed Standard Messages High Priority Messages Replace Battery Messages Accumulate Messages Mountability 6
Modes of Operation 7
Standard Messaging This Mode is for Simple Asset Management Example: A Company is required by law to report the GPS Locations of Specific Hazardous Chemical Containers twice a day You can set specific times of the day that you want to receive a message or you can select an interval (Ex: every 12 hours) 8
Standard Messaging Input Settings Alarm inputs 2 alarm inputs can be supported by connecting directly through a serial input to report on events Magnetic Door Sensor as well as a Bare Wire Cable is available Inputs can also be used to count events and accumulate hours Accumulate/Count messages can be sent at a desired interval or when a specified amount of accumulation is reached (e.g. Bulldozer may require a scheduled maintenance every 250 hours of operation) Internal Vibration Sensor allows the SmartOne to accumulate hours of operation without external wires 9
Anti-Theft / Change of Location Square-Geofence setting capability, allows monitoring of assets inside a pre-defined area Can be set to ignore all movement whilst inside the area Unit will enter Recovery Mode when moved outside the area, will report at pre-configured intervals Unit will periodically check GPS co-ordinates whilst inside the area to verify position without sending a message. Turn off power to allow all movement whilst in Theft/Recovery Mode Can interact with VAR server settings to introduce multiple, complex geo-fencing
Built In Motion Sensor Can be programmed to report on position/events with or without motion sensor Varying degrees of sensitivity to detect motion Programmable to report on motion at different time intervals or immediately Programmable to check and verify position (GPS) without sending a report (inside pre-defined area)
The STX3 Integrator Chipset Worlds smallest and lowest power consuming industrial-use satellite transmitter For use by product developers and Integrators Part of all Simplex products Lowest cost method for collecting data over any satellite network Surface mount design Low current/long battery Low cost
The STX3 Integrator Chipset All devices constructed using the STX-3 Chipset must be certified by Globalstar before commercial release. A relatively new product, 2 devices already in play and 7 more in development in EMEA A surface mount module designed to attach to a user defined host PCB PCB must provide power, an RF connection to the transmit antenna, and communications with a host processor which will control the operation of the STX3 Electrical connections are provided via castellated pads on the perimeter of the PCB
