A Fresh Approach to Sharing Your Faith Mike Murphy Philanthropy Officer Elizabeth Murphy Author, Speaker, Blogger Workshops Core Do you struggle with ways to genuinely connect with people in hopes of sharing your faith with them? If so, this practical workshop is for you. We will identify different styles of evangelism, unpack the whole gospel in a new and different way and through story based examples learn what it looks like to live your faith and then earn the right to tell about it. 2. Developing Life Groups That Multiply at Every Level: Disciples, Leaders, and Groups Keith Steiner Pastor of Community Life Groups What does your group do from week-to-week that helps to make disciples, develop apprentice leaders, and launch a new group? In this workshop, we will examine the multiplying vision and see what can be done to foster this kind of growth. 3. Effectively Using The Bible Discovery Method in Your Group Dave H. Global Partner The Bible Discovery Method is a great tool to help people discover God for themselves. The idea is that you do inductive Bible study by reading the text, repeating the text in your own words and talk about what you have learned from the text? This method can encourage people to be obedient to God s Word and share it with others. 4. How To Care For Others in The Up s And Down s of Life Lori Fairbairn Marriage Care Director The Apostle Peter tells us as leaders to shepherd the flock of God under your care. So just how do we do that? In this workshop, we will examine and practice some of the core components of demonstrating care: active compassion, listening skills, encouragement, gentle questions, and prayer to help give you more tools to shepherd those you serve. 5. New Coaches Workshop Roberta Julke Operations Director Adult Discipleship Hub This practical workshop is for all new life group leader coaches and those interested in learning how to be a coach. Strengthening Your Biblical and Theological Foundations Tom Tunnicliff Pastor of Education and Leadership Development: Study Center Director Krista Heinen - Family Ministry Director What is the foundation your faith rests upon? What is the difference between Bible Study and Theology? In this class we will look at the big picture of who God is, who we are, and what His plans for us are; and how the Bible, Theology, and church history weave together to influence our priorities, our values, and how we do church. 8. Understanding God s Master Plan to Make Disciples Steve Sonderman Adult Hub Lead Pastor When Jesus called his twelve disciples, he knew exactly what he was doing. He was planning a revolution! In this workshop, together we will look at those blueprints to see how we can be an extension of the very same plan. Elective 9. Discipling Teens with the Heart of a Shepherd Josh Mings NexGen Pastor What are the secret ingredients to help teens deepen their faith, a faith that endures? It s no secret but it does take Life Group leaders who have the heart of a shepherd. In this workshop, we will look at ways we can develop those key qualities that Jesus so often displayed to those around him. 10. Welcoming The Stranger Jason Knapp Pastor of Missions Have you ever felt out of place, new to the neighborhood or just an outsider? This hands-on workshop is designed to help us discover God s heart for Immigrants and how we can be the hands and feet of Jesus reaching out to those around us with the love of Christ. Page 3
Mike & Elizabeth Murphy A Fresh Approach to Sharing Your Faith Mike Murphy Philanthropy Officer Elizabeth Murphy Author, Speaker, Blogger Speakers Bios Mike spent 18 years in the corporate world, 14 years as a pastor on staff at Elmbrook Church and is currently working as the Vice President of the Kaztex Foundation. Elizabeth is an author, speaker and blogger. They have moved several times in their 30 years of marriage which has given them many opportunities to share their faith with those around them. They have learned the value of living faith as a path to talking about it and welcome the chance to help others learn to do the same. Their family includes four, nearly grown sons, one lovely daughter-in-law and twin granddaughters due this fall. Keith Steiner Developing Life Groups That Multiply at Every Level: Disciples, Leaders, and Groups Pastor of Community Life Groups Keith has been overseeing small group ministry for about 10 years and joined the Elmbrook Staff in 2014 to give leadership to Life Groups that meet in communities throughout the greater Milwaukee area. He is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and enjoys running 1/2 marathons, family activities around town, and a good cup of coffee with a good book. Keith is married to Lynsey and they have three children ages 10, 6 and 2. He has a passion for people in Life Groups to vibrantly grow in their Christian faith, and live as a compelling community to the world around them. Dave H Effectively Using The Bible Discovery Method In Your Group Global Partner Dave has worked internationally for over 20 years in Indonesia and Singapore. His focus has been planting and multiplying churches within unreached people groups. He and his wife, Rebecca, have four children ranging in age from 12 to 21. He holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati and Trinity International University. Lori Fairbairn How to Care For Others in The Up s and Down s of Life Marriage Care Director Lori is the Director of Marriage Care at Elmbrook Church. She enjoys investing in relationships as well as gardening, reading, biking. After several significant career path changes, she identifies how God clearly orchestrates details of life and delights in helping others identify God s calling for them. Lori has been married to Scott for six years and has a blended family with three children in college. Page 4
Roberta Julke New Coaches Workshop Operations Director Adult Discipleship Hub Roberta has been a member of Elmbrook Church since 1992 and 10 years later joined the staff in the area of administration and operations. Over the years, Roberta has served as a Coordinator for women s events and as a Life Group Leader in various ministries but her heartbeat is for Coaching and mentoring young leaders Nancy Brusko New Leader Workshop Director of Life Groups on Campus In college, Nancy served on the Leadership Team for Inter-Varsity Christian. Two impactful experiences during that time were attending a six-week School of Discipleship Training in upper Michigan and the URBANA Conference. Nancy has been serving at Elmbrook Church for over 30 years as a Life Group Leader and Coach. In 2007 Nancy joined the Elmbrook staff overseeing Life Groups for Women. Her current position is Director of Life Groups, On-Campus. She is passionate about sharing life stories and encouraging others to apply the Word of God in their daily lives. Nancy and her husband, Dave, have been married 38 years and have three adult children. Time with her family cooking together, laughing and having good conversations are some of the ways she enjoys her off time Tom Tunnicliff Strengthening Your Biblical and Theological Foundations Pastor of Education and Leadership Development; Study Center Director Tom Tunnicliff is pastor of Education and Leadership Development at Elmbrook Church. He also serves as the director of the Study Center/Trinity Milwaukee Campus. Tom has broad experience in many areas including work as an architect, and varying pastoral and academic roles. He received his Masters of Divinity from Western Seminary, a Doctor of Education from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelors of Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He has a passion for discipleship, spiritual growth, and equipping the next generation of leaders for the Church. Tom and his wife Kirsten live in Waukesha with their three children ages 19, 16, and 14. Krista Heinen Strengthening Your Biblical and Theological Foundations Family Ministry Director Krista Heinen is the Family Ministry Director at Elmbrook Church. She enjoys equipping and supporting families in the community through conversations, resources and events. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Divinity from Bethel Seminary, MN. Her love for the Bible and passion for teaching have drawn her towards many new opportunities to share what she has been learning in her studies. Page 5
Steve Sonderman Understanding God s Master Plant to Make Disciples Adult Hub Lead Pastor Steve Sonderman has led the Men s Ministry at Elmbrook Church since 1992. He is passionate about helping every local church have a dynamic ministry to men, and consults internationally in developing local men s ministries. Steve is the author of How to Build a Life-Changing Men s Ministry and Mobilizing Men One-on-One for Ministry. He is also a primary author of the disciple-making initiative and small group study No Regrets. Steve holds a B.S. from UW-Milwaukee and an M.Div. from Bethel Seminary. He is married to Colleen; they have four adult children and one grandchild. Josh Mings Discipling Teens With The Heart of a Shepherd NexGen Pastor Josh joined the Elmbrook staff earlier this spring as the NexGen Pastor, a ministry that serves children and their families from birth to 12th grade. Prior to Elmbrook, he was a Teaching Pastor at a church in the Oklahoma City area. Josh holds an Undergraduate degree in Christian Education, a Masters of Arts in Bible & Theology and a Master s of Divinity. He has a passion for follower of Christ reaching their God-given potential and dreams for the sake of Christ. Josh and his wife Abbey live in Waukesha and have two children, ages 8 and 2. Jason Knapp Welcoming The Stranger Pastor of Missions As Pastor of Missions, Jason Knapp is involved in many endeavors. He works with James Place Ministry, leads in the area of ministering to immigrants, and encourages Elmbrook families to become involved in foster care and adoption. His goal is to encourage and challenge Christian brothers and sisters to view and use their immediate location and vocation as their mission field. He s an active mountain biker, loves canoeing, and builds furniture in his spare time (when he has any). He is married to Kellie and has three children, as well as one foster care child. Page 6
