You can also use SMART Board software Floating Tools to write with digital ink on the interactive product and save what you write. IMPORTANT The interactive product can t share its desktop on your laptop. Use Bridgit conferencing software if you want to create a more interactive environment between connected computers. Displaying Graphics in Your Presentation Because your desktop is transmitted over a network connection, the graphics files that you share between your laptop computer and the interactive product may not immediately display on the interactive screen. File size, network speed, screen resolution and color quality settings can slow down the speed at which graphics are transmitted from your laptop to the interactive screen. To improve the speed, lower your laptop s screen resolution. If your shared desktop and the Mobile Device Manager window on the interactive product aren t the same size, or if your shared desktop doesn t display correctly, set the Mobile Device Manager or LinQ software to Fit to Window mode to coordinate the resolution settings between the interactive product and your laptop (see page 26). Presenting from Your Laptop If you sit at your laptop when presenting, your audience can follow your presentation on the interactive product. If you move your laptop s mouse, for example, your audience will see your pointer moving across the interactive screen. Presenting from the Interactive Product When you move your finger on the interactive screen, you also move the pointer on your laptop, and when you write digital ink notes on your shared desktop, these notes appear on your laptop. You can also use the interactive product s mouse and keyboard to interact with your desktop. When you use the interactive product to present your files, you can also access programs installed on the interactive product, including SMART Board software. NOTE: Before you can access programs installed on the interactive product, you must first set your shared desktop to View Windowed or Show Windowed mode (see page 24). Writing and Highlighting Your Presentation with Digital Ink You can write in digital ink on a SMART Board interactive whiteboard with one of four pen tray pens, and you can write in digital ink on a Sympodium interactive pen display using its tethered pen after you select one of its colored ink buttons. Saving Your Digital Ink Notes If you create your presentation file in an Ink Aware program such as Notebook software or Microsoft PowerPoint software, digital ink notes that you make on the interactive screen automatically appear in the Ink Aware program on your laptop. You must install SMART Board software 9.7 on your laptop before you can save your notes directly in the Ink Aware program. If SMART Board software 9.7 is not installed on your laptop and you want to save your digital ink notes, use SMART Board software Floating Tools (capture tools) to take screen captures of your notes and save these screen captures to a file format that your laptop supports, such as Microsoft Paint software. After you save your screen captures on the interactive product, you must find a way to transfer them from the interactive product to your laptop, because the interactive product can t share its desktop on your laptop. You can, for example, copy your saved screen captures to a USB storage device and later transfer them to your laptop, or you can use a webmail application to e-mail your screen captures to yourself. 30 Interacting with Your Presentation File

Troubleshooting You re Unable to Connect to the Interactive Product Look for the Mobile Device Manager - Sharing request dialog box on the interactive product. Press Yes to view your desktop on the interactive product. Verify that you have started the Mobile Device Manager on the interactive product (see page 2), and then press the Refresh Product Names button in your laptop s Connect dialog box to reload the list of networked SMART products. Verify that LinQ software version 1.2 is installed on your laptop and that SMART Board software 9.7 is installed on the interactive product. To find the version of LinQ software installed on your laptop, open the LinQ Software dialog box, select Help > About, and then click the Technical Support tab. To find the version of SMART Board software installed on the interactive product, open the SMART Board software control panel on the interactive product and press SMART Board Settings. Verify that no more than five laptops are connected to the interactive product. Try connecting using the interactive product s IP address instead of its name (see page 19). Verify that your laptop s firewall settings are configured correctly. If you re working on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer with the default firewall settings enabled, SMART product names don t appear in the Connect dialog box. Verify that you have logged on to your laptop computer using an account with administrator privileges. You won t be able to use all of LinQ software s features if you don t have administrator privileges on your laptop. If you re working on a wireless network, verify that your laptop computer is connected to the strongest available access point. Wireless connections may automatically connect you to the most recently used access point instead of the strongest connection.

The Interactive Product Isn t Listed in the Connect Dialog Box Check that the interactive product is connected to a network. Verify that your laptop is connected to the same network as the interactive product. Verify that the SMART Board icon appears in the interactive product s notification area. If it s not there, install and start SMART Board software version 9.7 on the interactive product. NOTE: An X in the SMART Board icon in the notification area indicates that the interactive product isn t communicating with SMART Board software. To resolve this issue, open the SMART Board software control panel on the interactive product and press SMART Board Connection Wizard. Alternatively, see How To > Connect SMART Hardware in the SMART Board Help Center. Verify that your laptop s firewall settings are configured correctly. If you re working on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer with the default firewall settings enabled, SMART product names don t appear in the Connect dialog box. Verify that your network supports IP multicasting data transmission. If it doesn't support IP multicasting, you may not see SMART products listed in the Connect dialog box. Ask your system administrator to verify and configure the IP multicasting settings. Verify that your laptop and the interactive product are connected to the same network, and that there are no more than two routers or switches between their subnets. The Mobile Device Manager and LinQ software default to a multicasting TTL registry setting of 3, and they don t work on networks with more than two routers or switches. You can run regedit in the Windows Run dialog box to change the default registry settings: Mobile Device Manager: increase the MulticastTTL value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SMART Technologies Inc.\Mobile Device Manager\1.0. LinQ software: increase the MulticastTTL value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SMART Technologie Inc.\LinQ\1.0. You re Unable to Share Your Desktop Look for the Mobile Device Manager - Sharing request dialog box on the interactive product. Press Yes to view your desktop on the interactive product. Verify that you re connected to the correct interactive product. If you re connected to the wrong one, you may be sharing your desktop on another interactive product in another meeting room. 32 Troubleshooting
