Configure SPLM 2012 on Windows 7 Laptop 7/12/2012 SmartPlant License Manager (SPLM) requires a static IP Address on the license machine. To fulfill this requirement on laptops a virtual network adapter can be installed by using Microsoft Loopback Adapter. This document uses Windows 7 as an example, describes how to install and configure Microsoft Loopback Adapter, and how to set up license machine on Windows 7 standalone system like a laptop. It contains the following sections: 1) Install Microsoft Loopback Adapter on Windows 7 2) Configure a static IP address for the Loopback Adapter 3) Configure Advanced Settings for the Loopback Adapter 4) Install SPLM and Generate the Machine ID 5) Add pdlice.exe onto Firewall Exception List 6) Select License Server, Test Seat Reservation and Release 1

1. Install Microsoft Loopback Adapter 1) Log onto your laptop with a local Administrator account. 2) Click Start > Control Panel. 3) If you are in Category view, click Hardware and Sound > Device Manager; 4) If you are in the Small Icons view: click Device Manager. 5) In the Device Manager dialog window: Highlight Network Adapters (You can expend the list), Click Action on the menu bar, Select Add Legacy Hardware. 6) Add Hardware dialog box opens. Click Next. 7) Select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced). Click Next. 8) Select Network adapters in the list. Click Next. 2

9) Select Microsoft in the Manufacturer box, and Microsoft Loopback Adapter in the Add Hardware dialog box. Click Next. 10) Click Next again to install Microsoft Loopback Adapter; 11) Click Finish. 3

Configure a Static IP for Loopback Adapter 1) Log on to the laptop with a local administrator account. 2) Click Start > Control Panel 3) Double-click Network and Sharing Center (View by Small Icons) 4) Select Change Adapter Settings on the right 5) Right-click on the Loopback Adapter > rename it as SPLM Loopback Adapter. By default, the loopback adapter name is Local Area Connection #. 6) Right-click on the Loopback Adapter > select Properties 7) Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click Properties button. 8) Select Use the following IP address option, then manually type in an IP. For example, IP 192.168.0.1, with Subnet mask of 255.255.0.0. (Check with your IT department if you re not sure which address is available to assign to it) 9) Click on OK to dismiss the Internet Protocol TCP/IP Properties dialog. 10) Click on OK to dismiss the Loopback Adapter Properties. 4

3. Configure Advanced Settings for Loopback Adapter 1) Log into the laptop with a local administrator account. 2) Click Start > Control Panel > View by Small Icons.. 3) Click Folder Options > View tab > Turn on Always show menus option. Close Folder Options window. 4) Click Network and Sharing Center in Control Panel. 5) Select Change Adapter Settings on the right. 6) Select Advanced > Advanced Settings from the pull down menu 7) The Advanced Settings dialog box displays. 8) Under Adapters and Bindings, highlight SPLM Loopback Adapter and click the Green up arrow, moving it to the top of the list. 9) Click OK to dismiss the Advanced Settings Dialog. 10) Dismiss the Network Connections dialog. 11) Reboot the system to assure these changes are written to the registry before generating a machine ID using the SmartPlant License Manager utility. 5

4. Install SPLM and Generate a Machine ID 1) Log onto the laptop with a local administrator account. 2) Download the latest SPLM software from the ecustomer website https://crmweb.intergraph.com (Service > Download Software Updates > Products > SmartPlant License Manager) 3) Open Control Panel > View by Small Icons > click Device Manager > Open Network Adapters list. 4) Click View on the menu bar > click Show Hidden Devices. 5) Right-click on the adapters and disable ALL network adapters EXCPT the Microsoft Loopback Adapter in the list. 6) Select Start > All Programs > Intergraph SmartPlant License Manager > Generate Machine ID and save to a text file such as c:\machineid.txt. 7) Back to the Device Manager s dialog window, right-click and enable all the previously disabled network adapters. 8) Send the Machine ID file to your regional office or contact Intergraph elicense at PPMSERV@INTERGRAPH.COM to request a license key. NOTES: 1) If your Windows 7 machine has User Access Control turned on and you need to run pdlice commands in Command Prompt, then you must right-click on Command Prompt and open it with Run as administer option. Otherwise, the commands may result in errors. 2) If your laptop is configured as a license machine, and it has Embassy Trust Suite or Panda or MacAfee or Norton Antivirus software installed and you are getting SPLM failed: [reading socket] connection reset by peer message, you will need to uninstall the anti-virus software on your laptop. 3) If you have VM installed on your laptop, and you need to run your application from VM and pull license from your laptop, you need to add your laptop s node name as license machine in SPLM client inside VM.
