Introduction Microsoft SharePoint is a collaboration software application that lets you publish and share documents and other objects. This guide explains how to create a SharePoint website and deploy Veeam ONE reports to it so that you can share information about your VMware environment with others. This guide explains a straightforward procedure for creating and publishing to a SharePoint website. It is recommended that you follow Microsoft s guidelines and recommendations for setting up and managing the SharePoint application itself. Within SharePoint, there are many options for working with web pages. After setting up and verifying your Veeam reports, you are encouraged to try these options to further customize the appearance and functionality of your website. white paper / page 2
Before you begin To publish a report to a SharePoint website, you must first create a dashboard with one or more report widgets. For information on how to do this, see the Veeam Reporter User Guide or the Quick Start Guide: Veeam Reporter Dashboard. Below is an example of a Reporter dashboard with report widgets that can be integrated into a SharePoint website. The procedures described in this guide apply to both Reporter and Reporter Free Edition, and the SharePoint steps and screenshots correspond to the SharePoint Server 2010 user interface. Equivalent functionality can also be found in SharePoint Services 3.0. While reports created with either Reporter or Reporter Free Edition can be embedded into a SharePoint site, please be aware that only one report at a time may be saved with Reporter Free Edition. With the full version of Reporter (or the fully functioning 30-day free trial version), you can save multiple reports and create widgets for all the charts you want to share. white paper / page 3
Step 1: Create a SharePoint website Use your browser to access your SharePoint application and follow the steps below to create a website. Click Site Actions in the upper left corner of the Main page and select New Site. 2. In the Create window that displays next, select Blank & Custom within the All Categories group in the menu bar on the left. After selecting the Personalization Site option, specify a name and URL for your website in the Personalization Site fields on the right. Click Create to create your website. white paper / page 4
3. When your new website s Home page opens, modify the site theme, icon and other settings, as desired. Step 2: Create a web page After creating your website, you will set up one or more web pages with web parts for your report widgets. The web parts will be created as cells within a table that serves as the design template for the web page. To create a web page: 1. Select New Page from the Site Actions menu in the upper left corner of your website s home page. 2. Specify a name for the web page and click Create. white paper / page 5
Step 3: Create a web part After creating a web page, a blank page opens for you to create web parts. If desired, you can specify a page header to identify your web page. To create a web part: 1. Place the cursor where you want to create your design template table. 2. Click the Insert tab and then select Table and Insert Table to create your table. A 3x3 table works nicely for embedding up to 9 reports on a web page Tip: If you want to add more reports to your web page later, you can modify the design template table to add more cells. 3. Place your cursor in the cell where you d like to create a web part, click Editing Tools in the menu bar and then select Insert. 4. Select Media and Content from the Categories list and Page Viewer from the Web Parts list. 5. Click Add to create your web part. white paper / page 6
Step 4: Link a report to a web part After creating a web part, a new window opens for you to specify the content you want to make available in the web part. To share a report: 1. Click Open the tool panel to specify the URL for the report you want to embed in the web part. To obtain the URL for the report: a. Open a browser and navigate to your Veeam ONE report dashboard. Click Edit and then click the get URL link of the desired report widget. b. Click Copy to Clipboard (if your browser supports it) or simply copy the URL. 2. In the SharePoint web part setup interface, paste the URL for the report widget. 3. In the Page Viewer section, select to display your web part as a Web Page. 4. To customize the appearance of your report in the SharePoint web part, use the Appearance section of the Page Viewer pane to: a. Specify a Title. For the sake of clarity and consistency, it is suggested you specify the same title that is used in the report dashboard for the report widget. b. Adjust the height and width of your report. white paper / page 7
You can embed additional reports in your SharePoint website by returning to the design template table for your web page and repeating Steps 3 and 4 to create more web parts and add links for other reports. Step 5: Edit a web part You can update the appearance of a report at any time by selecting its web part and clicking Edit Web Part from the drop down. white paper / page 8
Step 6: Accessing your SharePoint website Your SharePoint website can be accessed either from the SharePoint application site where you created your website in Step 1 or directly through its own URL. Direct access through your website's URL is an effective way to publish your content to end users. white paper / page 9
To limit access to your website, edit your web page and update Target Audiences in the Advanced Settings section. white paper / page 10
Step 7 (optional): Enable drill-down reports You can publish drill-down reports (i.e. full reports) on your SharePoint website. Because many of these reports and graphs are built on large report formats, be careful you don t overwhelm your website with something that doesn t make sense to display there. To publish a drill-down report: 1. Open a browser and navigate to your Veeam ONE report dashboard. 2. Choose a report and open its Full Report by clicking on the report s name. 3. Just as you would do when embedding a report in any web part, paste the URL for the drill-down report in the link field for your web part. white paper / page 11
