Description During this Summer School, in the first part of the week the main principles of economic integration and regional development and drivers in the EU will be introduced; regional economic policies in the EU will then be progressively presented. The second part will illustrate how regions may steer their own economic destiny and enhance territorial cohesion by making use of the available resources and EU supportive actions. In the final part of the Summer School, the new perspectives of regional development and policy in the EU will be discussed and analysed. Learning methodology A variety of training methods will be used throughout the Summer School, such as lectures and presentations, workshops, case studies and interactive discussions. Specific material on topics will be provided for each participant (seminar kit) before the start of the Summer School, as well as web links to all of the documentation (Reader). Participants will be able to receive practical advice, exchange experiences and establish contacts for local and regional partnerships and strategies. The Summer School will offer participants a unique opportunity to network with peers with the same interests and from various nationalities, thus giving them the potential to identify new partners for future projects. Objectives Taking into account the current economic climate, the challenges it involves, the EU 2020 growth strategy and the impact of its implementation on regional policies, the Summer School aims to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of the regional and economic integration process in the EU, as well as a clear overview of the EU policy instruments in place to strengthen regional development. The principles of the complexity of the European economic integration system will be explained in an accessible way, thus allowing those not familiar with the topic to enhance their knowledge and knowhow.
