Conditions for application and participation of the International Music Competition 2011 Personal preconditions Musicians that are younger than 30 years by the September 22, 2011 are eligible to take part in the competition. Exceptions from this age barrier cannot be made. Pre-selection on YouTube The jury selects the participants by their uploaded, self-produced videos. The pieces must be chosen from the given list of repertoire and must be uploaded no later that June 15, 2011. Registration and registration fee After written confirmation for the first round of the competition the participant will receive a form via e-mail that has to be returned until July 31, 2011. By registration the participants accept the terms and conditions. In addition to the completed registration form the participants have to supply the following: Copy of a certificate of birth or valid ID Artistic curriculum vitae (including musical education, work as a musician, international awards) Two high-quality photos for the programme and/or for publishing in the media Confirmation of health insurance (has to be handed in at the start of the competition) Confirmation of the successful transfer of the registration fee (80 Euros) Bank transfer of registration fee Payable to: Landeskasse Düsseldorf Bank: West LB Düsseldorf Account: 96560 Sort code: 300 500 00 IBAN: DE34300500000000096560 BIC/Swift: WELADEDD Reason for transfer: 03036541/WETTB.2011 It is essential to enter the full reason for transfer! The registration fee will only be refunded if the competition is cancelled or the participant is not permitted to take part in the competition. Accreditation The final accreditation to the competition is decided by the president/artistic director according to the documents handed in by the participant. Only if all documents are handed in and the registration fee of 80 Euro has been paid, the participant can be accredited. The registration fee is not subject to reimbursement. Incomplete documents will be sent back. Implementing regulations The competition is organised by the in cooperation with the Westdeutscher Rundfunk (West-German broadcasting/wdr) and the Kölner Philharmonie. The competition includes one preliminary and three full rounds. The order of appearance will be drawn in public. The participants are bound by this running order, i.e. changes due to other obligations cannot be taken into account. Performance time will be communicated by bulletin. Participants failing the entry date or missing performances can be excluded from the competition according to the panel of experts decision. The performances are rated with points (1 to 25). Deleting the highest and the lowest rating calculates the arithmetic average result if it differs more than two points. Otherwise the total average is taken. The results are not published; only the names of the successful participants will be communicated. The finallists order of appearance is subject to change by panel s decision. The chosen participants oblige themselves to take part in the next round. In case of a justified hindrance the participant is obliged to give note early. All participants are obliged to take part at all rehearsals and concerts in conjunction with the competition. 36 participants per discipline will be accredited by the panel for the first round. For the second round up to 12 participants per discipline, for the final round three participants per discipline will be accredited. The performance of a participant can be terminated in case of time exceedance by the president of the panel. In case of demand by the panel the participants have to show the score of their repertoire. Attendance is compulsory for winners of the second and third prizes until the matinee concert on October 2, 2011. The jury The president selects the international jury. A member of the jury must not mark his or her own students. The same applies in case of family or job relations. Awards The jury selects the following laureates amongst the participants of the competition: First Prize: 10,000 Second Prize: 6,000 Third Prize: 3,000 The WDR Radio Orchestra donates an award in form of a production. Audience award: 1,500 Award for the best interpretation by an honorary member of the panel The Wieniawski s exceptional award is donated by the consulate general of the republic of Poland. The laureates (first prizes and special awards) will be presented to the public with a concert at the Kölner Philharmonie on October 1, 2011 where they will receive their certificates and prizes.

A matinée concert for second and third prizes takes place at the main concert auditorium of the on October 2, 2011. All participants of the second and third round will receive a certificate. If the candidates achievements do not meet the very high standards the panel can refrain from awarding the prize. The audience award, the orchestra award and the award for best interpretation will be donated in the final round. Repetitors The participants can be accompanied by a repetitor of their own choice at their own expense. Repetitors for participants without their own pianist will be allocated for performances and fixed rehearsal times in the first and second round by the host. This has to be indicated in the application form. The participant has to hand in the score for this repetitor on demand. Expenses The participant must pay for travel, accommodation, meals, insurances and expenses of every kind. Accommodation The with its branches Aachen and Wuppertal supports the participants in finding accommodation. It is also advisable to contact the tourist information offices at the respective branches: Cologne: www.koelntourismus.de Aachen: www.aachen.de Wuppertal: www.wuppertal.de Daily allowance From the first day of the second round participants of the second and the third round receive a daily allowance of 45 for the duration of their participation on the competition. Exception: Participants that live or study in the Cologne area are not applicable for a daily allowance. Miscellaneous The participants are obliged to perform free of charge during the competition including the prize winners concert in the Kölner Philharmonie. The programme for the prize winners concert in the Kölner Philharmonie is designed by the panel of experts and the artistic director. The participants agree upon the recording of the competition s rounds and the prize winners concert. The participants cannot claim any royalties from recording and publishing of the TV and radio broadcasts. This also applies to claims for royalties to the relevant TV and radio broadcasting companies. In connection with the competition the participants grant all rights of use of their work for all the types of use which are already known and become known in the future everywhere in the world and unlimited in terms of time. The use of the rights is not obligatory and the assignment of the rights to third parties is permitted. The participants agree upon their images, their age, their nationality and their artistic CV to be published in the media and in all publications of the competition without making further remuneration claims. They also agree upon the forwarding of their addresses to concert promoters on demand. The

president/artistic director is managing and organising the competition. The decisions of the president and the panel of experts are definitive. There is an exclusion of the jurisdiction to the court in all matters. In order to avoid misinterpretation of these rules in case of a doubt only the German version of this text is binding.
