We are a small media relations team which punches above its weight. We work across lots of different issues including education, social mobility, accountancy and tax issues and develop interesting newsworthy campaigns to reach our key audiences. We are looking for someone creative who can take an idea and make it happen. We want someone who is confident in developing high profile media campaigns both in-house and working with agencies. You will be working in a bigger PR team which looks after content strategy, editorial development, media relations and public affairs. Our team consists of committed communications professionals and we work in a supportive environment where good ideas are championed and professional development is encouraged. Major objectives To contribute to the achievement of AAT s business plan objectives and the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation by: The Media Relations Manager is responsible for delivering high quality media coverage across all platforms that is consistently aligned to AAT s strategic objectives and our Business Plan. There is a need to be both proactive in developing campaigns designed to increase awareness of AAT and the issues we represent, as well as being reactive by following the news agenda and responding swiftly to opportunities / announcements and positioning AAT as a credible spokesperson. The Media Relations Manager is expected to be familiar with working across all platforms and understand the importance of fully integrated campaigns designed to
engage effectively with stakeholders. This will involve developing relationships with the senior team within the business in order to gain an understanding of any current and upcoming issues, as well as an understanding of the wider environment we work in. The Media Relations Manager is also expected to interrogate research and data, understand latest trends, and monitor issues that affect our business to ensure our messages reach the right people at the right time. Responsibilities eveloping media relations campaigns Lead media campaigns through identifying opportunities, selecting and managing agencies, and managing resources effectively. nsure integration of campaigns so we maximise opportunity such as developing public affairs angles and/or harness social media. valuate campaigns, relating back to our overall business objectives and suggest ways to improve and make changes. Managing a press office Responsible for press handling and press engagement. Maintain awareness of key contacts and shares with team accordingly. evelop and manage a proactive media relations programme to ensure balanced, well-targeted coverage in the national, regional and specialist trade media. Identify and create news stories to be placed in external media through developing timely press releases, features, opinion pieces and build good relationships with journalists across all platforms. Harness opportunities to ensure we are engaging effectively with stakeholders. Monitor coverage of AAT and the news agenda on topics relating to our business and use this insight to recommend ways to improve overall effectiveness with media engagement. Increase awareness of AAT key spokespeople. Arrange interviews and provide media briefings. eal swiftly with breaking stories or media announcements in order to maximise coverage opportunities. Produce content of a consistent high standard suitable for all platforms (online and offline). Share news and suggest ideas for highlighting relevant content through social media. Team management Line manage the Assistant Media Relations Manager encouraging high standards of work. Work with the editorial, content and community managers to ensure activity is coordinated and highlighted through all AAT channels. Support editorial and content teams through writing blogs to be shared on AAT Comment. Work with team members to identify best practice and new opportunities. nsure information and PR activity is shared across all teams and the AAT organisation to maximise use of content and to keep colleagues and council informed of the team s campaigns. Consistently look for new and improved ways of doing things. Actively to learn from customer feedback, comments and suggestions, including complaints, to review and improve existing processes, and by doing so to anticipate other customers needs.
