FACULTY The success of any program depends greatly on the selection of the faculty. At IEDE Business School the students have the benefit of an international faculty with more than one hundred professors who encompass all the areas taught in the MBA. The professors are of various nationalities and have broad experience in the international professional environment and in senior management. Many of them are professionals with doctorate degrees who complement their vocation for management and economics with other research and academic work. The demanding requirements of the faculty in no way impede their approachability; students may consult them outside of lectures, a quality that reinforces the School s personal relationship with students. The lecturers transmit in a logical, systematic and practical way the knowledge and skills needed for success in the business environment. The attitude of the staff is demanding, which stimulates students' will to achieve greater goals. Accessibility of faculty (allowing students to consult them on matters beyond the classroom environment) reinforces the personalized relationship of the School with its students. All faculty members have distinguished track records as executives, entrepreneurs or consultants and complement their professional lives with teaching. METHOD The IEDE Business School teaching method is one of the greatest added values of the master's degree course, having been strengthened and enriched by more than 15 years of experience in management and specialized training. These methods are based on highly practical, result-oriented education in which renowned professionals in the sector transfer their knowledge of management skills to students through the proposal and resolution of real cases. With these methods, the student becomes the central figure in the learning process throughout the master's course, both in and outside the classroom. Practical case-by-case study brings into the classroom the managers' experience in different business situations. Students work in teams analyzing these real cases, under the constant guidance of professors and lecturers who monitor the discussions facilitating reflection and debate. This, in turn, favors the exchange of ideas, know-how and solutions. This method enables students to: Acquire the professional skills in highest demand within this sector Share their know-how and exchange opinions with their colleagues, enhancing their learning Develop their entrepreneurial spirit Our International MBA stresses two things to students: 'learning how to learn' (a basic skill in a society where change management is both an opportunity and a challenge) and that of turning experience into knowledge. We promote this learning by applying today's new business methods, using a combination of resources which leads to success. The master's course is structured so that in reaching the program objectives: students develop the personal and technical skills necessary for optimum management. The method s success lies in favouring personal contact and training between students and professors, given the limitation to enrolled students in classroom (average size of the group is 20), and in a rigorous initial student selection, both in the admission process and formation of workgroups. This is handled by both the Information and Admissions Department and the Academic Department, who look at an individual s academic and professional track record, plus their technical skills. Special emphasis is placed on one s emotional intelligence, drive to succeed, motivation, attitudes and perceptions of the world around them. This inverse learning process accelerates conceptual learning. Questions are lively and the level of interest in the class increases considerably. Group Work Groups are distributed into working rooms to analyze the case once again with the guidelines provided by the professor in the theory class. Now they will share their knowledge and experience, points of view and conclusions. The professor rotates among the groups, answering questions, providing methodological support and observing each group's diagnosis of the case, whether the problem has been identified correctly and whether or not the solutions are reasonable. In this phase, the members of each group must reach a consensus, since only unanimous proposals may be taken to the plenary debate. This approach forces students to learn to negotiate and unify proposals in order to reach a consensus. Plenary Debate In this third and final part of the session the professor uses questions to guide the discussion, focusing on the most essential aspects of the problem. The professor helps students to reach the conclusions that will become the learning objectives of the day. These conclusions show that oftentimes there is more than one solution to a business problem. This makes students feel that they have acquired the knowledge in a practical and applied way. During this final phase the students develop their ability to communicate concepts, as one or more representatives from the group present their conclusions to the rest of the class. The last phase is always an in-depth study phase, in which students establish a connection with and receive feedback from the teacher on more specific topics. The goal is to stimulate within students a continued interest in professional issues. Using a combination of various methods, the student is conscious at all times of his/her learning situation, progress, and areas needing more attention. STRUCTURE OF SESSIONS Each session has a different conceptual focus and is divided into three phases: Theory Class In this session the professor will present the material required and the key aspects of the case under an extremely practical and business oriented point of view. 6

EVALUATION Students face three evaluations similar to a job performance review. They are evaluated rigorously in each of the countries during each of the modules, plus in their quarterly work and Master's thesis. On-going Course Evaluation Through the active methods used in each of the sessions, the professor is able to evaluate each student's participation in an individualized manner. Each professor, regardless of where the training is offered, evaluates whether the student has worked on the necessary management skills to be become a competent professional. Indicators such as leadership, teamwork and goal motivation are examined. The methods used require students to maintain an attendance record of at least 90% in order to pass this first evaluation successfully. Attendance is a minimum requirement for passing the MBA evaluation, since it is an intensive professional training program where active student participation is mandatory. The International Master's Degree in Business Administration mirrors the real international business world, showing how to manage and work with teams, how to adapt to new environments, and how to deal with adversity. Teamwork enables students to develop leadership, negotiation, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, thus expanding their potential. Quarterly Work During the first two quarters the student must work in depth on two projects. Approximately one month before the quarterly exams, the student receives a practice case or field work project to be completed as a team. The different working groups will prepare a dossier to be evaluated in depth by a panel of experts and presented orally by the students before a Board of Examiners. This is the best way to progressively apply all of the knowledge acquired through the case studies. Master's Thesis The master's thesis is the culmination of an entrepreneurial project in line with international business, built from start to finish upon an original, socially useful and financially viable idea. During the presentation, the students also face the Challenger of being effective communicators, presenting and defending their project and answering the board's questions. The weight of this master s thesis on the student's final grade is 40%. INTERNSHIP To complete the program and reinforcing the fact that the Master is the real link between professional and graduate lifes, internships are offered to every student in order to have a first business experience. Internships are compulsory to every student not having the appropriate professional experience, and are offered in Madrid and California during or at the finalization of the Master. Internships in California are subject to an additional fee, not included in the basic price of the Master. SUPPORT STAFF The mission of the course directors, academic coordinators and academic assistants is to manage all the aspects that might influence a student s progress and to create a pleasant atmosphere that encourages learning. At IEDE Business School we show personal concern for our students in order to guarantee proper information flow and our students general well-being. QUALITY CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT IEDE Business School has a continuous Quality Improvement Plan for meeting the needs and expectations of the students and stakeholders. Students are required to write quarterly evaluations of the school, program contents and professors. These responses rate the school s performance in meeting its ambitious targets of excellence. Such evaluations enable us to discover whether, upon completion of the master degree, both the students' and our expectations were met and whether students are aware of the degree of skill they have acquired, in addition to cultural and attitudinal maturity. Throughout the academic course, students will receive specific Project Seminar sessions with continuous guidance from the faculty. To do so, they will be asked to divide spontaneously into teams. Under the advice of the professors and the guidance of a tutor, each group submits to the academic department an outline of the business idea they plan to develop as their thesis. The final phase in this master program is to give an oral defense of the business project. This is done through a videoconference before a management panel composed of experts in viability, risk and executive analysis. The videoconference is set up in Irvine, connecting with Spain so that the Spanish panel can evaluate the project for leadership and innovation. 7
