Key Points: Hilliard City Schools 8 th Grade students will have 4 CORE CLASSES (including: Math, Science, Language Arts & Social Studies) and 3 elective periods. Academic Course Placement Criteria Academic course placement criteria will be posted via the HCSD website on Monday, April 7 th. Students will be automatically placed in the qualifying academic courses according to the criteria guidelines set by the district Course Appeal Information Students wishing to appeal the district course placement must complete the Course Appeal Form that will be available on the district website. Please refer to the Appeal Guidelines as outlined on the website beginning March 12 th when considering an appeal and/or completing the Appeal Form. All appeals should be submitted to the Director of Secondary Education. The Director of Secondary Education may contact the parent/guardian on the nature of the request.

Intervention A number of intervention opportunities will be available for students based on OAA data, SMI/SRI Scores, and/or teacher recommendation. Some of these intervention options may include: Math Extensions Math 180 Reading / LA Extensions Literacy Explorations (LEAP 8) Please note, these interventions are not typically scheduled by students/parents, rather, they are selected for students based on the academic need. Students may be placed in/removed from the Extensions courses throughout the year based on their current academic progress and need.

Academy INC and Information & Communication Technology (ICT21) (On-line) Students attend the ILC for a 2 period block for one semester It is an Introductory course for students interested in a business pathway. Academy EDU and Personal Decisions (On-line) Students attend the ILC for a 2 period block for one semester This course that earns.5 elective HS credits This is an Introductory course for students who may be interested in the high school Teacher Academy Program or the teaching profession Enrollment is limited and will result in a lottery if capacity is exceeded
Project Rock and Media Explorations Students attend the ILC for a 2 period block for one semester This is an introductory course for students who maybe interested in the Academy VIBE Program in high school or want to learn more about the music industry. Students need to have singing experience and/or experience with a musical instrument such as a guitar, drums, piano, etc. Students interested will also need to complete a multi-step application process. Enrollment is limited and will result in a lottery if capacity is exceeded
To select 8 th grade elec ves for next year: 1. Parents or students can log on to Home Access Center between March 12 th & March 17th 2. Select enough elec ves to fill up three periods. Pick your top choices. 3. Click Save and you are done it s that easy!
Tell us which elec ves are most important to you: Due fluctua ng student demand or individual conflicts with academic/required courses, selec ng elec ves in Home Access Center doesn t always guarantee student placement into those courses. We try our best to make sure every student gets at least a few of their top elec ve choices. So tell us which classes you want the most!
