Your kit will contain an i>clicker base receiver, a blue faculty remote, an electrical cord, and a USB drive. We ll even supply a carrying case! Create Course 1. Open the i>clicker app 2. Create a course by clicking +Create 3. Name your course and click Create Settings: 1. Highlight your course and click Settings to configure and integrate with Blackboard. 2. General: Enter your blue remote ID to run sessions and slides from your remote. The instructor remote also includes a laser pointer (red button) 3. Toolbar: Decide whether to count up 1-2-3-4-5 etc. or down 5-4-3-2-1 during polling 4. Scoring: Decide now or later on your scoring scheme. Participation Points can be thought of as attendance. Performance points show how many students answered and/or got correct. The most popular choice currently is a point for responding and additional point if correct. NOTE: Participate and Performance can now be loaded into Blackboard as separate columns. Here s where it can get tricky setting up the connection to Blackboard 1

5. Gradebook: a. Click the Gradebook tab and Select a Course. NOTE: If you don t see this, you don t have all of the files that you need to connect to Blackboard. b. Login using your REDID and your i>clicker SSO Security Key. (SSO Key is located in any Blackboard course that you teach => Control Panel => Course Tools => i>clicker Instructor Tools => SSO Security Key. Copy and paste the security key) c. Check Save my Credentials and then Login. d. Click on your course from the list and press Select. NOTE: Only courses that you have Made Available to students will show up in the list! e. You will be notified that your roster will not appear until you sync your roster. Ignore for now and continue. f. Repeat for each course that uses clickers. 6. To sync your roster: a. Click Open Gradebook. b. Click Sync Roster. c. Names in blue have registered a clicker or REEF account. Names in red have not registered a clicker. Red numbers are clickers that have been used without registering to a student. 2

Running a Session At this point, you can run a session or download your roster. We cover downloading your roster further along in this document. Connect your equipment 1. Plug base receiver into podium USB and other end into base receiver 2. Plug your USB into the USB port on base receiver 3. Plug electrical cord into outlet if needed Start Session 1. Open your i>clicker software and turn on your remote (orange button) 2. Click the Start New Session button. (Start a new session before opening your Powerpoint, Keynote, Prezi slideshow.) 3. If you get a frequency conflict error, see the Appendix. You should change your frequency to keep your votes from bleeding into another session and vice versa. 4. The session polling toolbar will appear. You can use the session polling toolbar to run your polling session if you forget your faculty remote. Otherwise, use your remote to advance slides, open/close polling, show/hide results, etc. Start Polling 1. Press A to start and stop polling. 2. Press B to show and then hide the results chart (how students voted) 3. Use Next and Prev to advance slides Designate Correct Answers in Class: While you have the Results Chart open in class, press E to cycle through the answers in the results chart. Leave one answer green which indicates that is the correct answer. You can also use the Answer button on the results chart and select from the drop down menu. You can change this later or add additional points for other choices in the i>clicker Gradebook. 3

Scoring After Class If you didn t designate correct answers during the polling session, you can do it later. You can also Sync your Roster, Export an Excel spreadsheet, run Reports, and Sync Scores to Blackboard using Gradebook. 1. Open your i>clicker software 2. Click Open Gradebook 3. Click View at the top of your session to view student scores. A red Ab means absent. Every time you started a new polling question, i>clicker took a screenshot. These are all displayed to help you score. Just click the checkbox next to the correct answer. NOTE: If you need to add points to other answers, double click on top of the 0.00 and type the desired points and then press return or enter on your keyboard. Sync Scores to Blackboard We recommend you first sync your roster before you sync scores in case any registration changes have occurred including the use of a new clicker in your class. 4

To sync your roster: 1. Click Open Gradebook. 2. Click Sync Roster. To sync your scores to Blackboard: 1. Open i>clicker 2. Open Gradebook 3. Click Sync Scores 4. Choose the session(s) you want to upload and click Next You are then presented with multiple choices for upload. The most popular is to upload each session total as a separate entry. You can then create a calculated total column in Blackboard to track the total. Gradebook Options Sync Roster: You can conduct polling sessions without sync ing your roster. Student scores will be saved. They will not be associated with a student for grades until you sync your roster. If you have not already retrieved and saved your SSO Security Key, you will need to do so in order to sync. (Control Panel => Course Tools => i>clicker Instructor Tools => SSO Security Key. Copy and paste the security key into i>clicker login window.) Make sure to click save so you only do this once. To sync your roster: 1. Click Open Gradebook. 2. Click Sync Roster. 3. Names in blue have registered a clicker or REEF account. Names in red have not registered a clicker. Red numbers are clickers that have been used without registering to a student. Sync your roster frequently during the drop/add period and before you upload grades (Sync Scores). Sync Scores (upload grades.) 1. Click Open Gradebook 2. Click View on the column you want to upload to double-check scoring, delete questions, etc. 3. Click Summary if you d like to change the column name in Blackboard to something more useful such as date you conducted the session not the session number. 4. Click Sync Scores when you are ready to upload. 5. Choose session you want to upload and click Next. 6. Choose what you want loaded into Blackboard (separate columns, aggregated total, etc.) 7. Click Upload. Reports: Reports are now generated as.csv files which can be opened in Excel. The scoring report shows each question in a separate worksheet and how each student answered. Export: Export creates an excel spreadsheet of the grades but does nothing else! 5

Setting up REEF REEF allows Students to use their laptop or smartphone with the REEF app to respond to polls in your class. REEF uses the Internet to communicate with the i>clicker software so wi-fi stability is required! 1. Open i>clicker app and click Settings 2. Select the REEF tab in the Course Settings window. 3. Select the Enable REEF Polling button. 4. Create a REEF instructor account. (Or, log in if you already have an account.) Create a password that you will remember as you may need to login next semester or some other time. You will need your email address and password to access and edit your REEF account. 6

5. Complete the REEF set up process by entering your course details. Only the top part is REQUIRED. Institution = San Diego State University The course name you enter here is the course name students will see when finding your course using REEF Polling. Set the option to determine when your students will see a screen capture. By default, screen captures of your desktop are NOT sent to students. You can choose to allow screen shots to students when polling starts or when polling ends. These settings affect the entire course (rather than a particular question or session). Click Save When you return to the i>clicker app, the REEF Polling enabled button should be green Change Frequency If a frequency error message appears or a student comes in and can t use their clicker because they are getting the No Base icon: a. Press and hold the orange button until the screen display blinks b. Enter the correct frequency usually AA. c. You will see a checkmark if this is correct. To change the base receiver: a. Open the i>clicker software b. Go to Settings c. Click the General tab d. Select a new frequency using the radio buttons (Ex: AB, BB, CA, ) 7
