In an effort to make achieving LEED certification more accessible to projects worldwide, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has developed a series of Alternative Compliance Paths (ACPs) for projects outside of the U.S. These ACPs have been developed with guidance from international green building experts and volunteers, and fully retain the integrity of LEED. The following document contains guidance for project teams seeking to certify projects outside of the U.S. Please note that the ACPs are optional for projects outside of the U.S. and not all credits have an ACP. Project teams may choose which credits they wish to pursue with an ACP. The ACP Documentation Guidance for Projects outside the U.S. is a working document that is designed to aid teams in documenting the use of the ACPs. This is a draft document and it will be refined and updated until the ACPs are integrated in the LEED Online Platform by the first quarter of 2012. For each credit that has an Alternative Compliance Path, this guide provides the following: Submittal Guidance: How the project team documents the ACP, either in the Credit Form located in LEED Online, or with an ACP Excel Form to be uploaded to LEED Online. Demonstrated Performance Equivalency: Guidance on how to demonstrate performance equivalency with the LEED referenced standard if a local code or standard is used. Conversions/Calculations: If Metric to Imperial (IP) conversions are required, there is a Conversion Tool that the project team may use to assist in these calculations. The conversion tool is described in detail below. Supplementary Submittal Guidance: Additional resources are outlined, such as websites for standards referenced in the ACP. Registration and LEED Online LEED Online is the primary resource with which project teams manage the LEED certification process. Once a project is registered, LEED Online is used to: Submit documentation to USGBC for review Document compliance with LEED Credit Requirements (including Alternative Compliance Paths) Coordinate resources among project team members Manage public facing project details Submit technical inquires regarding LEED credits Track progress toward LEED certification Please note that LEED Online is written in English and that all metrics used within LEED online are Imperial (IP) units. All projects are required to submit documentation in English, using Imperial units., Project teams that typically work in Metric (SI) units should use the ACP Conversion Tool to convert measurements to Imperial units. iii

Three documentation strategies were developed for the Alternative Compliance Paths. Each ACP uses one of these three strategies: Project team completes only the base LEED Credit Form located in LEED Online, using guidance located in the corresponding credit section of this document. Project team completes the ACP Form created for a specific ACP. This form is used in conjunction with the base LEED Credit Form and uploaded to LEED Online along with any other required documentation. Project team completes a special table or tool that has been developed for the ACP. This table or tool is used in conjunction with the base LEED Credit form and uploaded to LEED Online. Several ACPs allow for the use of a local standard or code that is equivalent to, or more stringent than, the standard referenced in LEED. Project teams seeking this option are required to document that the standard referenced meets the equivalency requirements. USGBC recommends that project teams submit any local equivalent standards in the design submission or during pre-certification. USGBC will use the data provided by project teams about local codes and standards in order to pre-approve these standards for use in future projects outside the U.S. ACP Conversion Tool As mentioned above, another resource for projects outside the U.S. is the ACP Conversion Tool. The ACP Conversion Tool has been developed to allow for easier conversions from Metric (SI) to Imperial (IP) as required to complete Project Information and Credit Forms in LEED Online. The ACP Conversion Tool contains the following sections: Cover Sheet- Contains applicable LEED credits and conversion types. Basic conversions from SI to IP and from IP to SI are also located here. If the project has information in SI, these can be used to in order to complete the LEED Online Credit Forms in IP. Project Information Form 2- Contains all the conversions from SI to IP needed to complete this required LEED Online form. Project Information Form 3- Contains all the conversions from SI to IP needed to complete this required LEED Online form. WE Credit 3- Contains all the conversions needed to complete the tables for water use reduction in the WE Credit 3 LEED Credit Form. Other Resources The main resource for any LEED project is the LEED Reference Guide. The LEED Reference Guide for Green Building Design and Construction covers the LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations, LEED for Core and Shell, and LEED for Schools New Construction and Major Renovations Rating Systems. The LEED Reference Guide for Green Building Operations and Maintenance covers the LEED for Existing Building Operations and Maintenance Rating System. Documentation Guidance Examples Exemplary Performance Regional Variations Resources Definitions Although there is no information about the Alternative Compliance Paths for Projects Outside the U.S. in the LEED Reference Guides, they contain important information about the intent of all credits and prerequisites, as well as specific implementation advice that may still apply to projects pursuing ACPs. v

SS Credit 1: Site Selection 1 Point ACP Submittal Guidance for using Alternative Compliance Paths for projects Outside the U.S. (ACP) If the ACP has been chosen for this credit, please use the Credit Form and the ACP Form located in Credit Resources, and complete the following steps: 1. Complete the address fields at the top of the Credit Form with the project information, including the latitude and longitude of the geographic center of the project. 2. Under Additional Details, check the Alternative Compliance Path box. In the associated narrative box, state 3. Complete the ACP Form with the appropriate information as applicable to demonstrate compliance. To support the ACP credit declarations, supporting documentation must be provided to demonstrate that the 7 credit criteria are met. This documentation may include items such as a scaled map, letter from a representative of the relevant overseeing agency, and/or documentation of the alternative local standard used to demonstrate equivalence. 4. For Upload SSc1-ACP in the Credit Form, once the above is complete, upload the ACP Form and all requested maps, letters, and/or any additional documents that help demonstrate compliance with the Alternative Compliance Path option. Demonstrated Performance Equivalency In order to demonstrate performance that is equivalent to local code or standard, please ensure the local code or standard has been adequately identified and the following topics are addressed: a) Definition and methodology of high-value farmland used in determining equivalency b) Definition and methodology used to evaluate the hydrogeologic risk of the project site c) The national, state, provincial, territorial or regional authority standard used to identify threatened or endangered species d) Definition and methodology used to classify wetlands as being of high ecological value e) Methodology used to determine whether a water body supports aquatic life, recreation or industrial use Conversion / Calculations If the ACP option is used for this credit, project teams can refer to the ACP Conversion Tool to convert square meters to square feet. Exemplary Performance This credit is not eligible for exemplary performance under the Innovation in Design section. SS Credit 3: Brownfield Redevelopment 1 Point ACP Submittal Guidance for using Alternative Compliance Paths for projects Outside the U.S. (ACP) If the ACP option has been chosen for this credit, use the Credit Form located in LEED Online, and complete the following steps: 1. Select Option 1 under ALL OPTIONS of the Credit Form. 2. Complete narrative section of the Credit Form and upload documents as requested for Upload SSc3-1 and Upload SSc3-2. 3. Under Additional Details, check the Alternative Compliance Path box. In the associated narrative box, state 4. Within the narrative box, provide the name of the contamination risk protocol used to document contamination and the name of the regulatory body responsible for the protocol. 5. For Upload SSc3-ACP, upload any additional documents that help demonstrate compliance with the Alternative Compliance Path option. Exemplary Performance This credit is not eligible for exemplary performance under the Innovation in Design section. 3

SS Credit 4.1: Alternative Transportation Public Transportation Access 6 Points ACP Submittal Guidance for using Alternative Compliance Paths for projects Outside the U.S. (ACP) If the ACP option has been chosen for this credit, please use the Credit Form and the ACP Credit Form located in Credit Resources, and complete the following steps: 1. Under Additional Details, check the Alternative Compliance Path box. In the associated narrative box, state 2. Complete the ACP Form with the appropriate information as applicable to demonstrate compliance. The project team will need the following information to complete the form: The type(s) of transit (rideshare) Number of passengers the rideshare can accommodate Confirmation that the transit operates on a continual regular basis The name of the local transit authority authorizing the rideshare The distance from the rideshare stop to the main project entrance 3. For Upload SSc4.1-ACP in the Credit Form, once the above is complete, upload the ACP Credit Form and the required site plan, with scale, showing the walking path from the project main entrance to the ride share stop(s), and any additional documents that help demonstrate compliance with the Alternative Compliance Path option. Conversion / Calculations If Credit Options 1 or 2 or the ACP Option 1 is used for this credit, project teams can refer to the ACP Conversion Tool to convert meters to feet. Exemplary Performance Project teams may earn an Innovation in Design credit for exemplary performance by complying with the requirements of the 2 options described in the LEED Reference Guide for Green Building Design and Construction. The options are Option 1 Comprehensive Transportation Management Plan and Option 2 Double Transit Ridership. For either option, use the Credit Form located in LEED Online to document compliance. If Option 2 Double Transit Ridership is selected and is based on the Alternative Compliance Path rideshare option, please complete the Credit Form located in LEED Online as follows: 1. Under Additional Details, select the check box for exemplary performance and then check the box for Option 2 Double Transit Ridership. 2. Complete Table SSc4.1-4 Exemplary Performance Bus Service with information based on the rideshare options identified in the ACP Form. 3. or the Distance to Bus Stop column use the ACP Conversion Tool to convert meters to miles. 4. For the Service Type Column, select other and specify the type of transit identified in the ACP Credit Form. 4

SS Credit 4.4: Alternative Transportation Parking Capacity 2 Points ACP Submittal Guidance for using Alternative Compliance Paths for projects Outside the U.S. (ACP) If the ACP option has been chosen for this credit, please use the Credit Form and the ACP Form located in Credit Resources, and complete the following steps: 1. Under Additional Details, check the Alternative Compliance Path box. In the associated narrative box, state 2. Complete the ACP Form with the appropriate information as applicable to demonstrate compliance. 3. For Upload SSc4.4-ACP in the Credit Form, once the above is complete, upload the ACP Form, a letter or copy of the development control rules that states that there are no minimum parking requirements, a site plan, and any additional documents that help demonstrate compliance with the Alternative Compliance Path option. Conversion / Calculations If the ACP is used for this credit, project teams can refer to the ACP Conversion Tool to convert square meters to square feet. Exemplary Performance Projects may earn an Innovation in Design credit point for exemplary performance by instituting a comprehensive transportation management plan that demonstrates a quantifiable reduction in personal automobile use. Only 1 exemplary performance credit is available for implementing a comprehensive transportation management plan under SSc4, Alternative Transportation. Projects that are awarded exemplary performance for SS Credit 4.1, Alternative Transportation - Public Transportation Access, Option 2 are not eligible for exemplary performance under this credit. Please complete the exemplary performance portion of the Credit Form located in LEED Online to document compliance. 5

SS Credit 6.1: Stormwater Quantity Control 1 Point ACP Submittal Guidance for using Alternative Compliance Paths for projects Outside the U.S. (ACP) If the ACP option has been chosen for this credit, please use the Credit Form and the ACP Form located in Credit Resources, and complete the following steps: 1. Under Additional Details, check the Alternative Compliance Path box. In the associated narrative box, state 2. Complete the ACP Form with the appropriate information as applicable to demonstrate compliance. 3. The methodology for creating the graph requested in Upload SSc6.1-1 in the ACP Form is detailed on page 24 of the United States Environmental Protection Agency s Technical Guidance on Implementing the Stormwater Runoff Requirements for Federal Projects under Section 438 of the Energy Independence and Security Act. 4. For Upload SSc6-ACP in the Credit Form, once the above is complete, upload the ACP Form, the additional required documents noted in the ACP Form, and any additional documents that help demonstrate compliance with the Alternative Compliance Path option. Exemplary Performance No standardized exemplary performance option has been established for this credit. However, project teams may apply for exemplary performance by documenting a comprehensive approach to capture and treat stormwater runoff and demonstrating performance above and beyond the credit requirements. Only 1 exemplary performance credit may be achieved for SS Credit 6.1, Stormwater Design Quantity Control, and SS Credit 6.2, Stormwater Design Quality Control. Supplementary Submittal Guidance Resources and references may vary by region, please see the below list for additional guidance. SS Credit 8: Light Pollution Reduction 1 Point ACP Submittal Guidance for using Alternative Compliance Paths for projects Outside the U.S. (ACP) If the ACP Option has been chosen for this credit, please use the Credit Form located in LEED Online, and complete the following steps: 1. Complete all sections of the Credit Form as applicable to demonstrate compliance. 2. Under Exterior Lighting, please use the allowable lighting power densities outlined in the Alternative Compliance Path option to complete the ASHRAE Allowable LPD column in Table SSc8-1 and Table SSc8-2. 3. For Upload SSc8-6, the project team can use point-by-point foot candles at 3 meters and 4.5 meters instead of 10 feet and 15 feet respectively, as listed on the Credit Form. 4. Under Additional Details, check the Alternative Compliance Path box. In the associated narrative box, state 5. For Upload SSc8-ACP, upload any additional documents that help demonstrate compliance with the Alternative Compliance Path option. Conversion / Calculations If the ACP option is used for this credit, project teams can refer to the ACP Conversion Tool to convert meters to feet. Exemplary Performance This credit is not eligible for exemplary performance under the Innovation in Design section. 7

WE Credit 1: Water Efficient Landscaping 2-4 Points ACP Submittal Guidance for using Alternative Compliance Paths for projects Outside the U.S. (ACP) If ACP Option 1 or Option 2 has been chosen for this credit, please use the Credit Form located in LEED Online, and complete the following steps: 1. Complete all sections of the Credit Form as applicable to demonstrate compliance. 2. Under All Options, for ACP Option 1 or Option 2 Path 1, select declaration stating The landscaping and irrigation systems have been designed to reduce irrigation water consumption from a calculated baseline case. 3. Under Irrigation Water Consumption Reduction, enter the reference evapotranspiration rate (ETo). The ETo figure entered must be the month with the highest evapotranspiration rate. 4. Under All Options, if ACP Option 2, Path 2 is used, select the declaration stating The landscaping installed does not require permanent irrigation systems. Temporary irrigation systems used for plant establishment will be removed within one year of installation and provide the requested narrative. 5. Under Additional Details, check the Alternative Compliance Path box. In the associated narrative box, state 6. Within the narrative box, please provide detail on how the month with the highest evapotranspiration rate was determined, citing any references relating to this. 7. For Upload WEc1-ACP, upload the reference document or other supporting documentation that was used to determine the month with the highest evapotranspiration rate. Conversion / Calculations If ACP Option 1 is used for this credit project teams can refer to the ACP Conversion Tool to convert meters to feet and liters to gallons. Exemplary Performance This credit is not eligible for exemplary performance under the Innovation in Design section. Complete all columns with applicable material data for local and regional materials in the Credit Form as applicable to demonstrate compliance.
