COURSE SYLLABUS ARTS 472 INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA COURSE DESCRIPTION Study of both visual media design concepts and site management for web development. Practical experience in the preparation of digital materials on the development of standards to evaluate the presentation of information with these tools. Training in industry-standard digital media and multimedia authoring programs guided by principles of design, including graphic design and user interface design. (Formerly COMS 472). RATIONALE In order for any publishing effort to compete favorably for the attention of the plagued media receiver, communication students must be prepared to handle all aspects of the publishing process, including electronic publishing. Use of digital media and authoring programs must be guided by intelligent design, including typographic design, graphic design, and user interface design. ARTS 472 draws on beginning level ARTS courses such as Graphic Design, Advanced Graphic Design, and Basic Photography (an elective). I. Explain the fundamentals of effective web page design, interface design, and navigational hierarchies. B. Use a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program to transfer files. C. Produce self-promotional and portfolio materials through web design. D. Critique the multimedia design of others. E. Demonstrate competency, applied skills, and knowledge of course subject matter. F. Analyze multimedia design, digital media, design concepts, and website management for large scale web development. G. H. Demonstrate the principles of integration of faith, biblical worldview, and industry standards through Discussion Board Forums. IV. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS A. Course Requirements Checklist After reading the Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Module/Week 1. C. Discussion Board Forums (4) The student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided topic for each forum. Each thread must be 2 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to at least 2 other classmates threads. Each reply must be 100 words. D. Tutorials (8) Each chapter will have its own tutorials, and these will be due at the same time that the chapter test will be taken at the end of each module/week. E. Personal Website As a final project, the student will create a personal website in 4 stages: 1. Rationale and Initial Wireframe Thumbs 2. Final Wireframe 3. Index Page 4. Final Website F. Quizzes (8) Each quiz will cover the Reading & Study material for the module/week in which it is assigned. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain true/false, multiple-choice, matching, and hotspot questions. Time limits will vary based on the number of questions per quiz. V.
