Page 1 of 5 CLEVER Solutions Empowering Global Enterprise Successful Cloud Application Deployment using Mobile to Mainframe Technologies Happy New Year to all of you. In 2014, AES looks forward to working with you in meeting your IT Service Level Objectives in the areas of application end-end performance monitoring, mobile to mainframe performance analytics, Linux on system z migrations, and z/os performance baselines. These areas are critical as you move to cloud based computing, embark on data center transformation, or evolve your application environment to meet today's business needs. Don't miss our sections on company news and information on our upcoming events. Lauraʹs Corner Overcoming Application Deployment Challenges As cloud mainframe environments are implemented, especially with the zenterprise technology, a new set of applications are brought to the environment, often with very different design points than the traditional transaction-centric applications of the z/os mainframe world. Making this move into a robust zenterprise world will require access to essential details regarding the impact of the applications in order to ensure overall performance consistency. In our on demand and agile cloud environments our technical teams need a new level of access from mobile to mainframe. Challenges That Get Overlooked

Page 2 of 5 At the base of many cloud environments is a zenterprise system running Linux applications. Having worked with many clients moving Linux applications to Linux on System z, we have repeatedly come up against problems that are easy to resolve but also easy to overlook in the overall planning: 1. Failure to understand the cyclical nature of applications - Several projects had to completely readjust their application placement on virtualized Linux servers because they only took a small snapshot of the Linux Process metrics, encompassing only a few days' worth of data. Because they never collected extensive details for long periods of time on the Linux processes and their system impacts, the following key factors were missed: Several applications had excessive resource utilization from 10:00 pm until 4:00 am. Some applications had abnormal resource utilization at month end. Other applications had erratic resource utilization during specific yearly time periods. 2. Assuming that applications are using the best links available - On a zenterprise system, the communication options for applications continue to grow. Guest LANs, vswitches, and HiperSockets are technologies that have a valid reason to exist and are designed to provide performance benefits. On one project, moving applications to Linux on System z did not result in the expected performance level gains. The loss in performance levels was shown to be the result of misconfigurations causing applications to use inferior links. Viewing link utilization, both in real time and historically, can identify misconfigured applications and restore performance levels. 3. Ignoring the CPU Interval cycle for processes - One client never realized the load that their database was putting on a virtualized Linux server four different times each day. They initially looked only at the overall CPU cycle for the database process. This hid the fact that during cleanup periods, the database process resulted in abnormally high CPU usage, impacting other applications. 4. Inhibiting support teams access to problem information - As agility and on demand applications become the norm with Cloud computing, support teams need targeted access to information regardless of their location and access device at hand. A desktop and browser interface may not always be immediately available which can delay problem identification and resolution. This defeats the purpose of moving to a cloud computing environment. Mobile access with appropriate filtered metrics for a cloud environment is essential, empowering their employees to do their work anytime, anywhere. Overcoming Challenges with Performance Analytics The broad reach of CleverView for TCP/IP on Linux from AES allows users to collect, analyze, and report on metrics that provide insight into key application migration issues. CleverView for TCP/IP on Linux monitors and supports the complexity of a virtualized environment, providing real-time, near-time, and historical data for such critical system resources as CPUs, ports, links, routers, HiperSockets, and other devices.

Page 3 of 5 If you are moving Linux to the zenterprise and will continue to have Linux running on other platforms, your monitor must support both environments in order to provide consistent metrics and facilitate clear communications between support teams. CleverView for TCP/IP on Linux offers complete Linux support, regardless of platform, with visibility and accountability for end-to-end connectivity in any virtual networking environment. It monitors your Linux resources to determine that they are available, performing up to Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and being utilized effectively. Sample highlights of CleverView for TCP/IP on Linux include: LinuxView - the focal point from which you can monitor the health of all Linux nodes and identify performance bottlenecks, providing alerting before users complain. This clear visibility provides the basis for health checks of Linux nodes as data center consolidation, virtualization, or cloud projects are implemented. LinkView - monitors the network interfaces such as Guest LANs and HiperSockets with traffic statistics and interface status. The insight provided into the IP infrastructure is essential in understanding the unified zenterprise environment. ProcessView - provides the ability to interrogate application workload per process for CPU and memory/storage. This critical workload information shows trends, patterns, and anomalies for application functionality. Accurate application information leads to effective decision-making. ClusterView provides summarized information based on grouping and cluster categories of Linux hosts providing crisper, clearer, and more concise information to the user. CLEVER Mobile for Linux an optional feature supporting Android, BlackBerry, and ios allowing enterprise knowledge workers additional mobility. CLEVER Mobile TM Advantage CLEVER Mobile for Linux - This mobile app combined with our enterprise strength Linux monitor, CleverView for TCP/IP on Linux, offers powerful alert notification and command capabilities for both open systems and Linux on System z. Alerts are classified at different levels so that your VP of Operations knows about a Severity 1 alert while network staff need only see and respond to alerts based on their areas of responsibility. CLEVER Mobile for Linux powers IT support to meet business demands. CLEVER Mobile for z/comm - Powering zenterprise connectivity service performance, CLEVER Mobile for z/comm offers a secure z/os command facility for authorized users. With the touch of a finger, the Event Manager handles messages from the z/os system console. CLEVER Mobile for Trace - CLEVER Mobile for Trace captures mobile traces. The mobile trace is then transferred to the base product, CleverView for ctrace Analysis, providing a complete end to end TraceView of your multi-architecture environment --from Mobile to servers to mainframe. With auto-scheduling, interval based trace collection, side by side comparison and exception reporting, this combined package offers unsurpassed diagnostic capabilities.
