SENTINEL uses the Nimbus monitoring software as a more cost effective and flexible alternative to the Big 4 (HP Openview, IBM Tivoli, CA Unicenter, BMC Patrol), enabling a faster ramp up and implementation time for customers, measured in days, not weeks. Servatech s six figure investment in building the SENTINEL Platform at its Wakefield-based Network Operating Centre (NOC), enables customers to hook into the platform at relatively low cost, effectively making world-class monitoring a reality for most companies. SENTINEL from Servatech allows sophisticated IT monitoring of any system, any service, and any client. SENTINEL automatically discovers network interfaces, verifies connectivity, monitors interface traffic, collects and diagnoses accessibility, and calculates bandwidth utilization. 3 DATABASE MONITORING SENTINEL from Servatech raises the bar for database monitoring solutions, allowing a comprehensive monitoring picture of the performance all our clients databases, including Oracle, Sybase, DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, and IBM Informix. Additionally, to provide visibility of service quality as experienced by client end users and associated applications, the solution monitors remote SQL query response times and transaction rates. SERVER MONITORING SENTINEL from Servatech provides the broadest and deepest server monitoring solution on the market, monitoring all servers including VMware ESX, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, IBM iseries, HP HP/UX, Red Hat, SUSE Linux, Novell Netware, Microsoft Windows, and more. Through a single, easy-to-use console, Servatech can centrally monitor, and remotely manage all clients processes and services. These can then be leveraged into real-time alarm dashboards, performance trend reports, and SLA compliance reports. Servatech (and its customers through the online portal) get the real-time alerts they need to both pre-empt and respond to potential issues, and they can leverage intuitive reports and dashboards to analyze performance metrics, and offer sophisticated forecasting of database performance and usage. 4 END USER RESPONSE TIME MONITORING SENTINEL s end user response time monitoring solutions ensure that Servatech understand the most critical aspect of our clients IT infrastructure performance: what kind of responsiveness and reliability are end users actually receiving? Servatech offers two approaches to monitoring and measuring end user experience: Active monitoring. With SENTINEL s active monitoring solutions, administrators can routinely and consistently generate synthetic transactions that mirror actual end user behavior, and measure that experience from any number of locations. Passive monitoring. SENTINEL offers passive monitoring solutions that can measure the performance that real end users are actually experiencing at any given point in time. Servatech can leverage these two approaches, both individually and in tandem, to ensure we get the end user response time monitoring insights needed for our clients specific business and operational objectives. VIRTUALIZATION MONITORING While VMware s virtualization capabilities ushered in a world of potential benefits, they also brought an entirely new world of challenges from a monitoring perspective challenges that big four system management tools and platform-centric solutions are ill-equipped to address. SENTINEL from Servatech adds virtualization monitoring capabilities to our portfolio of services. Performance data is automatically consolidated and archived into a backend SQL Server database. Once there, the SENTINEL report generation wizard can be used to produce client-accessible Web reports in a matter of minutes. Short and long term performance reports are ideal for capacity planning, load balancing, and preempting degrading conditions. SENTINEL reporting periods can be based on a range of intervals, including last 24 hours, last week, last month, prior weeks, prior months, and prior quarters. SENTINEL stacked performance reports can display individual and total measurements (the example reports below shows application transaction response times; daily trend and weekly). 4

6 SENTINEL SLA COMPLIANCE MONITORING AND REPORTING SOLUTION SENTINEL offers automated data analysis, compliance calculation, and report generation enabling Servatech and their clients to get the timely insights they need. With SENTINEL, verbal and written SLAs can be easily transposed into SLA templates for automated compliance calculation. Then, SENTINEL can generate real-time, Web-based compliance reports that feature breach forecast indicators. SENTINEL provides a graphical and text-based representation of IT infrastructure performance contrasted against service level commitments. These reports can be both historical, recapping compliance during prior periods, and forward looking, revealing the likelihood of achieving service level compliance during the current measurement period. SLA periods may be defined in day, week, or month increments. DEPLOYMENT OPTIONS Deployment Option 1 In this scenario, Servatech owns the software and leases the managed service to its client. SENTINEL probes are installed at the customer s site to perform local monitoring tasks, and collect performance data. SENTINEL alarms and performance metrics are transported across the Internet. SENTINEL secures this data transfer by creating and maintaining an SSL tunnel, a secure point-to-point connection between two locations. SENTINEL SSL tunneling performs a task identical to a traditional VPN, but without the need to purchase and install a traditional VPN configuration. Deployment Option 2 In this scenario, Servatech already has established a VPN connection with their client. SENTINEL probes are installed at the customer site to perform local monitoring tasks, and collect performance data. SENTINEL alarms and performance data is transported across the customer s VPN to the MSP for processing and problem resolution. In Both cases, secure web links are made available, in order for the customer to view the information provided by SENTINEL, providing an overview of the state of their network, from any internet connected machine. Deployment Option 3 In this scenario, Servatech installs the NimBUS software direct on the customer premises and hands over the management interfaces and service level reports to their client s internal IT staff. In this case, the customer would own the NimBUS software. This is not a typical scenario, since the expense of buying the software outright, is added to the significant investment a customer must make in additional server hardware, training and building the monitoring environment. This usually takes the investment beyond the reach of most customers. SENTINEL as a product is the combination of NimBUS, Servatech s NOC, helpdesk, engineering team and design/implementation team. 5
