Voyager Reporting System (VRS) Installation Guide Revised 5/09/06

System Requirements Verification 1. Verify that the workstation s Operating System is Windows 2000 or Higher. 2. Verify that Microsoft Access 2000 or Higher is installed directly on the workstation (over the network will not suffice). Make note of the location of MSACCESS.EXE, e.g. c:\program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Msaccess.exe. 3. Verify that the workstation has a current version of Oracle for Windows NT, with the patches (ORA8057 and ORA8058) installed. If the current Oracle ODBC Driver (8.00.58.00) displayed in Figure 2 is installed then proceed to Oracle SQL Net Configuration. Otherwise follow the steps below to install Oracle Client Application. Note: Start Program Files Oracle for Window NT Microsoft ODBC Administrator

Oracle 8.0.5 ODBC Installation (Distributed originally by Endeavor Information Systems; Modified by GIL Service Site @ GA State University) Approximately 183 MB of free hard disk space is required to install Oracle Client. Once the ODBC805SP2.zip, ORA8057.exe and ORA8058.exe files are downloaded onto your workstation from the GIL Download Site follow the procedures below to install the Oracle ODBC driver and SQL*Net. 1. Unzip the ODBC805SP2.zip file into a temporary directory on the client s workstation (C:\temp\Oracle). Zip program such as WINZIP or Windows XP unzip utility can be used to extract the zipped file. 2. Create a directory within C:\temp\Oracle\Patch8057 and C:\temp\Oracle\Patch8058 for the Oracle ODBC Driver patches. Download both patches into their directory accordingly. Double-click ORA8057.exe and ORA8058.exe to extract into the described directory. 3. Open the unzipped ODBC805SP2 in the current directory and double click setup.exe. 4. Type the institution name for the Company Name field and keep the default values for the following fields. Follow the example in Figure 3 Name: DEFAULT_HOME Location: c:\orant Language: English

5. Select the options below, on the left side of the screen, using the Ctrl Key and then click the install button. Follow the example in Figure 4. Oracle Installer Oracle Call Interface 8.0.5.0.0 Oracle Net8 Products 8.0.5.0.0 Oracle Networking Products 2.3.4.0.2 Oracle ODBC Driver 8.0.5.0.0 The installer will install the appropriate files on the workstation. After successful installation, install the ODBC Drivers.

Installing Patches 6. While the Oracle Asset Manager window is open, Click on the From button to browse c:\temp\oracle\ patch.exe \win32\install\nt.prd file and choose OK to select the Oracle ODBC driver patch. 7. Refer to step 2 to download and extract the Oracle ODBC Driver patches.

8. Select the ODBC driver patch on the left window and click install to install the patch. 9. Repeat step 6 to install additional Oracle ODBC Drivers. After successful installation, exit from the installer program, click Yes to confirm. Configuring Oracle SQL Net Oracle SQL Net must be configured in order to connect to the Voyager Database. This process has two sub-parts. Oracle Net8 Easy Config 1. At the Windows Start menu, click on [Start] [Programs] [Oracle For Windows NT] [Oracle Net8 Easy Config], and at the prompt, click [Yes] to continue. 2. At the next prompt, under Choose Action, choose [Add New Service]; under Choose Service Name, in the field of New Service Name, enter [LIBR], and then click [Next].

Figure A-002 ODBC Driver Setup Screnvo 3. On the next screen, select [TCP/IP] and click [Next]. 4. At the next prompt, specify the host name for the computer where the database is located and the port number where the database can be contacted. Enter [<your DSN>] (ex. voyager2.gsu.edu) for Host Name. The default port number is 1521, change it only if you know that your port number is different. Then, click [Next].

5. Next, you are prompted for the Database SID (System IDentifier) for the database you want to use. Enter [LIBR] for the oracle database, and then click [Next]. 6. At the next prompt, press the [Test Service] button if you would like to test that a connection to the database can be made using the information you provided. 7. At the Connection Test menu, enter your username and password. If you don t know your db username and password, contact your service site. Then, press the [Test] button to connect. If the connection succeeds, you will see a The connection test was successful message. Click [Done] at the bottom. If the test fails, then go back to verify all of your configuration information. If the test still fails, continue anyhow. 8. Next, you will return to the previous menu. Click on [Next] and [Finish] to exit the configuration program.

Configuring the 32 bit ODBC Control Panel 1. At the Windows Start menu, click [Start] [Programs] [Oracle for Windows], and then select [Microsoft ODBC Administrator]. 2. On the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box, click on [System DSN] tab and then click on the [Add] button. 3. Next, on the Create New Data Source dialog box, select [Oracle ODBC Driver] and click on the [Finish] button. At the Oracle8 OBDC Driver Setup dialog box, enter the information as specified below: Data Source Name: gil.xxxx.edu (or voyager-xxxx.gsu.edu, etc.) [your cname] Description: voyager tables Data Source Service Name: LIBR You will not need to enter a UserID. Check the Connect to database in read only mode checkbox, and uncheck Enable Query Timeout, but keep everything else as the listed default values. (If you don t see these options you have not installed the patches.) Then, click [OK]. Figure A-002 ODBC Driver Setup Screen

Next, at the ODBC Data Source Administrator menu, if you see your Data Source Name, as above, and Oracle ODBC Driver present in the System Data Source box, click [OK] and this will exit you from the configuration window. If you don t, repeat sub-part two. 1. To test the configuration, go to [Start] [Programs] [Oracle for Windows], and then select [Oracle ODBC Test]. 2. Click [Connect] and select your Data Source Name from the Machine Data Source tab. Click [OK]. 3. Enter your user name and password (the same ones from sub-part one). 4. If you receive an error, repeat the Configuring the 32 bit ODBC Control Panel section. If you do not, you may continue. 5. You can use the [User Tables] button to display the database tables. Click [Next Row Set] to scroll through the list. This confirms that the setup is correct thus far. VRS Setup and Configuration Installing VRS Before the installation begins create the path: C:\G2\VRS\vrs_install. Download the latest version of VRS from the GIL download site. Unzip the contents of the file into the \vrs_install folder. The VRS_Setup.exe file will automatically begin after you successfully unzip the folder. For a typical installation, follow the prompts and accept all of the default values within the InstallShield Wizard. The Database Setup will begin once the wizard ends. That database setup must be performed in order for VRS to function correctly.

Figure A-001 Database Setup Step 1 Enter the library name in the text box. If this is upgrade, the name will automatically display, and you can skip the setup by clicking [Run VRS]. If this is a fresh install, click [Next] to continue with the database setup. Figure A-002 Database Setup Step 2 Fill in the information within each field and click [Next].

Figure A-003 Database Setup Step 3 Click [Finish Setup] and verify the information. You can now run VRS! You can test the application by running a report on Catalog Status Counts, as this is one of the quicker reports to produce. To do this, start the application, then go to [Cataloging Reports] and click [Run] in the Catalog Maintenance panel.
