You must have first successfully installed The Raiser s Edge application files before running this installation. This installation need only be run on workstations that need RE:Open access to the Raiser s Edge database. The Raiser s Edge for Windows RE:Open installation is actually a three step process. Note: These steps must be completed in the order specified: 1. Install the 16-bit RE:Open components. 2. Install the 32-bit RE:Open components. 3. Configure Microsoft Access to access your Raiser s Edge database. 16-Bit Installation When installing the add-on module RE:Open for use with Access 95, Access 97, or any other 32-bit database program, you must first install the 16-bit portion of the program. This contains vital information for the RE:Open module including your registration, which contains your user ID and password. 1. Insert the diskette labeled RE:Open Installation Disk 1 into the floppy drive of your computer. 2. Select Start from the Taskbar. 3. Choose Run from the Start Menu. 4. Select the Browse button. Configuring Microsoft Access and RE:Open Once you have completed the installation of the RE:Open application files and the 32-bit ODBC drivers (if required) you must configure Microsoft Access to attach to your Raiser s Edge database. We will be using Access 97 as our example in this documentation. Installed with the SQL Anywhere version of RE:Open is an add-on for Microsoft Access. This utility will attach all the tables and views from your Client/Server database. This will give you a read only view of your data in a tabular format. Also, please note that you do not need to run this utility in order to execute SQL statements against your database. 1. Launch Microsoft Access and choose to create a new or blank database. Microsoft Access will prompt you to input a database name. Although you can give this database any name, you might consider something like Open.mdb, REWIN.mdb or Resqla.mdb. 2. From the menu bar, choose Tools, Add-ins, Add-in Manager and ensure the RE:Open Attachment Utility is installed. If it is not available, select to Add New and browse for the Reattach97.mde (depending on your version) and choose to install. Click Close to continue. RE:Open for SQL Anywhere Installation Guide 8
3. With the RE:Open attachment utility installed you can now attach tables within your Raiser s Edge database to your newly created Microsoft Access Database. To attach tables in Microsoft Access choose File, Get External Data, Link Tables. NOTE: Your Raiser s Edge SQL Anywhere database must be running and available in order to attach tables successfully!!! 4. In the screen below choose ODBC Databases in the Files of Type: drop-down box. 5. When you select Odbc Databases the following screen appears. On the Machine Data Source tab select the DSN for your Raiser s Edge database. (See page 2 of this guide if you are unsure of which DSN to choose). Click on OK to continue. RE:Open for SQL Anywhere Installation Guide 9
6. After you have selected the correct DSN you will be prompted for a User ID and a Password. You will find these printed on the letter that was enclosed with your software. If you have any problems with the supplied User ID and Password please call The Raiser s Edge for Windows Support team at 1-800-468-8996 Ext. 4150. 7. Once your User ID and password are validated you must then specify which Raiser s Edge tables should be attached. To select a table for attachment simply click on the table name (you do not have to hold the SHIFT key down to select multiple tables). If you do not want to be prompted for a User ID and password each time you access these tables be sure to select the Save Password check-box. Click OK to continue.
