Strategy & Planning What is it? Strategy & Planning is an organisational management activity that is used to set priorities, focus energy and resources, strengthen operations, ensure that employees and other stakeholders are working toward common goals, establish agreement around intended outcomes/results, and assess and adjust the organization's direction in response to a changing environment. It is a disciplined effort that produces fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organisation is, who it serves, what it does, and why it does it, with a focus on the future. Effective strategic planning articulates not only where an organization is going and the actions needed to make progress, but also how it will know if it is successful. Our service begins by working with you to clearly define your goals, objectives and desired future state of your organisation (Vision & Mission). Enterprise Architects can then establish a strategy formulation, where a high level strategy and plan is developed over an agreed time horizon. A strategic plan is a document used to communicate with the organisation the organizations goals, the actions needed to achieve those goals and all of the other critical elements developed during the planning exercise. A roadmap can then be defined to establish the enterprise vision. Services we offer: Vision & Mission Business Strategy IT Strategy Roadmaps

Without a clear corporate mission and a shared vision of the future to guide actions, the typical large company would be ungovernable. The direction in which the organisation is heading and the outcomes it is trying to achieve is often poorly defined. A mission expresses the organization s timeless aspirations and values. A vision is more practical and describes a desirable end state consistent with the mission that will be realized within a finite period. And a strategy is the plan to realize that vision. Several key questions are central to the development of mission and vision: For what broad principles and aspirations does our company stand? What specific medium-to-long-term strategic goals are we working toward? How do we ensure that our mission is broadly embraced across the organization and not just seen as words on paper? How should we develop and communicate our vision to foster the broadest possible alignment? We have extensive experience in helping clients express their mission and sharpen their vision. These are some of our typical projects: Exploring Futures with Scenario Planning. We define and pressure-test a medium-to-long-term vision through the development and exploration of a carefully drawn set of future scenarios. Mission and Vision Development. We work with clients to craft, communicate, and establish a mission and then to shape a related vision for the business. Sample Deliverables: Balance Scorecards (Systematic framework for strategic planning) SWOT Analysis (strength, weakness, Opportunities, Threats) Mission and Vision Assessment (Internal and External) Mission and Vision Development Mission/Vision Statements Scenario Planning Visual Strategic Plan

Programme & Project Recovery Initial view of the programme including outline recovery plan. Document specifying initial position. Review of the initial position with client stakeholders. 6 6 84 9 1,2 1 1,2 12, 1 Service Definition Enterprise Architects offer a Programme & Project Recovery services provide a solution that repair failing or failed projects. Programme Recovery is different from normal project management. Programmes can often go off track and fail. Large scale, complex and IT enabled programmes are the most likely victims. The consequences for organisations can be disastrous hitting cash flow and bottom line results, damaging reputation with customers and diminishing morale within the business. The problem is that most organisations either do not recognise the symptoms of failure early enough, or do not know what actions to take to recover or even salvage a failing project. Recovery projects usually have high visibility at Board level, they get talked about widely as people like to speculate and second guess the outcomes and stress levels increase. There will be a sense of urgency and a need to take measured short cuts and apply rapid recovery techniques if a programme is to deliver to its original or revised objectives. Experience in knowing how to get it right first time is essential. This Service is all about recovering the programme or a component of the programme for example, programme office services or technical architecture. This Service is also about taking and enforcing accountability. This type of Service only works when we are integrated at the appropriate level within your company's organisation and all parties fully understand the authority and reporting lines. Either a precursor or one of the first deliverables from this Service would be a Programme Review. Programme & Project Management Project Planning & Scheduling Stakeholder Management A typical set of deliverables from this Service could be: Initial view delivered after 1 week; Detailed recovery plan delivered after 4 weeks; Customer recovery plan after 4 weeks; Review of original business case and contract after 8 weeks; Detailed action plan against business case and contract after 8 weeks; Cost recovery plan after 8 weeks; Improved customer confidence after 12 weeks; As each engagement is bespoke to your company, timescales and delivery may vary

Project Planning & Scheduling Production of a detailed project/programme schedule of up to 3 lines to support your project objectives. The mapping of Stakeholder interest/power matrix indicating power, influence, interest of each Stakeholders along with a strategy to adopt for engaging them. Deliverables: Stakeholder Analysis; Stakeholder Interest/Power Grid (RACI) Matrix; Stakeholder Management Plan Benefits: The input of key stakeholders can be used to shape the architecture - this ensures their support and improves the quality of the models produced; Good relationship with stakeholders will facilitate the availability of more resources, thus making the architecture engagement more likely to succeed; Clear communicating with stakeholders early and frequently will ensure the architecture team can fully understand the architecture process, and the benefits of enterprise architecture; this means they can support the architecture team more actively when necessary; The architecture team can more effectively anticipate likely reactions to the architecture models and reports, and can build into the plan the actions that will be needed to capitalize on positive reaction while avoiding or addressing any negative reactions; The architecture team can identify conflicting or competing objectives among stakeholders early and develop a strategy to resolve the issues arising from them.

Enterprise What is it? An Enterprise (EA) is a conceptual blueprint that defines the structure and operations of an organisation. Just as provides a blueprint for constructing a building, Enterprise provides a blueprint and roadmap for aligning business strategy with IT. The aim of an Enterprise is to support the determination of how an organisation can most effectively achieve its current and future objectives. The Enterprise provides a guide to direct the evolution and transformation of enterprises with technology. Enterprise has grown in prominence and stature as a key enabler to organisational success. Enterprise provides the basis from which data, organisational accountability, technology capabilities and detailed process can be developed with a consistent, reusable framework. Enterprise is becoming a MUST for managing today s increasingly complex business environment. If it is successfully defined, implemented and followed, EA should deliver a simple set of benefits better, faster and cheaper. However, this is a long(er) term proposition and requires time and effort. The benefits reported from our client engagements include: The benefits of EA reported from our client engagements include: We offer the following services: EA Capability & Operating Model EA Consultancy EA Methodology & Framework (TOGAF) EA Capability Assessment EA Governance & Planning Function EA Project Initiation & Mobilisation EA Content Development Security Business IT Advisory A more efficient IT operation Better return on existing IT investment and reduced risk for future IT investment Faster, simpler and cheaper procurement of IT solutions Increased flexibility for business growth and restructuring Faster time-to-market for new products or even operational innovations Reduced business risk associated with IT Bridging of the business strategy & implementation gap Delivery of prioritized and appropriate solutions for the business

EAL uses a 6 phase process for establishing EA capability within an organisation. The phases are their descriptions are highlighted below: Phase 1 - EA Project Initiation/Mobilisation This phase will review and assess the client environment to inform the definition and mobilisation of the Enterprise project. It includes defining and establishing the EA project, setting up an repository, deploying an framework and methodology (including tooling) and defining the Charter, Principles, Vision; Phase 2 - Develop Baseline EA This phase will document the current state Business, Information, Systems and Technology architecture for the organisation. All artefacts, deliverables and matrices created will contribute towards the development of the baseline Definition Document (ADD); Phase 3 - Develop Target EA This phase will document the future state Business, Information, Systems and Technology artefacts for the organisation. A Gap Analysis between the Baseline & Target s will be performed to define the resulting Requirements Specification (ARS). The Gap Analysis will where possible identify reuse & commonality from the baseline architecture. Core deliverables include: TARGET EA: Framework population - Business, Information, Applications & Technology Domains; The artefacts, deliverables and matrices will contribute towards the development of the Definition Document; GAP ANALYSIS: Business, Information, Applications & Technology - Requirements Specification; Phase 4- Migration Planning & Roadmaps Development This phase will develop an Integrated Road Map that incrementally transitions the current environment to the defined target state. The road map will provide a framework for prioritizing and sequencing activities based upon the organisation expectations and anticipated constraints. Grouping appropriate related architectural components together will aid in the identification and specification of proposed IT projects that need to be documented in the roadmap. Phase - Establish EA Governance This phase will establish the governance Operating Model for the client. It will establish the operating processes, lifecycle, roles and responsibilities, training needs for the function. It will also establish a EA function roadmap for the client; Phase 6 - Sustainability of EA Discipline This phase addresses the Post-Execution support and follow up activities that are expected of a long term partner. This phase will ensure that the EA Discipline is maintained and resourced through an actionable plan derived from an EA Capability Maturity Assessment and the EA governance planning previously established. EAL will certify the Enterprise Capability to the TOGAF 9.1 standard. An training plan will be developed and agreed with the Client. All training will be conducted using EAL's TOGAF 9.1 training products.
