Doctoral Degree Program in Medicinal Sciences of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences Course Outline and Policy Code Clinical The aim of this course is to nurture students to become one of the various types of specified pharmacists, certified specialists of 31 Pharmacy pharmacological therapy for specific diseases, as well as pharmacists who can lead and instruct the work of other pharmacists in general at hospitals, clinics and pharmacies. Medicinal The aim of this course is to nurture students to become researchers in basic pharmaceutical sciences who understand pharmacists work of 32 Science clinical practice in the fields of R & D of pharmaceutical companies, CRO, SMO, CMO, universities & research institutes (including medical ICT), researchers and developers at pharmaceutical companies, clinical research coordinators, as well as faculty members of universities and researchers To apply for the Clinical Pharmacy Course, a license to practice pharmacy is required. Qualification for Applicants HIGO Program Basic Doctoral Course 1) Educational Background: All applicants should have completed 16 years of educational and research experience. The applicants must satisfy at least one of the following eight educational backgrounds and research experience: 1 Applicants must be graduated from a four-year medical, dental, pharmaceutical or veterinary school outside of Japan, or expected to graduate from such a school by September 2013, to be eligible to enroll in October 2013, or by April 2014 to be eligible to enroll in April 2014. 2 Applicants must have finished 16 years of school education by taking

correspondence courses provided by the school outside of Japan, while residing in Japan, or expected to finish such process by September 2013, to be eligible to enroll in October 2013, or by April 2014 to be eligible to enroll in April 2014. 3 Applicants must have completed at least 16 years of education (recognized by the Japanese Minister of Education and Culture, Sports Science and Technology) in their home countries. Welcome to apply are those who are prospective graduates by September 2013 for October 2013 enrolment, or those expecting to graduate by April 2014 are eligible to enroll for April 2014. 4 Applicants from a specified course of vocational schools (limited to those who must have studied over 4 years and those who have fulfilled the requirements authorized by the Minister of Education and Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) must have completed the course designated by such authority on the day after the designated day (those who are prospective graduate by September 2013 are eligible to enroll in October 2013, or by April 2014 are eligible to enroll in April 2014 are included). 5 Applicants must be approved by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology based on the No.5 Announcement of the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture in 1953. 6 Applicants must be recognized as having attainment of equal or a greater academic ability than other graduates of our university in the qualification examination provided by Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kumamoto University and reach 22 years old by September, 2013, to be enrolled in October 2013, or reach 22 years old by March 2014, to be enrolled in April 2014. 7 Applicants must have studied in our university more than three years, and be recognized to have achieved excellent academic ability in the credits provided by the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kumamoto University. 8 Applicants must have completed a 15-year education outside of Japan, or must have finished 15 years of education through correspondence education provided by the school outside of Japan while residing in Japan, and must be recognized to have achieved excellent academic standing by the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kumamoto University.

Note: Applicants who would like to apply with educational backgrounds 6~8should contact the Student Affair Section, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Tel: +81-96-371-4635, E-mail: sky-kyomu@jimu.kumamoto-u.ac.jp) HIGO Program, Four year Doctoral Course 1) Educational Background: All applicants should have more than 18 years of educational background and research experience, and should satisfy at least one of the following six requirements: 1 Applicants must have graduated from a six-year medical, dental, pharmaceutical or veterinary school outside of Japan, or be expected to graduate from such a school by September 2013 to be eligible to enroll in October 2013, or by April 2014, to be eligible to enroll in April 2014. 2 Applicants must have graduated from a five-year medical, dental, pharmaceutical or veterinary school outside of Japan, and must have conducted research for more than 1 year in a university or a research institute outside of Japan, after completion of formal education, or be expected to finish such a process by September 2013 to be eligible to enroll in October 2013, or by March 2014 to be eligible to enroll in April 2014. 3 Applicants must be graduated from a four-year medical, dental, pharmaceutical or veterinary school outside of Japan, and must have conducted research for more than two years in a university or a research institute outside of Japan, after completion of formal education, or be expected to finish such a process by September 2013 to be eligible to enroll in October 2013, or by March 2014 to be eligible to enroll in April 2014. 4 Applicants must hold a Master s degree from an institution which has a two-year education program outside of Japan, after completion of 16 years of formal education outside of Japan, or be expected to meet this requirement by September 2013 to be eligible to enroll in October 2013, or by March 2014, to be eligible to enroll in April 2014. 5 Applicants must have conducted research for at least two years in a university or a research institute outside of Japan, after completion of 16

years of formal education outside of Japan, and be recognized as having an education that is equivalent to a Master s degree. 6 Applicants must be recognized by the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Science, Kumamoto University as having attainments equal to or greater than a Master s degree. 2) Health: Applicants must be in good physical and mental health. 3) Language Ability: Applicants must have earned the minimum required score in any one of the following. 1 TOEFL-iBT 2TOEFL-CBT 3TOEFL-PBT 4TOEIC 5IELTS 3) Visa: Applicants must have a student visa when coming to Japan. Term of Education HIGO Program Basic Course: from October 2013 to September 2015 (two years) HIGO Program Specialized Course: from October 2015 to September 2018 (three years) Or HIGO Program Basic Course: from April 2014 to March 2016 (two years) HIGO Program Specialized Course: from April 2016 to March 2019 (three years) HIGO Program Four-year Course: from October 2013 to September 2017 (four years) Or Four-year Course: from April 2014 to March 2018 (four years) Scholarship Benefits Successful applicants are eligible to receive a stipend while in school (140,000 yen/ month for basic course students, and 200,000 yen/ month for 4-year course students in the 2013 academic year). Note that the amount of scholarship is subject to change each academic year. Also note that the qualification for this privilege may be reassessed by mid-term evaluations. Date of Enrollment: October 1, 2013 or April 1, 2014 (Those who wish to enroll in October 1 must complete their admission

procedures by September 12 following the examination results on July 26). Academic Degree: Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) is conferred to students who successfully fulfill all the requirements of the basic and the specialist courses, or the 4-year course of the HIGO program. Application Deadline The research leaders or prospective supervisors of the international students should collect and submit all the required documents, shown below, for application to the Student Affair Section, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences by June 18 (Tuesday), 2013.. Examination Date: July 6 (Saturday), 2013 Required documents Applicants should submit the following documents: 1) Application form for admission (Form 1) 2) Photo ID card, examination card, certificate of residence (Form 2) 3) One photograph (paste photograph of the applicant taken within the last three months on the Photo ID card. Application for the International Students House Kumamoto University provides dormitory accommodation for international students. Students who wish to reside here should make an application as follows. Term of occupancy is one year, in general. Those who fail the examination cannot reside here. (4) Individual Information of the applicants acquired for screening, which includes the results of examination is used to support their education, to provide scholarship, or to exempt them from enrollment fees or tuition fees. (5) Unidentifiably statistically processed Individual information is used to review and research on the selection of students. Individual information acquired by Kumamoto University is not provided to any third party for other utilization purposes, unless there is an agreement from the

applicants. However, it excludes the cases stipulated in Article 9 of the Law Concerning Protection of Individual Information that Independent Corporations Possess.
