1 Program: School of Nursing and Health Sciences RN to BSN Program Assessed by: Stephanie Reagan Date: Mission Statement: The purpose of the RN-BSN Nursing program at Malone University is to provide registered nurses (RNs) who have completed either an associate degree program or a diploma program for their basic nursing education a completion of their Bachelor in Science Nursing degree. Program Goals: 1. Understand and critically engage those bodies of knowledge and cultural influences that have shaped the world. 2. Understand the biblical, historical, and theological foundation of the Christian faith. 3. Think critically and communicate effectively in multiple contexts. 4. Attain expertise in at least one profession or academic discipline and lay the foundation for meaningful work or further studies at the graduate level. 5. Explore the implications of the Christian faith for all areas of living, including intellectual, spiritual, and community pursuits. 1 P age

Synthesize theoretical and empirical knowledge from the liberal arts, sciences, humanities, Christian faith, and nursing as a source for making nursing practice decisions in a variety of nursing contexts and settings. (Meets Goal #1, 3, & 5) 1. California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST) A. This test is an objective measure of the core reasoning skills needed for reflective decision making concerning what to believe or what to do. The overall score predicts the capacity for success in educational or workplace settings which demand reasoned decision making and thoughtful problem solving. Cohort # 39: Class of 12, Pretest overall percentile score: 31 and Post-test overall percentile score: 29 Cohort # 40: Class size of 16 for the Pre-test overall percentile score: 27 and Class size of 14 for the Post-test overall percentile score: 26 #39: The CCTST measures core critical thinking skills such as analysis, interpretation, inference, evaluation, explanation, induction & deduction. When comparing overall percentage scores the students did improve over the seven areas recorded B. Benchmark for the CCTST is for the percentile score of the post test to be above pre test percentile score. 2. RN/BSN Exam Critical thinking A. Online 50 question exam designed to measure student s ability to apply concepts related to a specific nursing content area. Given a percentile ranking comparison with BSN and AD programs and overall ranking. B. Benchmark is at or above the National Mean HESI Composite score. In addition will be evaluated by the stated acceptable HESI score of 850 and/or percentile ranking of 50%. Cohort # 39 Class of 12 with mean of 753 with a range of class scored a mean of 788, mean of , & a This test is given the 4 th week of Capstone NRN 461, faculty discussed moving this test to the second week, when students are not that tired and at the beginning of class. 2 P age

Demonstrate Christian values, ethics, and caring qualities in nursing practice in such a way that personal values are maintained while respecting the rights and dignity of persons with varying physiological, psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual needs. (Meets goal #2 and #5) 1. RN/BSN Exam A. Online 50 question exam designed to measure student s ability to apply concepts related to a specific nursing content area. Given a percentile ranking comparison with BSN and Associate Degree programs and overall ranking. B. Benchmark is at or above the National Mean HESI Composite score. In addition will be evaluated by the stated acceptable HESI score of 850 and/or percentile ranking Ethics Cohort # 39 Class of 12 with mean of 784 with a range of of 50% Cohort # 40 - Class of 14, the class scored a mean of 723, & a Assessment: Cohort # 39 - Class of 12 with mean of 788 with a range of Cohort # 40- Class of 14, the class scored a mean of 876, & a Even though the mean was the met the overall percentile ranking was met at 50%. As stated above, the faculty discussed moving the Exit Hesi to earlier in the Capstone course. To help with test fatigue. The Exit exam was moved to the beginning of class, Week #3. Technical skills: Cohort # 39 - Class of 12 with only 11 students completing the Exit Testing, the class scored a mean of 805 with a range of and a percentile ranking Cohort # 40 - Class of 14, the class scored a mean of 799, & a percentile ranking of 60.2% 3 P age

RN/BSN Exam A. Online 50 question exam designed to measure student s ability to apply concepts related to a specific nursing content area. Given a percentile ranking comparison with BSN and Associate Degree programs and overall ranking. B. Benchmark is at or above the National Mean HESI Composite score. In addition will be evaluated by the stated acceptable HESI score of 850 and/or a percentile ranking Health Promotion/Risk Prevention: Cohort # 39- Class of 12 with mean of 752 with a range of class scored a mean of 659, & a Communication: Cohort # 39- Class of 12 with mean of 759 with a range of. Cohort # 40 - Class of 14, the class scored a mean of 900, & a Even though the mean was the met the overall percentile ranking was met at 50%. (Meets goal #4) 1. RN/BSN Exam A. Specialty exam designed to measure the student s ability to apply concepts related to specific clinical nursing content areas. Specialty exams consist of 50 test items. Test items that best measure nursing knowledge and competencies within the designated content area are selected from HESI database.
