1 The ANESTHESIA CIRCUIT UNION UNIVERSITY NURSE ANESTHESIA NEWSLETTER FIRST EDITION Welcome! Welcome to the first edition of The Anesthesia Circuit published by the Union University Nurse Anesthesia Track. The Anesthesia Circuit will be a biannual publication to keep our alumni, students, and friends updated in the happenings within our program. Our vision for this publication is to inform the anesthesia community of the events and education at Union University as well as keep the anesthesia community informed of the current anesthesia environment as a whole. We welcome any announcements, personal news, article ideas, or job advertisements to share with readers. Such items can be ed to Dr. Melissa Lefave at [email protected]. Most importantly, our prayer at Union is that we reflect Christ in all things and love one another. If you have a personal prayer request that you would like the faculty and staff of the nurse anesthesia program to pray for, please submit those as well to Dr. Lefave. Of course, these will not be published, but we would be honored to lift your requests up in prayer. 2 The ANESTHESIA CIRCUIT 2015 Nurse Anesthesia Mission Trip: Dominican Republic 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. I Peter 4:10-11 The nurse anesthesia program at Union University has been involved in annual mission trips to the Dominican Republic since January of Dr. Wright, Dr. Yearwood, Dr. Lefave, ten junior nurse anesthesia students, and two CRNAs from the community continued this mission work January 26-30, Through partnership with SCORE International (Sharing Christ our Redeemer Enterprises) and a medical team from North Carolina, team members were able to help meet the medical needs of over 400 patients. Most importantly, the gospel of Jesus Christ was shared with the Dominican people, and our team members were able to experience the true meaning of being the hands and feet of Christ. MID-YEAR ASSEMBLY April 18-22, 2015 ASSEMBLY OF SCHOOL FACULTY Union Nurse Anesthesia Faculty Attended ASF in New Orleans The Assembly of School Faculty is the only forum that brings nurse anesthesia educators from around the country together in one place to discuss the new and ongoing needs of faculty and the students they serve. Excellence Driven Christ-Centered Join us at this year's AANA Mid-Year Assembly. You'll learn more about the legislative issues affecting Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and how to advocate for our profession on Capitol Hill. In interactive workshops and sessions, you'll gain an understanding of the governmental and regulatory process, and be prepared and energized to meet with Senators, Representatives and their staff. The Mid-Year Assembly is open to all CRNAs and student registered nurse anesthetists interested in making change related to CRNA practice and professional advocacy. Register at aana.com. 3 The ANESTHESIA CIRCUIT Thanks to the emergence of internet-based tools and improved technologies, information sharing among sources and scholars around the globe is both immediate and extensive. Students are more apt to study out loud in small groups rather than alone at a table. At universities across the country, older facilities have been retrofitted for technology and group study rooms. Union University has a rare opportunity to build from the ground up a library tailored to 21stcentury specifications. The Latimer Foundation, our visionary lead donor, has committed half of the total cost (up to $11.5 million) toward this exciting building project. Approximately 700 other individuals and families have joined the giving effort. Many of these donors have been faithfully contributing each month on a regular basis. LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION We are now following up our initial fundraising efforts with a campaign to raise an estimated $3.5 million to open the doors of the Union University library.
