1 Job Description JOB INFORMATION JOB TITLE: Program Director OFFICE: Graduate Nurse Anesthesia LOCATION: SGPP Minneapolis JOB GRADE: JOB CATEGORY: Professional FLSA: Exempt REPORTS TO: School or Academic Dean DATE: Rev: 5/2014 JOB SUMMARY The Program Director provides leadership for the Graduate Program in Nurse Anesthesia program to ensure program vitality and academic quality by balancing administrative and academic functions. The Program Director works within a community of professionals dedicated to providing relevant, rigorous, and relational academic experiences for adult learners 1 Respectful interactions and functional coordination is expected among all members of the community in order to effectively manage the program. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The Program Director is accountable for overall program administration, faculty and curricular leadership, and professional development and university service activities. Program Administration Works with the professionals in the departments supporting marketing, student services, and budgeting and fiscal accountability and the Dean to: Facilitate the development of a multi-year marketing and visibility campaign Establish and monitor annual enrollment goals Ensure registration of accepted students Ensure that all students have an orientation to the program Monitor academic status of students (probation, leaves, retention, degree completion) Ensure a course schedule that accounts for student progression and appropriate class sizes Administer the summative activities for students completing the program including comprehensives examinations and dissertations Administer academic policies as documented in the SGPP Catalog & Handbook Represent the value of the program to others both inside and outside the university Maintain relationships in the community for the purpose of recruiting and marketing Forecast income and expenses, create multi-year budgets, and monitor program fiscal performance Ensure that all expenses are processed in an accurate, timely, and prudent manner Supervise a team of program staff including associated program director, clinical director, program coordinator, and faculty Ensures full compliance with the Standards, Guidelines, Policies and Procedures of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs 1
2 Job Description Faculty Leadership Works with the Academic Dean and Director of Faculty Development to: Recruit and hire qualified faculty using a variety of sources Maintain a roster of exceptional faculty Orient faculty to the program and university processes and mission Ensure that faculty are teaching from approved syllabi and using updated technology Conduct regular faculty meetings to promote coherence in curriculum implementation and sharing of best practices Provide ongoing support to faculty Evaluate faculty performance by reviewing student evaluations, observing classes, and monitoring professional and scholarly productivity Curriculum Leadership Works with the Associate Dean of Curriculum and Assessment and Dean to: Monitor the development and approval of all syllabi for all courses Conduct program reviews at least every three years Maintain curricular relevance through ongoing connections within the discipline/industry including formal advisory committees and various environmental scanning approaches Implement assessment of student learning initiatives including the leadership competency reviews and comprehensive examinations. Facilitate new instructional approaches such as the blended learning option Professional Development and University Service Works with Dean to: Maintain and enhance disciplinary expertise and scholarship Support and advance the university s Lasallian Catholic mission, heritage and charism Contribute to the governance structure of the SGPP by committee involvement Serve as evening administrator on the Twin Cities Campus Participate in school and university celebrations (commencements, convocations, campus events) Participate in university initiatives and taskforces Perform other duties, as assigned. ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND FUNCTIONS Must have strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Must demonstrate basic proficiency in office and educational technology. Must be able to prioritize. Must be able to effectively monitor and manage the area s budgets and enrollments. Must be able to create/maintain a team spirit among students, faculty, and colleagues. Must demonstrate professional decorum and ethical decision-making. Must have effective supervisory skills including performance management and hiring. Must have advanced expertise in research process and various methodologies. Must be able to travel regionally and nationally. The ability to edit documents for APA formatting is preferred. Understanding of the Lasallian charism preferred. 2
3 EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION RQUIREMENTS Doctoral degree is preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership position. Five years of academic administration experience preferred. Job Description Note: Program Directors may teach within the university with adjunct contracts not to exceed six credits in a 16 week semester. 4 Academic Director Graduate Program in Nurse Anesthesia Overview The Academic Director works with the Program Director to ensure that the academic curriculum is designed and implemented to address the stated outcomes of the graduate program. The Academic Director is responsible for preparing the student with the theory and principles essential to safe and effective practice as a CRNA. Experience and Education Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DNP) in nursing preferred, education, or a healthcare-related field. Master degree required. Experience developing curricula, mentoring faculty, and assessing learning in a higher educational setting is required. Experience working with adult students, the Microsoft software suite, instructional technology (such as Blackboard), and online instruction is preferred. The successful applicant must have excellent writing and strong organizational skills; be able to work in a team setting; and possess effective interpersonal skills including diplomacy and proactive problem solving. Responsibilities In collaboration with the Program Director, directs all aspects of the academic curriculum including: Maintains the relevancy of the curriculum through program review (including needs assessment/environmental scanning activities), curriculum design, assessment of student learning, and accreditation documentation. Evaluates the effectiveness of classroom teaching by observing and mentoring faculty. Works with Director of Instructional Technology in design of technology-enhanced and delivered course content and training of faculty. Conducts faculty meetings as scheduled by the Program Director. Coordinates the electronic testing of learning for academic courses, as required. Advises students throughout the academic portion of the program. Participates in the selection of students for admission. Participates in the leadership team (Program Director, Assistant/Clinical Director, Dean) of the program. Participates in the program governance committees (Academic and Clinical Evaluations Committees, Program Advisory Committee). Assists with reaccreditation processes and projects. Coordinates academic policy development and implementation within the nurse anesthesia program. Directs and/or participates in special projects, as assigned.

6 Director of Clinical Education Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia Revised 5/23/2011 Overview The Clinical Education Coordinator assists the Program Director in providing leadership and direction for the Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia program. He or she is responsible for coordination of the clinical component of the nurse anesthesia program. Education and Experience Professional Registered Nursing License, current certification as a Nurse Anesthetist, Master s degree or higher. Five years experience in nurse anesthesia required and two years experience in graduate teaching and advising in sciences suggested. Responsibilities Curriculum Develop a clinical curriculum model that supports the mission of the university and demonstrates congruency with the program s stated objectives. Implement the clinical curriculum including conferences and integration course work. Teach NA780 Clinical Integration. Review, approve, and revise course syllabi according to University policy. Recruit, recommend, orient, and evaluate clinical instructors according to University policy. Arrange and facilitate clinical conferences with students. Program Administration Maintain standards of clinical performance in accordance with institutional objectives; professional standards of practice; and regulatory and accreditation agency standards. Develop program-specific policies as necessary and according to University policy. Prepare and submit reports on program activities, as necessary. Assist in the ongoing evaluation model of the program, which will include review and assessment methodologies. Assist in the development of new courses and programs, and new policies and procedures, as needed. Create and monitor clinical schedules. Assist in preparing for the Program s accreditation process by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. Act as administrator in the program in the director s absence. Students/Faculty Oversee the clinical site coordinators and adjunct clinical faculty to manage the clinical education of students Coordinate and facilitate effective communication between students, adjunct clinical faculty, clinical site coordinators and clinical faculty. Receive, review and file student clinical evaluations and adjunct faculty reports. Receive, review and disseminate student feedback pertaining to clinical affiliate sites and clinical instructors.
7 Participate in student affairs such as orientation, advising and summative paper presentations. University Chair the Evaluations Committee, notify members of the Committee of students who are not meeting clinical performance objectives and make recommendations based on the feedback of the Committee. Participate in University affairs such as faculty development activities, University committees, accreditation visits, and commencement. Participate and contribute to the University mission by demonstrating a commitment to the Lasallian philosophy. Attend program faculty meetings, faculty workshops, university and program committees as needed and other meetings as required. Serve as evening administrator. Perform other duties, as assigned. Revised 3/2015 Position Purpose The clinical coordinator oversees the clinical education of anesthesia students with the goal of educating the students to provide competent and appropriate care for patients. This person also acts as a liaison to facilitate communication between the university, anesthesia staff, and hospital. Qualifications/Education: Completion of a program in nurse anesthesia, at least l year of experience practicing as a nurse anesthetist, professional licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), current certification/recertification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Skills and Abilities Required: Problem solving ability, communication skills, current knowledge of the art and science of anesthesia; ability to evaluate student performance, ability to act as a liaison between student and anesthesia staff, ability to maintain strict confidentiality of student related matters. Major Challenges: Provide students with opportunities to participate in clinical experiences in accordance with their learning goals, feedback from the clinical director, and the semester s clinical objectives. Provide feedback to students, instructors and the clinical director in a timely fashion. Provide a written evaluation of the student s performance to the nurse anesthesia program at the end of the clinical rotation. Follow and evaluate the student progress throughout their clinical rotation. Assist the nurse anesthesia program director and clinical director in the on-going development, implementation, and evaluation of the clinical curriculum. Work with the clinical director to receive and disseminate student feedback collected by the university. Work with the clinical director to determine the learning needs of the anesthesia staff and help to provide indicated materials or activities. Assist in problem solving activities between the students, staff and the nurse anesthesia program and alert the clinical director of any issues or problems that arise with students or staff. Maintain standards of practice in accordance to institutional policies and procedures; professional standards of practice; regulatory and accreditation agency standards.

Participate in the evaluation of the anesthesia program. 8. Provide daily performance evaluations for assigned students. 9. Provide feedback to students in a timely fashion.
