Marketing the VISION Presented by: NC AHEC VISION NC AHEC Statewide Meeting Pinehurst Resort 2/17/2006
NC AHEC VISION North Carolina AHEC Video Interactive Statewide Instructional Online Network
NC AHEC VISION Genesis at the NC TeleHealth Summit in October 2004 Educational Sub-group was primarily AHEC representation Critical mass where every regional AHEC had video conferencing capabilities on site Agreed to continue meeting with the goal of developing a resource for the NC AHEC Program
NC AHEC VISION Barriers to video conferencing / distance learning Scheduling Developed a scheduling service at NW AHEC, consistent cost structure Technical / support Extensive technical testing, centralized bridging service at MAHEC, consistent level of support at each regional AHEC Efficacy Developed educational material, web site:
The VISION Service Video conference resource available at each regional AHEC Identified VISION contact at each AHEC For any video conference at 3 or more regional AHECs
The VISION Service Consistent pricing structure: $30 per site scheduling fee Per hour per site fee: AHEC use $50 Non-profit Health $100 For-profit Health $150 Covers all actual expenses and has potential to build revenue for VISION capitol improvements
Pricing Example 2 hour AHEC sponsored educational session 4 regional AHECs Scheduling fee: $30 x 4 = $120 Per hour (2 x $50) $100 x 4 = $400 Total $520
Consolidated Billing Service NW AHEC invoices for all VISION events 3 invoicing scenarios 1 AHEC billed for all VISION charges VISION charges split among all participating regional AHECs 1 external client billed for all VISION charges Invoice will come to the regional AHEC VISION contact
Marketing the VISION Similar to Telephone Conference Service: The NC AHEC VISION should be considered a value-added added service to support a disciplinary or administrative mission and requires leadership from, as well as cooperation with, non-vision staff. Model Usages for Consideration Include: 1. Staff Communications or Development 2. Service to External NC HealthCare Organizations 3. Component of Multi-AHEC Educational Offerings
Staff Communications or Development Offers higher level of participant engagement than telephone conference call Especially relevant for communications benefiting from visual components as well as interactivity If used for development, travel costs for recognized leader likely more than videocast from home site Travel or development funds of participating staff at AHECs are used, and Costs for participation are evenly distributed
Staff Communications or Development Request Availability Info Assess Availability Availability Info Confirmation Confirmation Availability Info Assess Availability Confirmation Local Confirmations
Staff Communications or Development Central VISION Billing Local VISION Reps Local Staff / AP Invoice $30/site + $50/hr/AHEC Travel or Development Funds Local Costs Budgeted Development or Travel Funds Connectivity Costs Profit Fund for Strategic Enhancement
Service to External NC HealthCare Organizations Videoconferencing requested as utility to support HealthCare Partner Communication, typically through disciplinary or administrative staff Hourly rate depends on Non-Profit or For-Profit Registration fee may be added by local AHEC to cover Non-IT Staff Time, Food Service, Etc. Affected discipline and local AHEC uses opportunity to promote to captive audience Both VISION & Discipline/Administrative person lead Videoconference Costs Paid by HealthCare Org.
Request Availability Info Confirmation Availability Info Assess Availability Confirmation Request Availability Info Confirmation Availability Info Assess Availability Confirmation Local Confirmations
Service to External NC HealthCare Organizations Central VISION Billing Invoice $30/site + $100/hr/AHEC Payment Local Costs Local VISION Reps Connectivity Costs Profit Fund for Strategic Enhancement
Component of Multi-AHEC Educational Offerings CASE A: Distributed Funding example: Frequently offered programs with limited, centralized faculty potentially maximize reach vs. travel cost ratio Programs simultaneous at multiple locations, with or without local component, but minimally with facilitation Videoconferencing cost is considered an overhead expense and is covered by local registration fees Inception and cash flow very similar to model for: Staff Communications and Development
Component of Multi-AHEC Educational Offerings CASE B: Centralized Funding example: Grant supported initiative can access nationally recognized expert on breaking issues, potentially even from his/her local videoconferencing facility Programs simultaneous offered at multiple locations, with or without local component for maximum reach vs. time ratio Videoconferencing cost are covered by grant holder, but local registration fees may be added Inception and cash flow very similar to model for: Service to External NC HealthCare Organizations
