The SaaS Module allows providers to provision applications packaged in the draft APS 1.1 format in the shared or dedicated environment. In the former case applications are provisioned on the shared web/database servers, in the latter case applications are provisioned on a dedicated VPS. 6 6 Parallels Operations Automation 2.8 Parallels Brute-Force Attack Protection Added In order to protect against the brute force attacks, the POA 2.8 allows to temporary lock a user account after several sequential failed login attempts. The behavior can be fine-tuned with the following options: The number of sequential failed login attempts after which POA locks the user. The time period during which the system counts login failures from the user s IP address(es). The length of the temporary lock-out period. It is also possible to view the list of locked users and the history of all lock-out events, and to unlock users. Support of Secure64 DNS POA 2.8 allows a Provider to manage their Secure64 DNS servers directly from POA CP. For more information on Secure64 DNS, visit the Secure64 official website at POA 2.8 Secure64 DNS Plugin guide. Null DNS Plug-in Null DNS Plug-in is a new plug-in supported by POA 2.8. The plug-in makes possible to create master DNS zones and resource records in these zones without physical synchronization with the name server made by POA. Physical synchronization with the name servers is performed later by the external systems. DNS zones and records are stored in the POA system database, but POA does not physically provision them to DNS servers. External system takes DNS zones and records from POA system database for provisioning them on DNS servers. Parallels Operations Automation 2.8 Null DNS Plug-in guide Load-Balanced Deployment of POA UI Servers on Windows POA 2.8 UI can be deployed on a Windows cluster using Windows Network Load Balancing (NLB) clustering technology. This will allow their Customers to run PHP scripts encoded with ioncube Loader (solution that protects PHP source code from unauthorized reading and modification) on their IIS websites. Note, that ASP.NET 3.5 would replace ASP.NET 2.0 since the runtime is backwardcompatible, so the applications targeted for both ASP.NET versions can co-exist within the same Webspace. POA 2.8 Deployment Guide > Deploying Linux-based Database Hosting Linux Mail Hosting LDAP Server Replica Support for Qmail Servers POA 2.8 simplifies registration of the LDAP server replicas for QMail. The replica servers improve the system fault tolerance, so the QMail automatically switches to a replica whenever the primary LDAP server goes down. In previous versions of POA this feature required manual adjustments to the QMail configuration files. POA 2.8 provides the GUI for managing the list of LDAP server replicas in Provider s Control Panel. The transition procedure implements the so-called 'co-existence' scenario. It means that Exchange 2007 and HMC 4.0 are deployed into the same Active Directory domain as Exchange 2003 and HMC 3.5. Both Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 function at the same time and hosted organizations are moved from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 gradually. POA 2.8 Deployment Guide > Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 Transition Provisioning All Mailboxes of Subscription to the Same Mail Store POA 2.8 features a new activation parameter "Provisioning mailbox of a subscription to the same mail store" for Hosted Exchange resource, with possible values of 0 and 1. Setting this parameter to 1 forces the system to select for a new mailbox the same mail store as for a previously provisioned mailbox within the same Subscription. Note, that this does not imply automated migration of already provisioned mailboxes to a new store. At the end of each month POA generates the report on the number of Hosted CRM users registered in the system. Provider sends the reported numbers to Microsoft to be properly charged according to the SPLA. They can also create and run VPSes based on the Windows Server 2003 Datacenter OS template on such nodes. 16 C H A P T E R 2 Functional Changes POA Agent VPS Removed In the previous versions of POA the Agent VPS have been used to perform the management tasks for VPS Hardware Node. Starting with version 2.8, POA manages VPS Hardware Node directly, and POA Agent VPS is not longer supported. This improvement has been achieved by keeping the LDAP server connection open and reusing it for the subsequent requests.

17 Functional Changes 17 Note, that LDAP server can drop a connection in case it is idle for too long and prevent this feature from being effectively used. Therefore providers are recommended to configure their LDAP servers so the idle timeout is not less than 60 seconds. OpenLDAP instances shipped with the POA 2.8 are configured with infinite timeout by default. In case the imp.dns_resolve property of the IMP Webmail Client is set to true, it will resolve the 'domain' part of a user login name against the DNS for the responsible mail servers and use them for IMAP/SMTP mail processing. Note, that this works under assumption that the user IMAP mailboxes are located on the same server as registered in MX record. MySQL 5 support was added. Support of Localized Versions of Windows for VPS Hosting POA 2.8 supports localized versions of Windows (i.e. Windows in languages other than English) in VPS. It is also possible to import existing VPS with localized version of Windows into POA.

User-Defined Language Display Names POA 2.8 allows customizing the Language display names - the names under which the languages are displayed for selection at the POA login screen. Improved Behavior of PHP, Sendmail and Form Mail (ID) In POA 2.8 the sendmail_from parameter in the PHP configuration file php.ini is now set to null by default on Windows hosts. In case of delivery failure, the s sent as a result of filling web forms on sites are returned to senders (to the addresses specified in the From field on the form), instead of bouncing to the address specified in the php.ini file.

19 Functional Changes 19 Ability to Deactivate Plesk Sitebuilder Branding After a Plesk Sitebuilder server is registered in POA, the system automatically creates a reseller account in Plesk Sitebuilder for each newly created brand. Formerly, when deleting a Plesk Sitebuilder from POA, this was an obstacle - POA produced an exception since there were Plesk Sitebuilder users registered on the server. Now it is possible to deactivate Plesk Sitebuilder branding for all brands registered in POA, in case the brands' owners have no underlying customer Subscriptions with Plesk Sitebuilder included. After that you can successfully delete a Plesk Sitebuilder server. Note: The default MIME types are those that are configured on new IIS websites by default. 21 Functional Changes 21 Setting Resource Type Limits in Subscriptions In POA 2.8 it is no longer possible to set limit on a resource in a Subscription lower than the current usage (except cases when new limit is 0). Starting with POA 2.8 the log files are stored in the same Logs folder, but a separate log file is created for each website with the name svc<site_id>_ex<date>.log, where: <site_id> is the website identifier in the IIS metabase. <date> is the time stamp of the log file in format YYMMDD. For monthly cycles the <date> value is specified in a format YYMM. This limit is set systemwide and applies to all VPS Hardware Nodes registered in POA. When the limit on simultaneous operations is reached, further backup/restore tasks initiated from the VPS Hardware Node are queued. It is strongly recommended to leave this parameter in its default value (1).
