1 Double Degree Master Water Coastal Welcome! Managing water resources, river catchments, coastal zones are outsting challenges today tomorrow! Global changes ask for a comprehensive scientific approach, an international multidisciplinary orientation require a new mind-set towards water coastal management problems. In response to these contemporary challenges to provide an inspiring atmosphere for the extraordinary development an academic pressional career, we designed our unique Double Degree Master (DDM) program Water Coastal, merging the strongest expertise the two partneruniversities, the University Groningen (the Netherls) Carlvon-Ossietzky-University Oldenburg (Germany). Taught by outsting experts, highly conversant with environmental, socioeconomic spatial sciences, our Double Degree Master Science program Water Coastal will prepare you for managing the water coastal resources future societies in a sustainable way. The University Oldenburg gives you the opportunity to learn about the marine environment to study sustainable management; the University Groningen fers its outsting knowledge on spatial science, in particular water management environmental infrastructure planning. The ability to integrate both makes the successful student an expert in water coastal management!

4 Enrolment If you have decided to study in this program, you have to enroll before the 15 th July each year. The program only starts in autumn in Oldenburg (winter term) (For students wishing to enroll in February it is possible upon request to adapt the program to start the DDM with half a term in Groningen after which the student would continue the studies in Oldenburg finish with another half a term in Groningen). This master-program is nonconsecutive meaning you need no special bachelor degree to enroll but you should be able to motivate your choice explain your interest in the program. In addition, your average grade from the bachelor studies should be no lower than 2.5 (German grading system). For more information on enrolment see: Zugangsordnung document ( (German only). The fees in Groningen: The fee is 1835 (for year 2013/2014) It is paid once a year. 2. The fees in Oldenburg are different. Semester fee is 314,20 (for winter term 2014/2015) this includes the semester ticket administrative costs. The fees have to be paid each semester. 5 Academic year time-planning Oldenburg At German universities, the academic year is divided into two terms: Wintersemester Sommersemester. The winter term begins ficially on October 1 ends on March 31. The summer term begins on April 1 ends on September 30. However, the lecture period only runs from mid-october until mid-february from mid-april until the middle/end July. The remaining time, the so-called vorlesungsfreie Zeit, is intended for writing papers, preparing exams, excursions or for internships. etc. Groningen The academic year in Groningen comprises two semesters, each consisting two periods. The first semester runs from the first Monday September until the last Friday January; the second semester starts the following Monday ends on the second Friday July. Lectures classes are taught during these periods, although these dates may differ slightly for some faculties. Students should confirm the dates with their study coordinator. Research The DDM Water Coastal program is closely connected to the research agenda the Department Spatial Environment, more specifically to the agenda the research group Coastal Resilience. Career The double Master Science degree in Water Coastal opens many doors. You will be prepared to work in public organizations that are directly or indirectly responsible for water management /or the management coastal resources, i.e. national, regional local authorities. Furthermore your educational background will be suitable for finding a job at various governmental non-governmental agencies that have special responsibilities for the coastal area /or water management. In addition, consultancy firms with different specializations /or research institutes will be interested in a student who has completed this ambitious double degree program.
