1 CIHR Foundation Webinar November 26, 2013 CIHR has given applicants who are eligible to the foundation pilot the option of extending their end date on their current open grant. If they decide to extend their end date, will this nullify their eligibility to the Pilot? Yes? if we extend end-date of current OG, can we apply to transitional OG competition? Current OG rules apply? No, you can t apply to the Transitional OG if you renew/extend your current OG (the one that makes you eligible for the pilot), but you could submit a new (resubmission) grant to the Transitional OG competition? from Nancy Mcneil to All Participants: Are signatures required even though the application will be submitted through ResearchNet? Will review budget for appropriateness, but it s not part of scientific/weighted review what will be range of budget allowed for Foundation proposals? $50K to $1.5M, based on historical data; will depend on application pressure and (appropriate) budget requests a foundation application with multiple leaders - who/which institution holds the funds?

Fdn represents entire pgm of research; so any existing Open grants will rolled into a successful Fdn grant; researchers should ask for enough $ to cover their entire program of research; CIHR will likely terminate existing individual Open budgets and provide researchers with one budget; everything will roll in Quand les autres programmes ouverts seront abolis. There is concern about the small window between the Stage 1 decision and the Stage 2 deadline (which occurs over the Christmas holidays) for researchers to develop their Stage 2 application and for institutions to provide them with support. Can you comment on this please? CIHR is conscious of this; their goal is to ensure at least an 8 week window; they will also open the application form and requirements early; CIHR will survey people about the timeline; CIHR welcomes feedback on this matter from Nancy Mcneil to All Participants: Stage 2 Foundation applicants are invited to apply between 1 DEC 2014 to 5 FEB Will the invited applicant be given a specific date to apply by, or, is it an application date range? 5 Yes, CIHR will make sure all updates are clear and widely communicated; typically, CIHR summarizes updates in red text; they will make obvious the changes/updates and broadly circulate correspondence Can you provide any more detail about the $500M budget for Fall Transitional OOG? For example, the current budget for a March or September OOG is ~$240M which funds ~400 grants. In the Transitional OOG, CIHR indicates funding grants. I m confused by the math. The $500M budget for Fall Transitional OOG will be spread across these 2 competitions based on actual application pressures; the proposed range of funded grants for each competition represents a reasonable estimation based on CIHR modeling of historical data If someone is eligible to foundation and decides not to submit, can they apply to foundation Contact CIHR to discuss specific situation re: shared budget for transitional oogp and foundation - will you aim for similar succes rate across the two programs in deciding how much to fund in each?
