One term is 20 weeks and worth 30 credits. One week of fulltime studies corresponds to 1.5 credits (ECTS) Full-time studies constitute roughly a 40 hours working week. The courses vary in length, generally between 7.5 and 30 credits. You can register for up to 45 credits per semester. If you would like to study between credits, you need to hand in an application. 6 COURSES AND CREDITS The extent and disposition of the instructions provided varies from one course to another. Technical courses usually have a higher proportion of scheduled hours GRADING SCALES Grading scale no 1: Fail (U=Underkänd) Pass (G=Godkänd) Pass with distinction (VG=Väl godkänd) Grading scale no 2: Fail (U=Underkänd) Pass (G=Godkänd) Courses in behavioral sciences and humanities encompass hours a week. High level of independent studies Grading scale no 3: Fail, 3, 4, 5 ECTS-grading scale no 4: (only offered in certain courses) A, B, C, D, E, F or Fx Exchange students should notify the teacher that they need this grading scale. Bild 21 UNI V E R S I T Y O F S K Ö V D E I NS T I T U T I O N / E N H E T Bild 22 COURSE LITERATURE FORM OF STUDY The required reading (course literature) is extensive Attendance in lectures is higly recommended, but not always compulsory Students have to buy the books themselves. 45 minutes classes followed by 15 minutes break All literature is also available in the library. Library copies are limited. Teachers also prepare and hand out their own compendia. Lectures are given to both smaller and larger groups and students are encouraged to ask questions. You are expected to have presentations in most courses and group projects. Wait until the course introduction before you buy the books. 7 CONTACT W ITH UNIVERSITY STAFF STUDENTPORTALEN The relationship between staff and students at Swedish universities is generally more informal than many other countries. You call the teachers and university staff by their first name. Bild 25 Bild 26 COURSE REGISTRATION COURSE SCHEDULES Web based course registration through Courses can be added and dropped during the two first weeks of the semester. Courses starting the second period of the semester can be added until the course begins. The schedules are not fixed for the whole semester. Remember to check your schedule every week. You are not allowed to drop a course if you have started a group project. You might have to drop or change courses if the time schedules for the course are colliding. Bild 27 Bild 28 7

Print out the application form and sign it. Collect the access card at the Repro centre in the A-building first floor. Then you can register your access card in the printer system. The access card is personal. No code or card are allowed to be handed out to someone else. To be returned to the Repro centre before your departure. Bild 31 Bild 32 8

10 RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR EU- CITIZENS Students from these countries already have their cards! Apply online to register right of residence Make sure you have scanned copies of these documents: Passport Letter of acceptance European Health Insurance Card Bild 37 Bild 38 RESIDENCE PERMIT CARDS RESIDENCE PERMIT CARDS Always bring your residence permit card in contact with authorities and health care. More information: _en.html The card features a microchip that contains your fingerprints and photograph. If you do not require a visa to travel to Sweden, you will be photographed and fingerprinted in Sweden. You should visit an office of the Swedish Migration Board as soon as possible after you have received a residence permit and have arrived in Sweden. You need to schedule an appointment before visiting the Migration Board if you are going to have your fingerprints and photograph taken. Your card will be sent to your home within a week.
