A B S T R A C T: Identification and verification of a person today is a common thing; which may include door-lock system, safe box and vehicle control or even at accessing bank accounts via ATM, etc which is necessary for securing personal information. The conventional methods like ID card verification or signature does not provide perfection and reliability. The systems employed at these places must be fast enough and robust too. Use of the ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) which provides customers with the convenient banknote trading is facing a new challenge to carry on the valid identity to the customer. Since, in conventional identification methods with ATM, criminal cases are increasing making financial losses to customers. Authors design a simple fingerprint recognition system using LPC2148 as a core controller. The system uses FIM3030 fingerprint scanner to capture fingerprints with its DSP processor and optical sensor. This system can be employed at any application with enhanced security because of the uniqueness of fingerprints. It is convenient due to its low power requirement and portability. The main objective of this system is to develop a system that will increase the ATM security. Keywords ATM Terminal, Finger Print Recognition, Biometric Verification, PIN I. INTRODUCTION The existing self banking system has got very high popularity with 24 hours service. Use of ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) is helpful for money transaction. ATM is activated by placing the card, then entering the pin number of the particular card. But this system is not safe to use because anybody can access the system if they have the card and pin number like we share our card and pin number to our friends who may miss use it. This is the main disadvantage of existing system. Traditional ATM systems authenticate the method has some defects. Using ATM card and password cannot verify client s identity exactly. In recent years, the algorithm that the fingerprint recognition continuously updated, which has offered new verification means for us, the original password authentication method combined with the biometric identification technology verify the users identity better and achieve the purpose that use of ATM machines improve the safety. A customer will be required to enter a login id and validate his finger print and both will be sent to the bank for validation as part of each transaction. This makes the developed ATM software more secure as compare to the software that authenticates the user merely by using a PIN or password. Fingerprint technology is the most widely accepted and mature biometric method and is the easiest to deploy and for a higher level of security at your fingertips. It is simple to install and also it takes little time and effort to acquire one s fingerprint with a fingerprint identification device. Thus, fingerprint recognition is considered among the least intrusive of all biometric verification techniques [4] In the proposed system we are trying to remove disadvantages of existing system. 2 II. HARDWARE ARCHITECTURE A. Component used 1. LPC2148 Features 8/16/32 kb of on-chip static RAM and 32/64/128/256/512 kb of on-chip flash program memory. 8-channel 10-bit ADCs provide a total of up to 16 analog inputs. Single 10-bit D/A converter provides variable analogue output. Two 32-bit timers/external event counters(with 4 capture abd 4 compare channels each), PWM 2. LCD Features unit(6 outputs) and watchdog. Built in controller. Maximum input voltage :5.3VDC Operating output voltage:5vdc 8 bit interface data bus. 3. FINGERPRINT MODULE: Feature FIM3030 is more compact and reduced in dimensions. serial interface, 100 user capacity. 4. RFID READER Feature Transmit the wireless signal at 125 KHz. Operates on 5v, 10cm radius 26 bit data frame. 5. GSM Features GSM is the most widely used of the three digital wireless telephony technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA). GSM digitizes and compresses data, then sends it down a channel with two other streams of user data, each in its own time slot. It operates at either the 900 MHz or 1800 MHz frequency band , IJAFRSE All Rights Reserved

Fingerprint Module FIM Module series has functions of fingerprint enrolment, identification, partial and entire deletion and reset in a single board, it does not require connection with separate PC, thereby offering convenient development environment. B. Power Supply Power supplies are essential for testing and implementation of any useful electronic circuit. If power supplies are not available then the only way to provide power to the circuit is battery. C. Keypad Matrix The keypad is also standard 4x4matrix which has 8 pin connector. D. RFID Reader RFID reader is interfaced with the microcontroller. RFID reader works on weigand protocol and transmit the wireless signal at 125 KHz. RFID reader have two data line i.e. DATA0 and DATA1. E. Microcontroller The system uses LPC2148 from ARM7 family. It is the core controller in the system. It has ARM7TDMI core which is a member of the Advanced RISC Machines (ARM) a family of general purpose 32-bit microprocessors. It offers high performance for very low power consumption and price. The ARM architecture is based on RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) principles, and the instruction set and related decode mechanism are much simpler than those of micro-programmed Complex Instruction Set Computers (CISC) [26]. This simplicity results in a high instruction throughput and impressive real-time interrupt response from a small and cost-effective chip. All parts of the processing and memory systems can operate continuously since, pipelining is employed. Typically, while one instruction is being executed, its successor is being decoded, and a third instruction is being fetched from memory [27]. The ARM memory interface has been designed to allow the performance potential to be realized without incurring high costs in the memory system. 4 functions to be implemented in standard low-power logic, and these control signals facilitate the exploitation of the fast local access modes offered by industry standard dynamic RAMs [28]. The LPC2148 is interfaced to different modules via GPIO (General Purpose I/O) pins. It receives the fingerprint template produced by the fingerprint module. It will match the same with the reference template stored at installation of the system. If the received template gets matched with the reference one, the person is allowed to access the further system. In case of successive mismatch of templates, the system will initialize the GSM module to send message to the enrolled user and simultaneously will raise the alarm through buzzer. We have used LPC2148 from NXP semiconductors (founded by Philips). It shows features as follows- a) 16/32-bit ARM7TDMI-S microcontroller in a tiny LQFP64 package. b) 240 kb of on-chip static RAM and 512 kb of on-chip flash program memory. c) In-System/In-Application Programming (ISP/IAP) via on-chip boot-loader software. d) Two 10-bit A/D converters provide a total of 14 analog inputs, with conversion times as low as 2.44 μs per channel. e) Single 10-bit D/A converter provide variable analog output. F. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) LCD which indicates 16 columns and 2 rows is used. So, we can write 16 characters in each line. So, total 32 characters we can display on 16x2 LCD. G.MAX 232 MAX 232 IC is a driver IC to convert the µc TTL logic (0-5) to the RS 232 logic (+-9v).Many device today work on RS 232 logic such as PC, GSM modem, GPS etc. H.GSM Modem GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) is a digital mobile telephony system. With the help of GSM module interfaced, we can send short text messages to the required authorities as per the application. GSM modules are provided by SIM uses the mobile service provider and send SMS to the respective authorities as programmed. This technology enables the system a wireless system with no specified range that the implementation of ATM security by using fingerprint recognition and GSM MODEM took advantages of the stability and reliability of fingerprint characteristics. tells that the whole system was build on the technology of embedded system which makes the system more safe, reliable and easy to use. ADVANTAGES: 1) Illegal transactions are avoided. 2) Highly efficient and reliable. 3) Less expensive. 4) Quick response time. 5) Fully automate system. 6) Low power requirement. 7) Flexible, easy to manipulate. 8) To reduce ATM skimming. VI. APPLICATIONS: 1) The fingerprint based identification can be used in Credit card security 2) Government agencies. 3) Companies and Industries. 4) Military. VII. CONCLUSION: The Implementation of ATM security by using fingerprint recognition and GSM MODEM took advantages of the stability and reliability of fingerprint characteristics. Additional, the system also contains the original verifying methods which were inputting owner's password which is send by the controller. The security features were enhanced largely for the stability and reliability of owner recognition. The whole system will be built on the technology of embedded system which makes the system more safe, reliable and easy to use. VIII.
