4 REGISTRATION Registration of Participants and Admission to Meetings The XIII UN Roundtable on Communication for Development will be held in the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy from 16 to 18 September On the first day of each meeting, participants are requested to use the Visitor Entrance (the wooden cottage), near the metro exit where they will have to pass through security check (X-ray) before accessing Building A. They will be requested to exhibit their ID document (passport, or driving licence, or ID card) to be identified, so that guards can cross-check their names in the list of pre-registered participants. After the security check, participants will be informed by the guards where they should proceed to reach the Flag hall where they will receive a badge and background documents, after cross-checking and signing the registration form. The registration desk will be open on Monday, 15 September 2014 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Tuesday, 16 September 2014 at 8.00 a.m. at the Flag room (ground floor building B). Lost Building Passes should be reported without delay to the FAO Security Office. The following rooms have been put at the disposal of the participants. Meetings will take place in the different rooms according to the agenda. 4
5 GENERAL FAO HEADQUARTERS INFORMATION FAO Headquarters is located on Viale delle Terme di Caracalla, in front of the Circo Massimo. It can be reached by car, bus, tram and metro line B (Circo Massimo stop). A) Taxis - Participants are advised to use only licensed taxis with meters. Surcharges are added for baggage, night runs, Sundays and holidays. The Main Reception (Ground Floor, Building A) will assist participants to request taxis. Participants can also call Radio Taxi Service (Tel or ). Upon calling, the taxi company operator will ask for the caller s telephone number and will give the caller the taxi s identification number (which will be marked on both sides of the car), as well as the estimated time it will take to reach the caller. Upon arrival in Rome, at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (also known as Fiumicino Airport), you can take near exits A, B and C, there is a taxi service for Rome. The cost of the taxi service is 48 euro, inclusive of luggage, for a maximum of four passengers, for all destinations within the Aurelian Walls delimiting the central area of the city. The cost of the service is the same for the opposite direction also, going from Rome to Fiumicino. For destinations outside of the central area of the city, the cost will be indicated by the taximeter, to which the luggage fee must be added. Also from Fiumicino airport, regular trains leave every thirty minutes and fifteen minutes respectively. They take about half an hour and they run from around 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. B) Access and Facilities for Disabled Persons - All entrances at FAO Headquarters are accessible to disabled persons with wheelchairs. A lift is provided in Building A, and a ramp is provided in Building D. Most lifts at FAO Headquarters have wheelchair access. Restroom facilities for disabled visitors are located in Building A on the ground, first and third floors near the meeting rooms. C) Snack Bars and Vending Machines - There are a variety of opportunities at FAO Headquarters for grabbing a coffee and a quick snack as well as 5
6 enjoying a full meal. There are four cafés (bars) located throughout Headquarters, a restaurant and cafeteria on the 8th floor as well as catering options for providing refreshments for official receptions. Bar A, also known as Delegates or Polish Bar, is on the ground floor of Building A. Its hours of operation are 7.30 to and to hours. Bar B found on the 8th floor of Building B operating from the hours of 9.00 to hours. Bar C is on the 8th floor of Building C and is open from 7.30 to and to hours. Bar D or Casa Bar is located on the ground floor of Building D and is open from 7.30 to hours. D) Telephone, Telefax - The telephone number of FAO Headquarters is extension. If the extension is not known, dial for the FAO switchboard operator. Telephones are available in all meeting rooms and lounges and may be used for internal and local calls. For internal calls, dial the required extension. For local (Rome) calls, press 0 and wait for the external dial tone, then dial the desired telephone number (City code 06 ). Telephones for internal or Rome calls are also located at the entrance to Building A and in the corridors of the first and third floors of Building A. Cellular phones should be switched off in meeting rooms. Public Skype stations are available in the Estonian Contact Centre next to the Flag Hall (Building B, Ground Floor). E) Internet Point - This service point is available for participants in the David Lubin Library, located on the ground floor of Building A, Room A.022bis.A. The computers in this area allow access to the FAO Web site, the Internet in general and personal accounts. F) WiFi Coverage - FAO offers WiFi coverage in the main Meeting Rooms (Red and Green Rooms), as well as the Atrium, Cuba Room, David Lubin Library, Korean Lounge, Nordic Lounge, German Room, Pakistan Room, Gabon 6
7 Room, Mexico Room, Philippines Room, UEMOA Meeting Room, Slovak Business Centre. Participants with a laptop or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) which has Wireless Local Area Network (LAN) capabilities, conforming to the b or g standards, may use this free service. There are three steps to take in order to connect to the service: Step 1: Turning on laptop or PDA, while in one of the WiFi areas. Step 2: Allowing laptop or PDA to detect the network guest_internet. Step 3: Opening a browser and trying to connect to an Internet site. The User name is: Visitor and password: wifi2internet No support can be provided if problems arise when connecting to, or using, the wireless internet service. Computers with internet connection are also available in the Library and the Slovak Centre (Meeting Secretariat) G) Banks The Banca Intesa San Paolo, located on the Ground Floor, Building B, is open from 08:35 hours to 16:35 hours. Cash dispensers (ATM) for credit card withdrawals are located at the entrance of the Bank and Post Office. The Banca Popolare di Sondrio, located on the ground floor of building D (D016), is open from 8:30 to 16:00 hours. In addition to the banks, the Italian Post Office located next to the Banca Intesa San Paolo also processes postal/money orders. H) Postal Services The Italian Post Office, located on the Ground Floor, Building B, is open Monday to Friday, from hours to hours. The DHL Courier Service Office is located in C005 and is available for private and official dispatches from hours to hours and from hours to hours, Monday through Friday. Call the Mail and Pouch Service at extension for information and rates (Tel ). Participants who wish to send documents back to their countries may do so using these services. I) Newsstand The Newsstand is located on the Ground Floor of Building B near the Banca Intesa San Paolo, and offers international newspapers and magazines, as well as postcards, maps, and a large selection of periodicals. 7

J) Bookshop Offers a selection of English, French and Spanish language books, gift stationery, writing paper, gift wrapping paper, greeting cards and guide books. The Bookshop is open from hours to hours. For more information, dial extension (Tel ). K) Medical Services - The Medical Service provides emergency medical assistance in FAO to participants at meetings. For medical emergencies, dial 30 from all in-house telephones. For all other medical services, call extension from in-house telephones ( from outside FAO Headquarters). L) Security: The FAO Security Office operates from hours to 17.30: contact the Security Guards in Building A (extension 53145, from outside FAO Headquarters). The Security Office: receives official telephone calls requiring follow-up action after normal working hours; assists in locating and notifying the Organization s senior officials in an emergency; liaises with national security representatives regarding security arrangements for dignitaries; liaises with local authorities whenever outside emergency assistance is required (e.g. ambulance, medical, police); handles lost and found properties. Strict security measures are observed at the FAO Headquarters. Participants are requested to wear their Building Passes at all times. Participants are advised not to leave briefcases or any valuable items unattended in conference rooms. M) Library: The David Lubin Memorial Library of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) boasts a remarkable number of works on agriculture, food and nutrition, rural development and other related topics. Reference librarians are available to assist with research and reference questions from 8:30 until 5:00, Monday through Friday. Telephone reference: , Monday - Friday, 8:30-5:00. 9 GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE CITY OF ROME A) Public transportation (in Rome) Tickets for public transport should be purchased in advance and are available from underground stations, tabacchi shops and newspaper kiosks as well as from the Newsstand at FAO Headquarters (Ground Floor, Building B, across from the Banca Intesa San Paolo). Tickets cost 1,50 Euro, and may be used once for underground transport and unlimited bus/tram travel within the ticket validation time of 75 minutes. Tickets are validated upon entering bus/tram or at the point of entrance to the Metro. Day tickets valid for the entire bus/tram and metro network can also be purchased. The public buses in Rome are managed by the Azienda per i Trasporti Autoferrotranviari del Comune di Roma (ATAC). Tickets should be purchased in advance and immediately validated in one of the machines in the bus or tram. There are three underground lines in Rome: Line A and Line B and B1. The stops are marked by a red and white M sign. Termini Station is the only Metro station where the two lines intersect. The Metro stop for FAO is Circo Massimo (Line B). 9
10 Rome Subway Map: B) Currency and credit cards - The official currency is the Euro ( ). It is not possible to pay in other currencies but there are plenty of ATM / cash machines to withdraw money. In addition most of the restaurants and shops in Rome accept credit cards (but check to be sure). 10
11 C) Time zones - Rome is GMT + 1, plus 1 hour for daylight saving time. D) Electricity supply - Italy has a 220 volts electricity supply, the sockets are 3 round pins in a row. E) Mobile phones - There are four mobile phone GSM operators active in Italy: TIM, Vodafone, Wind and 3. They operate on the 900/1800 MHz bands. Participants can check with their home country provider whether roaming is available with one or more of the operators mentioned above. F) Shopping - Shops in Italy are usually open from 9:00 to 13:00 hours and from 15:30 to 19:30 hours. However, many of the shops in the downtown area also remain open during the lunch break. G) Pickpockets - Participants are advised to carry their valuables in a safe place, especially on public transport. Although Rome is a safe city, there might be pickpockets on the street, the underground and on buses and trams, in particular in touristic areas. Once participants have checked into their hotels, it is advisable to leave valuables in the hotel safe. Identity cards, keepsakes and anything else not needed in the city are best left at the hotel or place of residence. H) Insurance - Participants should ensure that they have appropriate and sufficient medical and travel insurance.
