Portfolio of products Customer-oriented, durable quality products The importance of quality About Schleifenbauer The name Schleifenbauer has been synonymous with intelligent PDUs for data centres since In 2008 Schleifenbauer Products took over the manufacturing and development, and R&D and manufacturing take place in the Netherlands. The personnel complement is kept deliberately small by contracting out as much as possible to strategic contract partners, each of which specialises in their own professional area. In this way, we can focus more closely on our core tasks: developing and selling energy measurement systems for data centres. Because we have visited data centres throughout Europe since 2005, we know as no other how differently people think about the organisation of the infrastructure. Priorities and legislation can differ locally. Even within a small country like the Netherlands we have never encountered one data centre that was the same as another. This has strengthened us in our departure point that PDUs may never become a standard product but always have to be adapted to the unique circumstances of the data centre. Schleifenbauer has attuned its full range of internal processes to mass customisation, through which it is possible to make customerspecific PDUs within an acceptable time. Schleifenbauer Products is above all an innovative company. We identify the challenges in the market, devise the solutions and render them product ripe in a very short time. 3 2. Why measure energy? To improve quality Power is not only an important cost item, it is also the most critical component in the services of a data centre. An interruption, however brief, will irrevocably lead to lack of confidence with clients. A data centre therefore invests in emergency power supplies, back-up equipment and a solid infrastructure to prevent breakdowns in the power supply. Schleifenbauer Products manufactures the meters that are necessary to register power consumption, to the most detailed level. The iterative process of measuring, analysing and adaptation is a generally valid structural approach to managing improvement. MEASUREMENT IS KNOWLEDGE Through measurement one can: prevent overloads identify hot spots spread load evenly observe trends monitor SLAs (Service Level Agreements) Because of our social responsibility The PUE value (Power Usage Effectiveness) of a data centre indicates how much extra power a data centre needs over and above the use of IT equipment. This is expressed in a ratio between the total power consumed and the power used for the IT equipment. This PUE is a very important unit that says something about the efficiency of a data centre. However, it ignores the efficiency of the IT equipment. Schleifenbauer Products is of the opinion that significant improvements are possible exactly here. ADJUST MEASURE ANALYSE To lower costs Data centres are capital-intensive enterprises. Did you know that the energy costs of a data centre far exceed its write-offs? For this reason it is important for every data centre to manage these costs as much as possible. Various studies from leading authorities such as the Uptime Institute, the green grid, ASHRAE and the Code of Conduct best practices guide of the European Commission make it clear that measurements must be taken to make progress. The more measurements taken, the better one is able to map out the energy flows. These measured values bring about a process of awareness. In this way, they are at the basis of the improvements that are necessary to keep costs under control and preserve the environment as much as possible. A first step can be taken by making IT departments or clients aware of the power consumption of their equipment. To this end, it is necessary for reliable measurement to take place. If the users of the IT equipment are made responsible for the power costs, improvements in efficiency will automatically take place. Studies of the econometer in the dashboards of cars and recently smart meters, which register consumption in households, have shown that an improvement of 5 10% can be expected due to feedback on consumption. 5-10% more economical through insight into consumption! 03

4 3. PORTFOLIO OF PRODUCTS In-rack PDUs Schleifenbauer PDUs are customised to the specifications of our clients. They can be horizontally mounted between the 19 uprights or vertically, (0U) on the back of the racks. Schleifenbauer PDUs are equipped with input measurement for 16A, 32A or 63A, both in single- and three-phase applications. Measurement and/or switching of the outlets are also options. Selfevidently, our clients determine which type of outlets they would like to be fitted in their PDUs. Our focus on energy saving has ensured that our PDUs are the most energy-efficient of their type. Slave PDUs Slave PDUs are PDUs without power measurement or other forms of electronics. Just like the in-rack PDUs, they can be mounted horizontally or vertically and, due to the wide choice of fuses, made suitable for virtually all applications. Definilink: ultimate availability A special PDU variant is Definilink. In this PDU the electronics are separated from the electro-mechanical components. The PDU therefore comprises two parts: Definilink controller: this is the part where the measuring electronics and the data bus are connected. Definilink slave: in this module are the outlets and possibly safety components. Definilink is applied if there is a need for extreme availability or if the client opts to phase in the measurement of PDUs. The controller unit can then be connected at a later time without interrupting the power supply. 04

5 DP Meter The DP Meter has been developed for measurement in distribution boxes. The DIN Rail mounting of the meter and the power transformers ensure quick and safe mounting. Bus bar meter With the use of rail tube systems, bus bar meters can be used. A bus bar meter can be placed entirely within a branch box or the Definilink technology can be utilised, where only the transformer is fitted in the branch box and the necessary data are provided by means of the external Definilink controller. 05

6 3. PORTFOLIO OF PRODUCTS Databus en Gateway The data bus and Gateway are the common threads of the Schleifenbauer system. Via this data bus all the measurement equipment is connected together and linked to the LAN via a Gateway, so that the data becomes available to the operators. The Schleifenbauer data bus is characterised by simplicity and flexibility. Without complex IP configurations or laying extensive network structures, Schleifenbauer components can be connected to each other with standard patch cables. Up to 500 PDUs/bus bar meters/dp meters can be connected to a single Gateway. DC SPYDER MySQL MODBUS SNMP HTTP Monitoring: DC Spyder The DC Spyder monitoring software makes it possible to present all the measured data with clear graphics. You can switch outlets and create an unlimited number of users. For each user you can determine what rights they have and to which PDUs or outlets they apply. Whether you have to manage a single site or a large number, with DC Spyder you have an immediate overview and alerts are sent to the appointed people via or text messaging. DC Spyder can easily be adapted to the user s own situation by the users themselves, by uploading floor plans or creating widgets in the main screen. 06

Customer-oriented, durable, high-quality products The distinctive character of Schleifenbauer is apparent from the following characteristics: Customised products European quality and safety Sustainable technology We are convinced that our products are such an important component in the power distribution of a data centre that exclusively the best quality is enough. Our products must not only have a long lifetime, they may not fail. The interests of our clients are much too great for that. Every product therefore undergoes a strict quality control regime before it is sent to the client. Mass production does not suit us. We are of the opinion that our products must adapt to the wishes of the client and not the other way round. Our whole production process is therefore built around the principle of masscustomisation. This enables us to satisfy all the different requirements in the areas of electrical safety and compatibility. Our meters and PDUs therefore always fit within your existing infrastructure and are made in accordance with the highest European standards. Schleifenbauer Products has the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) firmly anchored in the goals of the enterprise. From the development phase up to and including delivery to the customer, we hold our processes up to the light and constantly look for improvement. As a result of this, our meters and PDUs are especially energy efficient in use and suppliers and materials are tested against ecological standards. One high-profile example of our CSR goals is the Green- CART. This wheeled container reduces transport damage, is easier for the client and reduces packaging materials to zero. It is a discovery that benefits our clients as well as the environment. We are convinced that due to the application of our meters, the users of IT equipment become much more aware of the enormous power consumption associated with IT. Such awareness will irrevocably lead to more power-saving measures. We hope that this may be our modest contribution towards a better world for the following generations. 5. The importance of quality The interface between ET (Electro-technology) on the one hand and IT on the other is the operating area of our products. The enormous investments on the ET side as well as the interests of a properly functioning IT infrastructure are supported by the quality of the PDUs. This awareness is our mainspring for making products of the highest possible quality every day. For these reasons, our products undergo 24-hour dynamic testing and are thereafter thoroughly inspected again, both electrically and functionally, before they are transported. 8 Schleifenbauer Products is a Dutch company with production facilities in the Netherlands. Schleifenbauer has supplied intelligent PDUs, PDUs with power measurement, since 2005, earlier than any other manufacturer in the world. Schleifenbauer Products has the goal of making the best PDUs available. Our CSR policy is based on ISO and all activities are carried out within the guidelines of this standard. Schleifenbauer PDUs are the most energy-efficient of their type. Schleifenbauer Products is the first PDU manufacturer to reduce packaging materials to zero, in collaboration with its clients. Schleifenbauer Products is managed by the current owners and has no other owners than the current management team. Schleifenbauer is the only brand that offers a complete line of products for measuring power consumption in the distribution panel, in branch boxes and in server racks.
