This handbook provides you with information about your internship options, as well as benefits and requirements of the program. This TEACH handbook is a contract. 5 Introduction to the Program TEACH Curriculum The TEACH program is a learning community pathway for students who want to improve their chances of success in completing the AA-T in Education, which is designed for future elementary school teachers. In this program, you will take classes with the same group of people, get to know your classmates, and support each other, while your instructors and counselors work with you and with each other to help you succeed. You will have overlapping homework in two or more classes and you will apply what you learn in class to an internship. Your learning community will help you to build valuable connections and experience as you prepare to transfer to a four-year university, well equipped to succeed in a credential program in order to become an elementary school teacher. More than 280,000 teaching jobs will open in the U.S. by 2020, creating a need for knowledgeable, skilled, and committed educators. Demand will grow as elementary teachers retire and as California implements transitional state laws adding transitional kindergarten classes to public schools. Admission Requirements Admission to the program is based on: 1. English 1A readiness; 2. Attendance required at orientation; 3. 6 Program Benefits 1. Develop strong relationships with classmates and feel connected to school. 2. Develop a comprehensive Student Education Plan (SEP) in your first semester, so you know where you re going and how you ll get there. 3. Receive early registration, so you get the classes you need. 4. Take classes with innovative and collaborative curriculum, like joint assignments, designed for students who plan to become elementary school teachers. 5. Receive extra support services, including tutoring, registration and scheduling assistance. 6. Have access to a dedicated TEACH counselor. 7. Receive support to pass tests required of credential applicants 8. Participate in an internship program at a public elementary school 1. Use student services, as required. 2. Maintain a 2.0 grade point average. Program Requirements and Expectations 3. Maintain punctuality and attendance at ninety percent or greater, except in the case of an emergency. 4. Get fingerprinted and have a TB test, if required as part of an internship 5. Take tests required of credential applicants 6. Abide by the student code of conduct (see BCC Catalogue). 6
