2 Increase your potential with endorsements & certificates English as a Second Language (ESL) is an 18-credit program intended for certified teachers or teacher candidates who seek endorsement as ESL teachers. In addition, it enables teachers in all content areas to work more effectively with P 12 student populations that are culturally and linguistically diverse. Field experience is provided in P 12 classrooms in local communities. (Accelerated option available.) M onmouth University s School of Education offers graduate endorsements for individuals who hold a New Jersey instructional or educational services license. Post-master s endorsements are available for teachers or school counselors who have a master s degree and wish to enhance their knowledge, skills, and dispositions in dealing effectively with diverse populations in the schools. A post-baccalaureate TESOL certificate program provides training to those who are not certified K 12 teachers but are interested in teaching ESL in adult communities and abroad. Through course work, projects, internships, and application of content in school settings, students will advance their teaching and leadership skills. The programs are linked to state and national NCATE and CACREP accreditation standards. Monmouth University offers multiple programs to choose from: Endorsements: Bilingual/Bicultural is a 12-credit program that will address the NJ State requirement for bilingual/ bicultural endorsement. The five domains (linguistics, language acquisition, developing literacy skills for the second language learner, methods of teaching content in bilingual education, and theory and practice of teaching bilingual education) required by the NJ State will be addressed in a manner that utilizes collaborative effort from the expertise of different schools and departments. An addition of one course focusing on theory and practice of teaching bilingual education to the existing ESL endorsement program will fulfill the State requirement for a bilingual/bicultural endorsement program. Chinese, Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) is a 24-credit program (15 credits of course work and 9 credits of student teaching) that prepares teachers for K 12 Chinese classrooms. Students may apply directly to the program after earning a bachelor s degree in the Chinese language and culture or equivalent. Students with a strong Chinese language and culture background who are seeking a career change to become a first-time teacher may also apply. Early Childhood is a 13-credit online program designed to provide expertise in creating developmentally appropriate assessment and instruction in literacy, language development, numeracy, and content areas; designing curriculum; and collaborating with families and colleagues in preschool through grade 3 settings. Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC) is a 21-credit program for teachers, counselors, or other school personnel to provide substance abuse/mental health prevention, intervention, counseling, and related services. Teacher of Students with Disabilities is a 21-credit standards-based program for teachers who wish to enhance their skills in working effectively with special education students, families, colleagues, and the community. (Accelerated option available.) Post-Master s Endorsements: Director of School Counseling Services is a 9-credit program intended for certified school counselors who want to supervise school counseling services in K 12 settings. Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant prepares experienced teachers to specialize in assessing and instructing students with special needs and to serve as learning consultants on child study teams. A main focus of the 24-credit program is collaboration with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and families. Supervisor is a 12-credit program intended for graduate students who want to supervise teachers in K 12 educational settings. It is aligned with national administrator standards and capitalizes on a strong educational vision; collaboration with teachers, families, endorsements and the community; and in implementing professional development. Certificates: New! Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a 6-course sequence (18 credit hours) that meets the updated (4 th edition task list) requirements for graduate level instruction necessary for applicants to sit for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) examination. 3 Autism is a fully online, 15-credit program that is recommended for teachers, related service providers, and child study team members or other professionals who wish to develop or extend their understanding of effective educational practices for working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). This program will help those professionals develop a clear understanding of the characteristics of students with ASD, as well as to learn effective, research-based teaching strategies, social, communicative, and behavioral interventions, and valuable supports for use within the educational environment. A 30-credit, fully online graduate program leading to an MSEd degree in Special Education: Autism is also available. Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is an 18-credit program that provides a TESOL certificate for candidates who are not interested in a K 12 state certification. TESOL candidates are often interested in teaching abroad or as an ESL instructor at the adult level in a variety of settings. (Accelerated option available.) certificates Connect with Us

4 what are the requirements? Requirements for the endorsement certification programs vary. Most programs require the applicant: to be a certified teacher. to possess a satisfactory overall GPA per state requirements (see Web site for details) and a minimum 3.0 GPA in the undergraduate major. Post-master s programs require a master s degree.
