1 Submitting Stems to Beatport via Baseware Remote TERMINOLOGY Stem A Stem file is an audio file that contains a track split into four musical elements: A drum stem, a bassline stem, a harmony stem, and a lead stem, for example. The Stem file also includes the original stereo master of the track for standard playback. Stem Pack A package, similar to a release, containing one or more Stems. Multiple Stems may be sold as a single Stem Pack. Baseware Remote A desktop application developed by Beatport to aid in the creation of a release package suitable for delivery to Beatport. This application collects release metadata and assets in order to generate an XML file that is used to ingest the release package upon delivery to Beatport. REQUIREMENTS Stem File - Prior to submitting Stems to Beatport please use the Stem Creator tool to generate the stem file(s). The Stem Creator tool can be found here: This tool will allow you to export an audio file (.mp4) that will replace the original track audio file in the release package created by Baseware Remote. Artwork Artwork for each Stem Pack must include the STEMS flag. The image file containing this flag is provided as a resource when downloading the Stem Creator. Please be sure to follow the instructions included with the Stem Creator tool to create your Stems-branded artwork prior to creating your release package via Baseware Remote. ISRC Each Stem submitted to Beatport must correspond to an existing track in our database. The ISRC code for the Stem MUST match the ISRC code of the corresponding track. CREATING A STEM PACK VIA BASEWARE REMOTE We re working to develop functionality in Baseware Remote that will serve to create a designated Stem Pack. In the meantime, we have outlined a process that utilizes Baseware Remote s current functionality to create a release package that can be manipulated prior to delivery to create a Stem Pack suitable for ingestion to Beatport. Once you have created your Stem audio file(s) using the Stem Creator tool and have branded the cover art with the STEMS flag, you are ready to begin creating a release package using Baseware Remote.* This release package must then be modified manually to create a Stem Pack that may be submitted to Beatport for ingestion.** *The following steps may be repeated as necessary for a Stem Pack containing multiple Stems - just as one would for a release containing multiple tracks. **For questions or concerns or to set up a test delivery please reach out to submissions@beatport.com

2 1. Open Baseware Remote application. 2. Enter metadata and Stems-branded artwork in tab Enter Stem metadata and upload original track WAV file in tab ISRC Code MUST be included and MUST match the ISRC code of the existing track on Beatport or the Stem will fail ingestion.

3 5. Review and Create package. 6. Choose an export location. This is where the release package will be saved on your computer.

4 7. Locate the release package on your computer. 8. Open the release package folder containing all assets (audio file(s), artwork, and XML). 9. Replace existing WAV file with the Stem file created using the Stem Creator tool (.mp4).* *AMEND FILE NAME TO MATCH ORIGINAL FILE (excluding file extension, this should remain.mp4). In this case: BPRT001STEMS_1.mp4

5 10. Open the XML file using an XML-editing or text-edit program, such as TextEdit, XMLSpear, XML Notepad, etc. XML will look like the following: In order for the XML to be ingested, several alterations must be made to the fields listed in the track metadata.

6 11. Remove all lines within the track metadata with the exception of: {albumonly, tracknumber, ISRC, originalreleasedate, beatportexclusive, exclusiveperiod, trackaudiofile, audiofilename}.

8 Next, all instances of track and tracks must be amended to stem and stems, respectively. 12. Identify all instances of track and tracks. 13. Change these to stem and stems, respectively. XML will now look like the following:

9 14. Next, all instances of originalreleasedate must be changed to releasedate. XML will now look like the following:

Lastly, the audiofilename must match the actual file name of the Stem file; In this case, the file extension.wav must be changed to.mp4 in the XML in order to reference the correct Stem file in the folder. XML will now look like the following: *SAVE ALL CHANGES. Stem Pack is almost ready for delivery to Beatport.

11 FINAL STEP Prior to delivery of this package to Beatport, please be sure to add the word STEMS to the end of the folder name. This allows us to identify the package as a Stem Pack rather than a typical release package. The Stem Pack is now ready for delivery to Beatport,* using either the Content Delivery tab in baseware.beatport.com or via FTP (please reach out to submissions@beatport.com for FTP credentials if necessary). *Please reach out to submissions@beatport.com with notification of your first Stem Pack delivery to Beatport. This will allow us to test the XML and confirm whether the package was set up properly.
