6 Golden Bullets Colour to reduce your electricity bill Customers confirm that our grey white rack colour has reduced Data Centre lighting needs by 40% when compared to the lighting needs for their black racks. So our Grey White is the new green which is why we call it Chameleon (Of course we are happy to sell Velvet Black racks as well) Big savings lay in the floor The Cannon RAFt is specified by 90% of our Data Centre customers because, for raised floor installations, the RAFt reduces the planning and design phase, avoids tile cutting, does away with the need for extra / intermediate pedestals, simplifies tile lifting, overcomes dimensional incompatibility between rack foot print and tile size, facilitates rack install and stabilisation, speeds project progress and saves significant cost. The RAFt can even be used to hang under floor brackets for power sockets or patch panels, adding to your configuration options. Why waste money Hanging Cable Management systems from the ceiling? Our Cannon Rack mounted cable raceway is a big customer favourite. Single or multi-tier Raceway is fitted directly to the roof of the rack, in widths which match the rack width. Raceway can be pre-fitted at our factory, so as racks are installed the Raceway is installed instantly for zero installation cost. Difficult ceiling work is substantially avoided and projects are completed more quickly (Cross Aisle and inter row bridges provide a complete solution). Generate more IT capacity per unit of floor space We can fit expander kits which add cabling capacity to 600 (24 ) wide racks. Our expander kits were designed for our broadcasting racks where cabling volumes are very large increasingly Data Centre specifiers are reverting to 600 (24 ) volume and clear air flow paths. Cannon Hideaway PDU power strips are totally out of the way further enhancing usable space. The 700 (28 ) wide Cannon Rack range provides a step up in rack capacity and remember, eight x 700 wide racks can fit in the same space as seven x 800 wide racks, a gain of approximately 14%. Of course sometimes an 800 wide rack is truly necessary. Aisle Cocooning, the least expensive way to reduce cooling cost and increase cooling capacity Cannon customers reduce cooling energy cost by as much as 40% by specifying cold aisle cocooning. Some customers have been able to switch off one in 3 crac units and reduce work load of the remaining two. Aisle Cocooning is just cold common sense and customers report pay back in a few months, plus extended server life is logically expected. Narrow aisles obstructed by open rack doors are a Health & Safety concern (Particularly in cases of fire when evacuating the Aisle) Cannon Smart doors open 180 O when racks are bayed in rows and a full 270 O at the end of rows or when racks stand alone. Life with Smart doors is easier, more efficient and safer than with outsized door designs which continuously obstruct. Cannon POD beats old style Security Cages Some Data Centres require higher security areas. Unfortunately old style security cages create many negatives i.e they defeat efficient floor plans, reduce the quantity of racks in the Data hall, diminishing income, complicate cooling, damage the floor, cost money and complicate hygiene and cleaning. Our Aisle Cocooning Solutions will securely close off Aisles, take no additional floor space, maximise rack quantity and remove the problems and difficulties posed by cages. The Aisle Cocooning doors and overhead panels can if required be upgraded with strong metal mesh for even higher physical security. Positive security control can be intensified with Cannon Guard remote access control and alarms. Cannon Aisle Cocooning provides a highly secure virtual cage and improves cooling efficiency at the same time. 1.1

7 MORE for LESS & COMMON SENSE Cooling efficiency can be damaged by Inter-Rack Cabling demands Our brand new Cannon Smart-Space rack cleverly enables the side panels of racks bayed in rows, to be removed completely from the row, or added at any time. The sliding version of side panel allows inter-rack cabling to be readily achieved but carefully manages cooling air flow, avoiding the overheating of servers which can be caused when, in older styles of rack the side panels are completely omitted from the row. Higher heat densities exacerbate such problems but our Smart-Space rack provides all the answers. Physical security and open Patching Frames can be achieved Our new Cannon high density patching frame i.e. Cannon Patch provides 100% Patching capacity and exceptional cable management. 14 Smart Space Cab Cabinet with Sliding and Removable Side Panels - when bayed in rows A unique cabinet with sliding/removable side panels, when bayed within rows. Panel Options are: Narrow Partition Panels usually in sliding pairs, to open or close side acess Full Depth Sliding Panels for zero side access The Fundamentals In some older, outdated rack designs, totally removable side panels in high density applications, badly reduce the efficiency of cold air flow within the rack and allow hot air to be scavenged from the rear to the front of the IT equipment, destroying the cooling effect. When side panels are totally removed, cold air can escape wastefully and hot air finds an easy path around the sides of the IT equipment and mixes with air entering the front of the servers, raising equipment temperatures and increasing the energy consumption of the cooling plant. Obviously bad practice, this problem can totally negate the benefits of Aisle Cocooning and is exacerbated in high power density installations. The Solution The Smart Space Cab offers two versions of sliding removable Partition Panels for racks bayed in rows. Narrow Partition Panels Used in pairs these narrow partition panels can slide fore and aft to either: - Open cross cabling apertures between adjacent racks - Or completely close off inter-rack side access Importantly, cooling air flow is managed to maximum efficiency in both positions. Full Depth Panels Used singly (or in pairs) to achieve a permanent sideways barrier between adjacent racks. Also used as end-of-row side panels. Full depth panels also preserve Cooling Air Flow efficiently. Features and Benefits of Narrow Partition Panels A full specification Server Smart Cab, enhanced with sliding/ removable side panels (Narrow Partition Type). Side panels slide open to allow cross-cabling apertures between single client racks, in a row, when required. Alternatively, the sliding side panels can easily be adjusted to close off all side access between racks for total security. The side panels can be totally removed or added to bayed racks at any time during the life of the installation. Uniquely, when fitted, the side panels, in any position, maintain close proximity to the front equipment mounting posts to minimise hot air scavenging to the front cold area. Maximum cooling efficiency is always maintained within the rack, in any fitted side panel configuration. No cold air is wasted. High density installations benefit substantially from this advantage. AIR-LOKK moulded seals can further improve the avoidance or hot air scavenging to the front area of the equipment. AIR-LOKK mouldings are easily configured to cater for IT equipment requiring cross air floor cooling (mixed airflow patterns). Side panels need not be removed, so separate storage of side panels is a challenge which disappears. Side panels can be totally removed, or not fitted, as desired. The only rack that resolves the competing challenges of: Inter rack security, Cross cabling between racks Cold Air/Hot Air separation within the rack for improved cooling. 33 RAFt TM System Raised Access Floor technology The Cannon RAFt System is compatible with the majority of Raised Access Floors with a modular tile size of 600mm x 600mm in current use worldwide. Installation of the Cannon RAFt System is very simple as the system is designed to replace complete floor tiles in Raised Access Flooring where Cannon cabinets are to be installed. RAFt Depth The RAFt consists of a series of individual picture frames which are bolted together and which always have the same depth (front-to-back) dimension as a floor tile (600mm). Cabinets with a depth (front-to-back) dimension greater than 600mm, overhang the RAFt equally at front and rear, i.e. a 900mm cabinet would overhang the RAFt by 150mm at the front and rear or may be offset/aligned with front of cabinet or rear. However, the RAFt raises the cabinet above the floor sufficiently to allow the overhung tiles to be raised vertically and slid sideways for access to the under floor void. RAFt Width It is preferable that the frame width matches the cabinet width (600, 700 or 800mm). RAFt System Clamps Single front & rear clamps (Order code: 307C ) - for use where stringers are not present. These clamps are slotted for adjustment and clamp to the underside of the pedestal heads. Four clamps per cabinet should be used, one in each corner, however, if the cabinets are securely bayed together it may be considered adequate to use two per cabinet (one front & rear). It is recommended that the end cabinets in a row, each have four clamps fitted, or at least the clamps should be to the outside of these cabinets. RAFt SYSTEM & Raised Floor side view The RAFt raises the cabinet above the floor sufficiently to allow the overhung tiles to be raised vertically and slid sideways for access to the under floor void. 34 RAFt TM Brackets System RAFt SYSTEM 600, 700 & 800 wide versions RAFt Width It is preferable that the frame width matches the cabinet width (600, 700 or 800mm). A 700 wide or 800 wide RAFt is laid out in the same manner as the 600 wide RAFt except from the position of clamp brackets and the end of raft position. Where a RAFt is built up from a multiple of frame widths other than the tile modular width of 600mm, it is likely that a part tile will be needed to act as a filler at the end of the bay. A bracket is available (Order code: 307C cut tile support ) which bolts to the end of the RAFt to support this part tile. However, installers should check with the flooring manufacturers as to whether extra pedestals are also required to maintain the integrity/warranty of the floor system. 48 Quick-Fit Shelves (PATENTED) 95% SAVE FIXING TIME No fixings are needed for Cannon Quick-Fit shelves. They can be fitted and moved within the Cannon cabinet in a matter of seconds. They take the same weight as traditional shelves and do not require the extensive fitting time that is usually required. Quick-Fit Fixed Shelves (Patented) Cannon Quick-Fit Fixed Shelves - one edge hinged relative to the main body of the shelf. Operation of this patented feature with its integral lock, allows fast installation and re-configuration by unskilled personnel. These shelves have pre-formed lugs which fit into Cannon standard cut-outs in the depth facing flanges of the 19-inch equipment mounting posts. When the heat load is low the fans are controlled to run at idle or low rpm. As temperature rises the fan speed adjusts steplessly to increase the flow of cooling air, maintaining equipment operating temperatures at pre-determined levels. 76 Power Distribution Unit - Plug Guide Socket Rating Alternative Panel Mount Trailing Plug Names Socket Socket UK 13A BS1363 SCHUKO 16A European CEE7 German French/ Belgium POWER UNIT GUIDE /PLUGS Notes: The standard plug and socket adopted for most of Continental Europe is CEE7/7, also known as the Schutzkontaktsteckdose plug and socket, or Schuko for short. These are sometimes referred to as a Euro plug and socket, this is incorrect. The Euro plug and socket or CEE7/16 is a 2.5Amp two pin un-earthed plug and is not used in our industry. The Earth in the Schuko plug is achieved through the scraping clips on the inside of the socket. The French / Belgian socket differs slightly in that it has an Earth pin although the plug is the same. NEMA 15A N/A N/A Notes: Works on the US electrical system of V. Not compatible with the European 230V system IEC C13/C14 10A Kettle plug/socket IEC C13 C13 C14 IEC C19/C20 16A IEC C19 C19 C20 Notes: The initials IEC stand for International Electro-technical Commission, who are an International body of technical experts from within the manufacturing industries and various national test houses. Their publications are not 'a standard' as such, but are a set of recommendations that form the basis of most of the national standards in Europe and Australia. You will often hear the phrase 'IEC' used to describe a type of plug or socket, usually referred to as a kettle type connector. This seems to have developed as an incorrect generic term that we all tend to use (and will continue to use in this text). To muddy the waters straight away, you will notice that the connector on your kettle has a raised section inside the inlet. These types of inlets are actually IEC C15 & IEC C16; we don't normally use this type of connector in our industry. The most important term used to clarify exactly what you want is the 'C' Number. Below are a few examples of 'IEC' plugs and sockets covered by the standard IEC I have included the higher rated C19 & C20 as they are becoming more common for connections to UPSs. The current ratings quoted are based on VDE (Verband Deutscher Electrotechniker) approvals, not UL (Underwriters Laboratory). BS A & Commando 32A IEC Notes: The next group of plugs and sockets causes just as much confusion. They go by a range of names, Commando, BS4343, IEC60309 and Industrial. Most people use the name 'Commando' but this is a registered name of MK Electric, so is an incorrect generic name, in the same way we call a vacuum cleaner a Hoover. Having said that, we'll stick to the term 'Commando' to save confusion
