1 Organised by Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban Rural Development Supported by UKTI AGENDA Monday 2 November Beijing London Green Buildings Seminar SPEAKERS Zhao Cheng, Deputy Management Director Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban Rural Development Zhao Cheng started his career at Beijing Xinxing Real Estate Development Company as a deputy general manager before moving to the Beijing Municipal Construction Committee where he held a number of senior positions for over a decade. He then became the Deputy Director of Beijing Municipal Office of housing security in 2009 and since 2010, is currently the Deputy Management Director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

2 Jaya Skandamoorthy, Director BRE China Jaya graduated in Civil Engineering (with Honours) at Imperial College London and joined BRE in 1993 where he worked on numerous building and civil engineering projects such as conducting specialist investigations and carrying out condition assessments of the London Underground tunnel linings. Jaya is currently Director of BRE China, he is responsible for establishing the international network of innovation parks which include countries for Brazil, China, Canada, India and US. Zhao Feng Dong, Deputy Director Beijing Housing and Urban Technology Promotion Center Since 2010, Zhao Feng Dong has completed the "Beijing green building incentives and appropriate technology research" project, published "Beijing Green Building Evaluation management method", "Green Building Evaluation Standard" DB / T , the development of "Beijing Green Building evaluation expert identification and management method", and established Beijing Municipal green building expert Committee. He launched green building evaluation in Beijing, providing guidance to planning and construction of future science and technology city in Changping District, Lize financial business zone of Fengtai District, and a number of green building demonstration zones in Haidian northern New region. He is currently promoting green building and training, and provide training on green building social awareness

3 Helen Pineo, Associate Director Cities BRE Helen is responsible for leading the development of services to help cities grow while achieving the best outcomes for people, place and the planet. She was formerly the BREEAM Communities Manager at BRE, responsible for the development, evaluation and delivery of this sustainable master planning standard. With a background in planning and sustainable communities, Helen is interested in multi-disciplinary approaches to tackling the complex challenges facing cities. Her current work focuses on bringing diverse professionals together to integrate knowledge and data to inform policy and decision-making. Ying Chen, Deputy Director Beijing building technology development Ltd Ying Chen is a Chartered Engineer who has more than 14 years work experience in low-carbon and sustainable design. He worked in the UK for many years and has a rich background of international co-operations. Currently he is the deputy general manager of the Beijing Building Technology Development Co., Ltd and the Chief Representative of DSA Beijing Office. Ying Chen was previously the Quality Assurance Manager of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers. His responsibility was to make sure that all approved low carbon energy assessors provided high standard services and providing technical support to all CIBSE members.

4 Jose Ortiz, Director BRE Jose has 12+ years of building energy modelling and consultancy experience in buildings, both commercial and domestic. Core activities include building energy performance simulation and thermal comfort analysis, energy surveying to identify cost-effective energy improvements and software development to enhance energy modelling tool s potential to embrace actual building behaviour. Additional work includes development of Building certification and benchmarking schemes and tools such as the National Calculation Method for the implementation of the EPBD (Energy Performance of Building Directive), UK Part L Building Regulations, and Green Deal policy. Experience in undertaking and managing a wide range of high quality and value sustainability projects in building energy and efficiency within the public sector. Good understanding of Government needs and policy requirements gained over the delivery of a portfolio of supporting projects for different government departments and quasi-government organisations. Prior to joining BRE, Jose was working as a professional engineer and researcher in the Department of Energy Engineering and Mechanics of Fluids at the University of Seville (Spain) where he initiated his PhD on Energy Engineering. It was there where he contributed to the development of a building energy simulation tool based on DOE2 for both design assistance and certification purposes.

5 Adam Alexander, Managing Director Low Energy Consultancy Ltd Adam s experience and knowledge of the building services industry spans over 20 years. He is responsible for the guidance for energy and sustainability services across all construction sectors as part of Low Energy Consultancy. He has worked on a variety of schemes advising housing associations on large scale housing redevelopments to private developers on multi-use commercial developments. Working across both new build and redevelopment projects, Adam focuses on practical and realistic solutions to ensure planning compliance as well as balanced consideration of project economics. Professor Mervyn Richards OBE Mervyn has been involved in the development of CAD and BIM systems, software and business processes for over forty years. He has been instrumental in the successful development and delivery of ICT strategies for many major projects. His achievements include his work on the flagship Heathrow Terminal 5 project, where he was a 3D modelling consultant for more than eight years. Mervyn was with Laing/Laing O Rourke, from 1972 until 2004, latterly as Information Systems Manager for the Laing Group of companies. He is the director and principal consultant for MR1 Consulting. He was awarded an OBE for services to BIM and to the Construction Industry in Mervyn is a visiting Professor at University Reading and also visiting lecturer at three major London Universities. He is also co-owner of the Avanti Partnership delivering education and training programs leading to BIM Certification with the Building Research Establishment at Watford UK.
