3 YOUR SMG REGIONAL MANAGER S REGION OVERVIEW (Northern Metro Suburbs / Clare Valley & Surrounds) Number of School Campuses with the Program 47 Number of CPS Workers 38 Total Reviews 3 Total Appointment Panels 2 School Induction Visits 10 Total Number of District Groups 5 District Group Meetings Attended 5 Total Number of Support Groups 8 Support Group Consultation 7 Governing Council Meetings Attended 0 EVENTS AND HIGHLIGHTS In term 1 it was wonderful to have the opportunity to visit some of the newer CPS Workers such as Paul, Sarah Jane, Tracey, Abbie and Jason (Elizabeth North PS) and to hear from their line managers that they are settling in well and making a positive contribution to the school. In term 1 it was also excellent to have the opportunity to participate in the Salisbury CPS Worker Celebration service ably organised by Patrick Garton and hosted by Naomi Duke at Parafield Gardens Uniting Church, and to participate in the Salisbury CPS Worker Support Group (SCSG) where Salisbury ministers met with the Salisbury CPS Workers. At the end of 2013 schools were required by the Federal Education Department to complete a Progress Report. I have included some comments below from their reports for your information and encouragement, removing any sensitive comments. Some schools chose to write in the comments section, other schools have verbally affirmed to me that they greatly value their CPS Worker but were too busy at the end of last year to include anything in the optional comments section. Elizabeth Park PS Our school community is more connected with the school through Helen's supportive relationships. Helen was there when my life was a mess, I needed help, direction, support. She up lifted me and gave me hope, for my children too. Helen listened and comforted them with feelings they didn t know what to do with..if Helen hadn t been there, not sure what I would of done. She is wonderful in every way."

4 Fremont Elizabeth HS He has demonstrated considerable initiative in establishing productive partnerships with outside organizations including local council and Foodbank. Lake Windemere * Mark has... supported and assisted in establishing the Aboriginal and 'At Risk' Student Mentoring program from term two onwards this year. He has been another person that students can access as part of their supportive network and has supported school mentors with processes of communication, resourcing and promotion. * Worked with SA Police and senior students with the 'North On Target' Program. This proactive program is a peer support program designed to communicate and promote the effective use of strategies to prevent harm being caused by the use of drugs and alcohol in our community. * Initiated and promoted processes that enable students to more readily access 'Kid's Helpline' and the mental health services of 'Headspace' with the intent to specifically target early adolescent students. * Mark has worked diligently to established and promoting access to effective referral processes for all students and families. He has worked with great effort to target specific students at families who are more 'at risk' due to poverty, or have experience significant loss, grief or change. * Developed networks between local social support services and services from the local church. On a number of occasions Mark has invited a range of people from local churches to participate in the life of the school to great effect. * Worked with a student group known as the 'Kindness Finders'. This group took on an initiative to create shoeboxes of kindness. These were sent to people who had experienced significant hardship as a result of natural disasters. * Directed, produced and presented a range of videos that capture and promote the school's values, or messages related to Harmony Day and Positive Education. Mark has worked with a wide variety of students in this area and has also used this medium to great effect in communicating important messages about how to problem solve and learn more effectively, how to be more harmonious and have fun. Mark Oliphant College Hi Jason Thank you very much for the in-class support you have provided during the Performing Arts class for 7C. As you are aware the behavior choices of some of the male students in the class was having a negative influence on the overall experience for the students and myself. As a result of your interactions with them during the Monday lessons these at risk males are now engaging in a positive way with the curriculum and their sense of achievement is easy to see. As a result of their engagement the overall tone of the whole lesson has changed from what felt to be continual behavior redirection to praising of positive behavior choices. You are a positive male role model to these students which is evident in the respectful way the students respond to you. Thank you once again for your support so far (and hopefully in anticipation of that to

5 come!) Sheree (Middle Years teacher) Jason has been a valuable asset to both the students and staff of the senior year. He makes himself available to students both in and out of the classroom offering support for school, social and family matters and issues. Jason s personality is very positive and the students find him very easy to talk to and approach when in need. I have found in my classes Jason to be very helpful and encouraging to the student. He not only supports them but also challenges them to extend their thinking. On a personal note I would like to thank Jason for his support both in the classroom and personally helping me go through some personal issues. Jason makes a real impact with the students and I look forward to working with him in the future. Craig Brown Senior Years Teacher Salisbury North PS Ross' active involvement and unique level of pastoral care at Salisbury North R-7 School has contributed towards many benefits, such as the positive relationships which have been developed with staff, students and families that has created a stronger linkage between home and school environments. Overall, Ross' presence has contributed to a reduction in student behaviour issues and an increase in school morale and wellbeing outcomes. Ross s role at Salisbury North is one held with high regard by our whole school community and he should be commended on the fantastic effort he puts in for all. He is a valued contributor to the wellbeing of staff, students and families who have expressed an overwhelming gratitude and support for his role and the activities and responsibilities he undertakes. Salisbury Park PS From the outset I would like to state that Callan s ability to take on a number of roles within the school is testament to his flexible and collaborative approach whilst keeping the best interests of the community at heart. On three separate surveys from the staff it was highlighted that Callan has a good working knowledge of our community and this allows him to work successfully in a variety of settings within the school and with a variety of students. His knowledge of the community combined with strong interpersonal skills and a caring manner provide firm foundations for building strong and meaningful relationships with students across the school. On a personal note Callan is a positive role model for the students in our school and his positive approach to life in general is well respected by myself, and the staff; he is a good person to have on staff as he adds much to upholding the positive culture within the school.
