1 Employee Volunteer Opportunities COPIAGUE, NY Long Island Teen Challenge (West Babylon) Contact: Rosie, executive assistant to the President This is a faith-based (Christian) organization that promotes prevention, awareness and treatment for teens throughout Long Island. They organize events such as rallies, concerts and education activities throughout the community and need volunteers to assist with these efforts. Education and Assistance Corp./EAC (Hempstead) Contact: Lance Elder EAC administers 64 human services programs in Nassau and Suffolk counties and can connect volunteers with projects at their various facilities. CORONA, CA Olive Crest (Riverside) This organization has branches throughout California, Nevada and the Pacific Northwest. They work with abused, at-risk and neglected children and their families, many of whom are affected by substance use disorders. The Angels of Olive Crest volunteer groups offer planned events and activities with the children and teens, dessert club and work parties at the residential group homes, and through public awareness and fundraising events. Groups also available in Spanish. Salvation Army (San Bernardino) Contact: David Baughman, Human Resources, or Emily (assistant) Volunteers are needed to teach life skills to residents in their adult rehab treatment program such as how to set a budget, use the Internet to look for a job, self-care such as healthy meal planning, etc. Sober Living Network Referral Line Contact: Al Pittman This is a network of 60+ sober houses throughout the county and they can connect volunteers to various long-term and short-term projects that are needed at the houses and by the residents at any given time.
2 PARSIPPANY, NJ Mrs. Wilson's Halfway House (Morristown) Contact: Sam Parisi, Exec. Director A 14-bed halfway house for women that is abstinence-based and uses the 12 Steps of AA/NA. Volunteers needed for a variety of projects working with the residents. Short-term and long-term volunteers welcome. Community Coalition for A Safe & Healthy Morris County Contact: Barbara Kauffman, Coordinator info@mcpik.org A citizens' group that promotes awareness about prevention, abuse and treatment. EDISON & NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ Catholic Charities Contact: Maria Hunter, Volunteer Coordinator or Catholic Charities operates a variety of social services such as halfway houses, treatment centers, children and family support throughout the county. Long-term and one-time volunteers welcome. Some long-term volunteer positions working with minors under 18 require background checks. Self Help Center (New Brunswick) This organization offers peer support for people with mental, behavioral and substance disorders. Anyone who has experience with these issues may volunteer to work with others who are experiencing similar issues. A family group may also be formed in the future where families of those affected by these issues may volunteer to support each other. ELIZABETH, NJ Streetlight Mission Contact: Peggy Henderson This is a faith-based (Christian) facility that assists people struggling with homelessness and substance abuse. Volunteers needed on long-term and short-term basis. St. Joseph Social Service Center Contact: Elissa Campbell , press 5 for volunteer coordinator This organization runs a variety of human resource programs including treatment for families and individuals affected by drugs/alcohol. They need volunteers on a recurring basis for long- and short-term projects.

Anthony House (Pembroke Pines) Provides substance-addicted mothers a safe place to start again and keep their families together in residential units as both mother and children receive much needed treatment and support. GURNEE, IL Nicasa Behavioral Health Services Contact: Laurie George-Baskin lgeorge-baskin@nicasa.org This group runs the Lake County Opioid Initiative, a community task force, as well as a variety of social service programs for people with substance abuse disorders where people can volunteer on a one-time or long-term basis. Lorraine House (Waukegan) Contact: Bob Parker This is a sober house that could use help with maintenance like grass-cutting and home repairs. (FYIthey need someone to bring a lawnmower.) Safe Place Contact: Yanika ext. 125 This is a homeless shelter where many residents have been affected by drugs/alcohol. They have a number of opportunities for long-term and one-time volunteers.

Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. We have an employee base of 65 and a database of 200 volunteers to keep the organization going. Numerous volunteer roles are available.
