Members of our Internal Audit team are located throughout the United States in approximately 55 major metropolitan areas, classified as audit zones. As an auditor, you will relocate to one of these areas, where you will be responsible for auditing approximately 70 to 80 retail and commercial facilities annually. opportunity Traveling to these stores as part of your daily responsibilities means that you ll be on the road about half the time, taking overnight trips by car or plane to conduct audits. You ll have the freedom to organize your own schedule so that you can be sure to meet your weekly goals for successful completion of audits in your zone. 3 PROFILE Alexandra Llapa Senior Accountant Latin America Coatings Group Make a difference. As an internal auditor, you ll support three Sherwin-Williams divisions Paint Stores Group, Automotive and Product Finishes by providing insights and analyses to optimize financial and operational efficiencies within individual facilities. You will be welcomed as a respected member of the team as you play an important role in identifying issues and offering solutions and ideas for improvements. Audits, which typically take three to four days to complete, include reviewing all financial and operational aspects of a facility: financial statements, cash handling and banking controls, accounts receivable management, inventory management, accounts payable, purchasing and receiving practices, safety and security controls, and payroll. The facility manager will work closely with you to ensure you have all of the information you need to conduct a successful audit. Since you will communicate your results electronically to your supervisor in Cleveland after each audit, the corporate organization will stay apprised of your efforts. The impact of your recommendations could reach far beyond the individual facility level, influencing policies and procedures corporate-wide. Sherwin-Williams North American Facilities Alexandra Llapa experienced the excitement of moving to a different place 14 years ago when she came to the United States from Ecuador. So when she became an internal auditor with Sherwin-Williams and found out she could relocate once again this time from Cleveland to San Antonio she was delighted. I loved the independence of the auditor position, she shares. I was responsible for my own itinerary and making sure audits were completed successfully while always having a great support system in my supervisor and peers. After a year in San Antonio, Alexandra was offered a position as a staff auditor with Corporate Audit back in Cleveland. She accepted and was promoted to lead auditor just a year-and-a-half later. After four years in Corporate Audit, she moved into Corporate Treasury for a year-long assignment as senior treasury analyst. Today, Alexandra is a senior accountant in the Countries in which Sherwin-Williams has a presence. John Carroll University Hired: 2006 Latin America Coatings Group, overseeing accounting matters for Sherwin-Williams business in Mexico and Ecuador. I came into the company with an open mind, knowing I wanted a career in finance but unsure of the exact position, she explains. As I worked in Audit, I learned about the company s processes and the various positions I could fill. With the company s ongoing support of my personal growth and development, I am fulfilling my career aspirations, taking on positions of increasing responsibility and visibility. 4 Your career options are virtually limitless As a member of the Sherwin-Williams auditing team, you will have the flexibility to grow into a variety of positions and explore career opportunities in any division of the company. Our internal auditors typically advance into positions of greater responsibility and authority within a year or two. From there, your future is up to you! Training beyond compare. Your career begins with a six-week program of on-the-job training. You ll learn everything you need to know to put your financial skills to work as a Sherwin-Williams auditor. The first four days: Your very first four days on the job will be spent at our world headquarters in Cleveland, where you ll learn about our audit system and study the guidelines that will help you excel in the field. You ll learn the ins and outs of store operations and become familiar with our software programs, which you ll run on the laptop that will accompany you on every audit. The next four weeks: Next you ll spend a month in the field. You will observe and assist with four audits each conducted with a tenured Sherwin-Williams auditor so that you can experience different approaches to audits. During the final week of this leg of your training, you will have the opportunity to conduct your first solo audit, training using your own approach and applying what you ve learned. A tenured auditor will then help you conduct a peer audit, during which he or she will assist you with any follow-up questions you might have. Ongoing learning opportunities. As you gain experience as an internal auditor, you will take on the role of mentor and trainer to new auditors. You will also continue to build your knowledge, preparing yourself for advancement. Within a year or two, you are likely to be promoted to a position in an area such as Accounting, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Operations or Human Resources.

To become a strong candidate for an internal auditor position, you ll need to have: n A four-year degree in accounting or finance n Excellent interpersonal and communication skills n An analytical, solutions-oriented mindset n The ability to work with minimal supervision n The desire to learn and advance Where you can go from here. Where will your career path lead? That s up to you! By the nature of your work as an internal auditor, you will become very knowledgeable about the company and its operations. That familiarity, coupled with your personal interaction skills, can lead you to career opportunities within our corporate division or in any of our four specialized groups: Paint Stores Group The Sherwin-Williams stores network is the largest revenue source for the company and is the exclusive outlet for Sherwin-Williams branded architectural paint and industrial coatings. Consumer Group This division supplies branded and private-label products to retailers throughout North America and supports our Paint Stores Group with manufacturing, distribution, logistics and the largest, most advanced research and development facility of its kind in the world. Global Finishes Group This group manufactures and sells OEM product finishes, automotive finishes, protective and marine coatings, and architectural coatings to a growing customer base in more than 100 countries. Latin America Coatings Group This division represents a variety of brands, paint and coatings products, distribution networks and Sherwin- Williams stores in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico and other Latin American countries. Drew knows that Sherwin-Williams auditors have a solid foundation: They are independent, knowledgeable about company operations and confident in personal interactions. How can he be so sure? Firsthand experience. Introduced to Sherwin-Williams through a part-time position the summer of 1981, Drew began his career in Internal Audit in Today he s in charge of Product Finishes, which sells products to customers around the globe and employs professionals in North America, Europe and Asia. I didn t know I would end up leading GLOBAL a division, Drew says. My goal FINISHES was to do the best job I could in GROUP each position as I prepared for the next. That strategy paid off, as Drew s career progressed swiftly from LATIN N auditor to treasury analyst AMERICA and then Corporate Treasury COATINGSO S manager in Cleveland, to GROUP P Southeast division controller in Atlanta, to vice president of sales for the Coastal region, to controller and then senior vice president of operations of the Consumer Group in Cleveland, to division president of the Midwestern Stores division and, most recently, to president and general manager of Product Finishes. Miami (Ohio) University Hired: 1989 When Jane Cronin joined Sherwin-Williams after college in 1989, she didn t necessarily set out to take on an executive leadership role within the company. She recognized fairly quickly, however, that the company is committed to promoting from within and that her hard work and willingness to take on additional challenges and responsibilities would enable her to exceed any of her initial career expectations. Internal Audit offers fantastic opportunities, Jane shares. Before I had even completed my first year, I was training and coaching newer auditors. I sensed that the company had genuine confidence in me. That confidence motivated me to learn, grow and challenge myself. After just over a year of auditing facilities on the East Coast, Jane landed a position at Cleveland headquarters as a corporate auditor. She was subsequently appointed to a variety of managerial positions in Accounts Receivable, Sales Accounting and Operations Accounting. Her next step? Director roles in Budgets and Forecasting and then Accounting. Today Jane fills the role of vice president and controller of Diversified Brands, a division responsible for a variety of respected brands. My position is gratifying because I m not only monitoring the financials; I m also helping to drive sales and profitability. I enjoy playing a strategic role in setting and achieving corporate goals, says Jane. That s why Audit is such an exciting place to start.
