1 Extraordinary Vessel Clinical AcupunctureTraining & Certification Program University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine October 10-15, 2012 Dear Friends, I am extremely excited about offering our second Extraordinary Vessel Clinical Acupuncture Training Program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Last year s training was an enormous success. This year we will feature greatly enhanced learning materials as well as the support of our growing community. Developed and designed for all professionals currently practicing acupuncture, this course provides an accelerated opportunity for the successful integration of the extraordinary vessels into their clinical practice. All participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance issued by the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. I have dedicated a great portion of my personal and professional time over the last two and a half decades to the study and practice of this model. Non-Somatic Extraordinary Vessel acupuncture is steeped in the traditions of Chinese medicine and is meaningful and accessible to us in modern times. It has been of enormous benefit to me as I use this model in my own life and practice. I have personally done daily sessions with the extraordinary vessels at the same time each morning for the last twenty-five years, almost without interruption. I have also used these treatments in my practice in ever increasing frequency over the last twenty-four years. In all, I have given more than 100,000 acupuncture treatments using the extraordinary vessel model that I will be presenting during the training. This certification training will feature site specific learning, experiential exercises, didactic instruction and advanced clinical training with a group of serious and committed participants. October 3, 2011: Participants will receive preview materials and instructions to begin daily pre-intensive preparations. 2. October : Six-Day Clinical Training at the University of Miami. 3. October 2012 December 2012: Ongoing, online clinical support Six -Day Clinical Training Schedule Wednesday October 10, am - 8 pm Thursday October 11, am - 6 pm Friday October 12, am - 6 pm Saturday October 13, am - 10 pm Sunday October 14, am - 6 pm Monday October 15, am - 4 pm Classes to be held at University of Miami Downtown Medical Campus. Attendees of the Six Day Acupuncture Clinical Intensive will receive a certificate of attendance & 34 CEUS issued by the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. Online clinical support - October 2012 through December 2012 Participants will have the opportunity to have cases from their private practice reviewed by Senior NSEV Acupuncture Practitioners on the NSEV Practitioner Case Study Bulletin Board. This valuable resource will optimize the integration of the extraordinary vessels into the clinical practice. 3 3 NSEV Intensive Training and Certification Program Catalog Areas of Instruction Five key components will receive emphasis during the training. Each will receive an initial introduction and then develop through a gradual layering of information as concepts are introduced and explored. These general areas of instruction are : Theory Anatomy and physiology Diagnostics Therapeutics and treatment principles Clinical application Theory Ancient pre-taoist wisdom traditions in China evolved a unique cosmology of the universe. The metaphysics that form the foundation of Chinese medicine evolved from this cosmology. We will review the basic ideology and thinking processes of this worldview and place them in a healing context. The fundamental theories of NSEV Healing will be presented from this perspective. A foundation for thinking contextually and employing the conceptual models of Chinese medicine as they apply to the extraordinary vessels will evolve from this presentation. 4 4 NSEV Intensive Training and Certification Program Catalog Anatomy & Physiology Participants will be provided an overview of anatomy and physiology. The extraordinary vessels and the channel system will provide the foundation for exploring anatomy. Multiple models, detailed descriptions, and historical evolution of the extraordinary vessel pathways will be taught with emphasis placed on the somatic/non-somatic relationships of the materials presented. Special skills and techniques for establishing a profound relationship with and understanding for navigating the bodily terrain will be integrated throughout the training program. The four methods of Chinese medical diagnostics will be deeply engaged. Participants will, through experiential exercises, be given ample opportunity to deeply explore and enhance their diagnostic skills and will be given individual guidance in all of the diagnostic assessment areas. All diagnostic skills will be presented with an eye toward their being employed in the extraordinary vessel models. 5 5 NSEV Intensive Training and Certification Program Catalog Therapeutics & Treatment Principles The training will introduce a variety of modalities for employing NSEV treatments. Core master/couple treatments will employ needles, magnets, and ion pumping cords. The presentation of adjunct treatments will include acupoint therapy and the use of adjunct and supplementary acupoints; topical herbology including herbal plasters, pastes, oils, compresses and soaks; breath and movement exercises; moxibustion including pole and herbal cake treatments; and massage, incorporating a variety of massage tools and techniques. Opportunities to practice and experience all of the treatments and methods presented will be available. Attendees will progress from diagnosing and treating other training participants in clinical theatre, to patients in a group clinical setting during the training to patients in their private practice. Local participants will have the opportunity to have current patients attend the clinic that will be held as part of the Six Day Clinical Intensive. Appropriate support will be given for each phase of the clinical process to insure the smoothest integration of the NSEV acupuncture model into clinical practice. In addition to the supervised clinic during the Six Day Clinical Intensive participants will receive ongoing, online support for three months following the Intensive. Participants will also participate in and receive guidance on facilitating shared group acupuncture experiences.

6 6 NSEV Intensive Training and Certification Program Catalog General Information Certificate of Attendance & Continuing Education All participants who attend the Six Day Clinical Intensive will receive 34 hours of continuing education credits and a certificate of attendance issued by the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. Who Should Apply? This training is designed for acupuncturists and other medical practitioners licensed to practice acupuncture with an inspired interest in personal evolution and professional development. Applicants should have a strong interest in and a keen dedication to traditional healing and the methods and processes that will be shared in this training. Applicants should be passionate and serious about engaging in the daily cultivation practices and personal and professional techniques that will be presented in the training. Acupuncture students may apply for participation in the training but will not be eligible for certification until they are licensed to practice acupuncture. Entrance Requirements All applicants seeking certification for the training must meet the following minimum requirements: 1) Licensure that allows for the practice of acupuncture 2) Current active healthcare practice that includes acupuncture 3) Commitment to pursuing a serious course of study on both a personal and professional basis About Tuition Tuition includes all teachings and in-class supplies. Tuition does not include personal supplies. While we will be having meals together during the intensive, tuition does not include the cost of these meals.
