Mobile phone contract and SIM card A SIM card is required to receive and send text messages (SMS). It is recommended to use a secret phone number and not to tell the phone number to outsiders. If you use a prepaid SIM card, please note that if the card s balance is not topped up regularly, the SIM card may be terminated. Gea cannot inform the users if the SIM card is terminated or has insufficient balance. Please note that the user is always responsible for all expenses related to the mobile phone contract. If the system is used near border areas, it may connect to a foreign mobile phone operator. The messages on the SIM card may be erased when the card is installed to the main unit! Gea will accept messages only from the registered phone numbers using the correct passcode. If you lose your passcode or phone, you may need to reset the main unit. Some messages are sent to all registered phone numbers. This might mean up to 13 messages for one event. Gea may send also multi-part messages that are longer than 160 characters. 9

2 Introduction to Vibsolas Gea 2.1 Main applications and features Vibsolas Gea is a wireless, portable monitoring system, which can be easily taken anywhere to monitor and secure belongings, areas and people: Homes and cottages Luggage and laptops Cars and motorcycles In addition to the traditional security applications, Vibsolas Gea can also be used for other purposes, for example: Monitoring temperatures indoors and outdoors Keeping track of items leaving and entering an area Gea informs the users by sending SMS messages and by using the main unit s LEDs and the internal buzzer. Gea can be controlled by sending SMS messages and by using a remote controller. 10

2.2 Units and package content Vibsolas Gea has three kinds of units. The package includes also a charger, magnets for the sensors, a quick guide and this manual. All units have batteries already installed. The main unit (MU) is the heart of Gea. It has a built-in buzzer, rechargeable battery, GSM connection and LEDs. The main unit communicates with the sensors and the remote controllers and sends notifications to the users. The sensors (SE) detect motion, temperature and magnet presence. The sensors can be attached to any item within about meters from the main unit, from a door to a laptop. You can use the system also to monitor when a sensor enters or leaves the wireless range of the main unit. The remote controller (RC) can activate and deactivate the monitoring. It can be used also to add new units. 11

2.3 The user interface Vibsolas Gea has two main user interfaces: LEDs and SMS messages Understanding the LED indications The main unit has five LEDs (from left to right). LED Meaning LED 1: Power Blinks three times on startup. Is on in normal operation. Blinks slowly when new units can be added to the main unit. Blinks every three seconds in the power saving mode (see 5.17). LED 2: Mobile connection Is on when connected to the GSM network. Is off when not connected to the GSM network or when the main unit is in the power saving mode. Note! The blue LED does not guarantee that Gea can send messages. If a prepaid SIM card has insufficient balance, Gea cannot send messages despite of being able to connect to the network. 12

LED Meaning LED 3: Monitoring on/off Is on when the monitoring is on. Is off when the monitoring is off or when the main unit is in the power saving mode. LED 4: Notification! Turns on in certain situations (see 3.3.4). Turns off when monitoring is activated or deactivated. Blinks while the main unit is turning off. Is off when the main unit is in the power saving mode. LED 5: Charging Stays on when the internal battery is being recharged. Blinks in case of a recharging failure. Is off when the battery is fully charged or there is no external power. 13

The sensors and the remote controllers have one LED that can show green and red light. In an error situation, please: Retry what you were trying to do. Ensure that the main unit is powered and within the wireless coverage of the unit. Recheck the instructions related to the functionality. Error indication for sensors and remote controllers (3 x short red) Meaning No connection with the main unit or other error. 14

2.3.2 LED indications of button press durations Some features require you to press a button for a certain time. LED indications help you to know how long a button has been pressed. The main unit will turn the power LED (green) off when its button has been pressed for 10 seconds. Note! When the main unit is on, a button press longer than 10 seconds will reset the main unit! Warning! Reset the main unit only when necessary! After reset, all users and settings are erased and all units have to be added again. The sensors and the remote controllers turn their green LED on when a button has been pressed for 5 10 seconds, and turn the red LED on when a button has been pressed for more than 10 seconds. When a sensor has been turned off, these indications are not shown Low battery indications The main unit and the sensors indicate low battery voltage by using SMS messages. The remote controller will indicate the low battery with the red LED only. LED indication for remote controller (6 x short red every 15 seconds) Meaning The battery voltage is too low. 15 Action to take Replace the battery as soon as possible. See 6.4 for more details.

3 Starting with Vibsolas Gea This chapter shows how to set up your Gea and get familiar with controlling the monitoring. You can alternatively use the separate quick guide. You can also watch setup and other videos from our website at Note! If you encounter any problems (e.g. red LEDs), please consult chapter Quick setup Before starting, remove all the units and the charger from the package on a table. 1. Connect the charger to the Micro-USB port of the main unit. 2. Plug the charger into a power socket (the yellow charging LED will turn on). The main unit will automatically power up, blinking the green LED three times. After a few seconds, the green LED will turn on permanently. Then wake up the sensors. 3. Press and hold down the sensor s button for more than 5 seconds, then release (the green LED will blink 10 times). Repeat for all sensors. The remote controller does not require waking up and is ready to use. Now you can either start using Gea as a local monitoring system (see 3.3.1) or set up a mobile connection. 16

3.2 Adding a mobile connection Before starting, ensure that the PIN of the SIM card is 1234 or disabled. You might need your mobile phone to change the PIN (please see the phone s user manual). Note! Some SIM cards (typically prepaid) may need activation before they can be used. Please refer to your SIM card s instructions. 1. Open the plastic lid on the back of the main unit. 2. Release the SIM card holder. 3. Insert the SIM card into the holder. Use the micro-sim adapter, if necessary. 4. Close the SIM card holder and the plastic lid. 17

The main unit will now automatically try to connect to a GSM network. When the blue LED turns on (this might take up to 30 seconds), you can register your mobile phone to control Gea. 5. Send add first user (without quotes) to the phone number of the SIM card which you installed into the main unit. You will receive a confirmation message that contains a passcode and initial guidance. Command Description add first user Adds the sender as the first user. The passcode is not needed before this command. The command works only when there aren t any users yet. Note! Store the passcode, because you need to use it at the beginning of all SMS commands. You cannot change the passcode (Gea will randomly select one). If you lose the passcode, you will need to reset the main unit. 18

Note! Gea sends a response to all SMS commands that are sent from a registered phone number and have the correct passcode at the beginning About the SIM card contract It is recommended to use a SIM with a post-paid contract. You can use a prepaid card, but Gea cannot detect an insufficient account balance or notify the user about it. As Gea uses SMS messages, it is recommended to select a contract which is optimal for that purpose. 19

3.3 Controlling the monitoring and notifications Controlling the monitoring with the remote controller To activate the monitoring, press the remote controller s upper button briefly. The main unit s monitoring LED (yellow) is turned on. Note! After activating the monitoring, moving a sensor will turn the buzzer on! To deactivate the monitoring, press the lower button briefly. The main unit s monitoring LED is turned off. Button press Function Remote controller s LED indication Upper button (short press) Activation Main unit s LED indication Lower button (short press) Deactivation (1 x long green) 20

3.3.2 Controlling the monitoring with a mobile phone To activate the monitoring, send message 6547 monitoring on (without quotes) to Gea (replace 6547 with the passcode you received). You will shortly receive a response. To deactivate the monitoring, send 6547 monitoring off (again using the real passcode). Command Description Response 6547 monitoring on Activates the monitoring. This command works like the activation by remote controller monitoring off Deactivates the monitoring and stops the buzzer. This command works like the deactivation by remote controller. Monitoring activated. You can deactivate the monitoring by sending 6547 monitoring off. Monitoring deactivated. You can activate the monitoring by sending 6547 monitoring on. 21

3.3.3 Testing the notifications You can use a sensor to test the notifications (make sure that the main unit is on): 1. Let a sensor stay still for at least 20 seconds. 2. Activate the monitoring (either with a remote controller or a phone). 3. Shake or tilt the sensor. The buzzer will turn on, you will receive a notification SMS and the main unit s notification LED will turn on. 4. Deactivate the monitoring. To test the magnet detection: 1. Let the sensor stay still for at least 20 seconds. 2. Bring the magnet next to the sensor from the upper side. 3. Activate the monitoring. 4. Take the magnet away from the sensor. The buzzer will turn on, you will receive a notification SMS and the main unit s notification LED will turn on. 5. Deactivate the monitoring. Note! The motion and magnet detections have a limit of 20 seconds. If you move a sensor (or take the magnet away) continuously, you will get a notification only every 20 seconds. Note! If the date and time in the notification messages are not correct, see

Note! If the connection to a sensor has been lost and the sensor returns to the wireless range of the main unit, the sensor has to stay still for about one minute before being able to detect movement Notification types The table below explains Gea s notification types. Some events don t trigger the buzzer and for some the SMS notification is sent even when the monitoring is off. Note! All events trigger the sending of an SMS message to all registered phone numbers when the monitoring is on. Notification type Motion Unit(s) Meaning Buzzer and LED Sensor, main unit SMS sent also when the monitoring is off The unit detected movement. Yes No 23

Notification type Connection loss Unit(s) Meaning Buzzer and LED Sensor The connection between the main unit and the sensor has been lost. Possible reasons for this include: The sensor has left the area The wireless link is too weak The sensor has been broken The sensor s battery is empty LED: Yes Buzzer: Configurable (see 5.8) SMS sent also when the monitoring is off No Magnet switch opened Sensor There is a separate warning message for short and temporary connection problems. The magnet was moved away from the sensor (e.g. a door was opened). Yes No 24

3.4 Turning units on and off (taking Gea on the airplane or storing it) If you are taking Gea on the airplane or are planning to store it for long periods, you should turn off the main unit and the sensors. You can turn the main unit on and off by shortly pressing the button next to the Micro- USB port. Use a pen or a similar tool. Note! When the main unit is on, a button press longer than 10 seconds will reset the main unit! Warning! Reset the main unit only when necessary! After reset, all users and settings are erased and all units have to be added again. 27

When the main unit is turned off, it consumes very little power and has no wireless activity. The main unit s estimated battery life when the unit is turned off is about 6 months in normal conditions. Note! The main unit will turn on automatically when external power is connected. The remote controller doesn t require to be turned on and off. The sensors can be turned on and off by pressing the button (see table below). Note! When turning the sensors off, the green LED turns on when the button has been pressed for 5 10 seconds. Button press LED indication Meaning More than 5 seconds when the sensor is off 5 10 seconds when the sensor is on (10 x short green) (4 x long green) The sensor is turning itself on. The sensor is turning itself off. 28

4 Installation 4.1 How the sensors work Gea s sensors are designed for versatile use and include several sensing elements. The sensors detect their own motion (i.e. movement, shock, angle, vibration). This means that if you attach a sensor to any item (e.g. a bag or a motorcycle), it will notify the main unit if the item is moved. The sensors detect magnet presence, which is useful for securing a door or a window. If the sensor detects that the magnet is away from the sensor, it notifies the main unit. The sensors measure temperature, which can be used to manually check the temperature of e.g. a room. You can also set temperature ranges, and automatically receive a notification if the temperature goes out of range. The main unit monitors the sensors presence. Gea can be used to monitor when sensors leave and enter the main unit s area. Note! The motion detection is based on acceleration. False detections are possible if the sensor is installed so that it can move easily e.g. because of wind. 29

4.2 Environmental specifications The sensors are designed for outdoor use, and can be used from -30 to +70 degrees Celsius, also in rainy and snowy conditions. However, do not submerge the units in water. You can use the main unit as a mobile device or install it somewhere more permanently. You can use the main unit both in- and outdoors, but it is recommended that the main unit: Is kept in a locked space (for example inside a garage) to prevent anyone from tampering with, or even stealing, the main unit. Is not exposed to rain or snowfall. Is not installed inside or near a metal box or anything else that might disturb the wireless operation. The Micro-USB charger is for indoor use only. 30

4.2.1 Testing the wireless connection To ensure that the sensor is within the wireless range of the main unit, run the connection test by pressing the sensor s button (short press). If the sensor blinks the red LED, move the sensor and the main unit closer to each other and try again. You can also try making small adjustments to the units positions. Button press LED indication Meaning The connection is OK. The sensor can be placed here. The connection is mediocre. The connection might be sufficient, but it is not recommended to place the sensor here because of possible connection problems. The connection is too weak. In practice, this means that the short press distance between the sensor and the main unit is too long or there are obstacles between the units. If the sensor is placed here, connection problems are likely. Move the sensor or the main unit and rerun the connection test. Low battery. The sensor s battery needs to be replaced. You can test the connections also by using an SMS command (see 5.12). Note! Wireless connection quality may vary with time. Good connection at the testing moment is not a guarantee of future conditions. 31

4.2.2 Weak or missing wireless connection Gea uses a 2.4 GHz wireless technology, which is designed for short range communications. In practice this means ranges of meters depending on the number of obstacles between the devices. If the main unit notices a short, temporary connection problem, a warning message is sent. This warning is sent only if the monitoring is on. If the main unit does not receive any signal from a sensor for long enough time, a notification is sent and the buzzer will be turned on (if the monitoring is on). See 5.8 for more details. You can improve the wireless performance by making sure that there are as few obstacles as possible between the main unit and the sensors (walls, cars etc.). Note! The connection warning message will be sent again for the same unit only after you reactivate the monitoring! 4.3 Sensor installation Double-sided adhesive tape is suitable for most sensor installations, but a fixed installation is often unnecessary (e.g. when putting a sensor in a bag). Note! Any obstacles (especially metal objects) between the main unit and a sensor may affect the quality of the wireless connection. Take this into consideration if you place the sensor e.g. inside or near a metal box. 32

4.3.1 To a door or a window with a magnet Even though the sensors detect movement, a magnet is recommended with doors and windows. 1. Make sure that the monitoring is off. 2. Attach the magnet on the frame with double-sided tape. 3. Attach the sensor below the magnet as close to the magnet as possible. Position the sensor so that the LED is above the button and the magnet is aligned with the left side of the sensor. 4. Test the installation by activating the monitoring and opening the door or window (wait for at least 20 seconds after the activation). You can check that the magnet is detected also by using an SMS command (see 5.13). Note! The magnet detection has a limit of 20 seconds. If you take the magnet away continuously, you will get a notification only every 20 seconds. 33

5 SMS commands and advanced features Gea has many settings and features that allow it to be customized for different purposes. 5.1 Important information before using the commands Use the passcode at the beginning of every command. For example, to activate the monitoring, send 6547 monitoring on (without the quotes), substituting 6547 with the real passcode. Changing, exemplary parts of SMS commands are written in bold (e.g. add user ). Gea sends a response to all messages that are sent from a registered phone number and have the correct passcode at the beginning of the message. In case of an erroneous message (e.g. misspelling), Gea will send an error response. Gea will not respond if you don t use the valid passcode or you send the command from a phone number that is not associated with an added user. Line breaks are ignored in commands. Please note this when naming units and defining custom messages. Some responses are longer than 160 characters and take longer to send. In all commands, the abbreviation of the unit (not the name) must be used, e.g. remove unit rc1 (not remove unit garage door ). 34

5.2 Activating the monitoring with a delay In addition to the simple monitoring on/off commands, the monitoring can be activated with a delay. The delayed activation makes it possible to take a sensor outside the main unit s range without causing a notification. For example, if you have a sensor attached to your bicycle, you can use the delayed activation and leave the area with the bicycle during the next four minutes. Only those sensors that are left to the area will be monitored by the main unit. Command Description Response 6547 delayed monitoring on Activates the monitoring with a 5-minute delay. This command works like the delayed activation by remote controller. Monitoring deactivated temporarily. The monitoring will be activated automatically after 5 minutes. You can deactivate the monitoring by sending 6547 monitoring off. Also the remote controller can be used for the delayed activation. Button press Function LED indication for success Corresponding SMS command Upper button (5 10 s) Delayed activation 35 (3 x short green) delayed monitoring on

When a sensor returns to the area, the main unit will automatically start to monitor it. However, the sensor s motion detection is activated only after the sensor has been still (not detecting motion) in the area for about one minute. 5.3 Updating date and time The main unit has an internal real-time clock, which tracks the date and time even when the unit has been turned off. Note! Gea will never update the date and time automatically, so update them manually at least every 6 months. Command Description Response 6547 time :47 Sets the main unit date and time. Main unit time updated. The current time is :47. Note! The system does not adjust to daylight saving time automatically! 36

5.4 Scheduling monitoring activation and deactivation Gea can be programmed to activate and deactivate the monitoring daily based on time. Note! The system does not take daylight saving time into account. If you use the time-related features, remember to adjust the time manually when needed! Note! Update the date and time before using this feature (see 5.3). Command Description Response 6547 time activation 22:00 Activates the monitoring automatically on a daily basis at the given time (if the monitoring is off). The activation works like the activation by remote controller. Monitoring will be activated daily at 22:00. The current time is 07:47. You can disable the feature by sending 6547 time activation off. By default the automatic activation is not in use. 37

Command Description Response 6547 time activation off Disables the automatic activation. Automatic monitoring activation disabled. You can enable the activation by sending 6547 time activation HH:MM time deactivation 07:00 Deactivates the monitoring automatically on a daily basis at the given time. The deactivation works like the deactivation by remote controller. By default the automatic deactivation is not in use. Monitoring will be deactivated daily at 07:00. The current time is 07:47. You can disable the feature by sending 6547 time deactivation off. 38

Command Description Response 6547 time deactivation off Disables the automatic deactivation. Automatic monitoring deactivation disabled. 5.5 Listing all commands (help) You can request a list of available commands with example values. Note! The command list is long and the response will take a while to be delivered. Command Description Response 6547 help Sends a mini help. List of SMS commands with example values. You can enable the deactivation by sending 6547 time deactivation HH:MM. 39

5.6 Adding and removing users (phone numbers) Gea supports up to 10 simultaneous users (i.e. phone numbers). All users receive all notification messages and have the same rights to control Gea (there is no master user ). If not stated otherwise, response messages to commands are sent only to the user who sent the command. If the last user removes himself or herself, Gea has to be activated again by using the add first user command (see 3.2). Note! The phone numbers must always be written in the international format (e.g ). Command Description Response 6547 add user Adds a new user. User added. You can remove any user by sending 6547 remove user PHONE NUMBER. You can list all users by sending 6547 users. 40

The duration is given in seconds. Valid duration values are integers of The buzzer can be turned off by setting the duration to 0. 43

5.8 Monitoring sensors leaving and entering the main unit s wireless range The main unit keeps track of all sensors and will send a notification if a sensor is not connected anymore. With the connection loss delay command you can set the delay that the main unit waits for the connection to return before sending the notification. Note! Connection loss notifications become more probable if the wireless connection is weak and the delay is short. With the connection loss buzzer on/off commands you can adjust the buzzer behaviour in case of a lost connection. By default, the buzzer will not make a sound when a connection is lost. 44

Command Description Response 6547 connection loss delay 10 Sets the connection loss delay for sensors. The delay defines in which time period the main unit has to receive at least one message from a sensor. If the main unit is not able to receive a message in the defined time, a notification is sent. The value is given in minutes. Valid values are integers of The default value is 5 min. Connection loss delay set to 10 min. A notification is sent if the connection between the main unit and a sensor is missing for longer than the delay. 45

Command Description Response 6547 connection loss buzzer on 6547 connection loss buzzer off Sounds the buzzer if the connection to a sensor is lost. Does not sound the buzzer if the connection to a sensor is lost. This is the default behaviour. The buzzer will sound if the connection between the main unit and a sensor is lost. 51 5.12 Testing connection quality You can test the wireless connection quality between the main unit and all the sensors with the connection test command. This can be useful if you encounter connection problems and need to optimise the positions of your main unit and sensors. Command Description Response 6547 connection test Tests the wireless connections between the main unit and the sensors. Connection test started. You will receive the results in two minutes. In case of connection problems, you have several options: Move the main unit and the sensors closer to each other. Adjust the units positions even small adjustments can make considerable changes to connection quality. Position the units so that there is minimal amount of obstacles between the main unit and the sensors. Remove obstacles that are between the units. After making adjustments, rerun the test to see if the situation improved. 51

Note! Wireless connection quality may vary with time. Good connection at the testing moment is not a guarantee of future conditions Checking unit information The unit names command will show the names of the registered units in a compact format. You can see more detailed information about the main unit and the sensors with the unit info command. Command Description Response 6547 unit names Lists all units. Gea main unit (MU) Sensor (SE1) Remote controller (RC1) 52

5.14 Controlling motion detection You can turn the motion detection of the sensors and the main unit on and off. By default, the motion detection is on for sensors but off for the main unit. Turning a sensor s motion detection off can be useful e.g.: If you want to move an object near the main unit without notifications, but want to be informed when the object enters or leaves the main unit s wireless range. If you use a sensor and a magnet e.g. with a door. You may want to turn the main unit s motion detection on e.g.: To increase the security of your system and prevent tampering with the main unit. For using the main unit as a motion detector e.g. in a bag. Note! The main unit does not detect motion while its buzzer is sounding! 54

Command Description Response 6547 motion detection off se motion detection on se1 Disables the motion detection of the main unit or a sensor. By default the motion detection is on for sensors but off for the main unit. Enables the motion detection of the main unit or a sensor. Motion detection of Front door (SE1) disabled. You can enable the motion detection by sending 6547 motion detection on se1. Motion detection of Front door (SE1) enabled. You can disable the motion detection by sending 6547 motion detection off se1. 55

5.15 Connecting Gea to third party systems (cameras, security services) Gea can send custom messages to three phone numbers when an event (motion, magnet or connection loss) occurs. The custom messages can be used to: Command a third party GSM camera to take a picture. Send alarm messages to a security service without adding the security service as a user (with full control of the system). Note! You can use any GSM camera which accepts SMS control messages and sends the picture or video to another phone or . 56

Command Description Response 6547 custom text Sends a custom message defined by the user (in the example text) to the defined number (in the example ) in case of a motion, magnet detachment or connection loss event. There can be up to three custom messages. Messages #2 and #3 can be defined by changing the beginning of the command to custom2 or custom3. You can use the custom messages e.g. to control an external camera. There is a delay of about 5 seconds between the sending of two custom messages (simultaneous events trigger only one message). Message text will be sent to in case of certain events. See the user manual for more information. You can list all custom messages by sending 6547 customs. 57

Command Description Response 6547 remove custom1 Removes the first custom message. Custom messages #2 and #3 can be removed correspondingly by changing the end of the command to custom2 or custom3. Custom1 message removed. You can list all custom messages by sending 6547 customs customs Lists the custom messages. Custom1: text ( ) Custom2: - Custom3: Limiting the amount of notification messages Gea has a precautionary daily notification limit. A warning is sent when the limit is reached. You can adjust the limit to suit your needs. Note! Because of the possibility of custom messages and multiple users, the number of notifications (events) and the number of SMS messages may not be the same in all cases. Note! Gea will always respond to valid commands regardless of the limit. 58

Command Description Response 6547 notification limit 100 Sets the upper limit for SMS notifications sent by the system in one day. The limit covers the following notifications: motion connection lost (also connection returned ) magnet weak connection sensor battery voltage low (also voltage is sufficient ) MU voltage low temperature (also returned to the set range ) MU changed to internal/external power The system will send a notification when the limit is reached. If the limit is set to 0, the notification will not be sent. The notification counter is reset when: the limit is set the MU is turned off the MU is reset Valid values are integers of The default value is 50. Limit set and counter zeroed. The system will send no more than 100 notification(s) per day. If you have several users, one notification will lead to several SMS messages! 59

5.17 Extending main unit s battery life The main unit is fully operational also without an external power source. The main unit s battery life can be extended by using the power saving mode. In the power saving mode, the LEDs will be shut down (only the power LED will blink). The power saving mode will not affect the SMS messaging delays. See also 6.2 about using an external battery pack. Command Description Response 6547 power saving on 6547 power saving off Turns the main unit s LEDs off to save power. The green LED will still blink every 3 seconds when the unit is on. Restores normal LED functionalities. Main unit s LEDs turned off (the green LED will blink every 3 seconds). You can disable the power saving by sending 6547 power saving off. Power saving disabled. 60

6 Maintenance 6.1 Powering and charging the main unit The main unit can be powered by using the Micro-USB charger included in the product package (voltage 5 V, current 500 ma). The main unit has an internal battery that is recharged when external power is supplied to the Micro-USB port. The internal battery can be used as an independent power source when using the main unit as a mobile device and as a backup source e.g. during blackouts. Recharging a completely empty battery takes about five hours. Note! The internal battery cannot be recharged in temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius. Note! To avoid damaging the internal battery, it is recommended to fully recharge the battery at least once per month even if the main unit is not used. 6.2 Using an external battery pack You can extend the main unit s operational time by using an external battery pack. You can use a battery pack that is certified to work with mobile phones, has a 5 V output and a Micro-USB connector. The main unit consumes about 1000 mah per day when in the power saving mode, and about 2000 mah per day when the power saving mode is off. A 4000 mah battery pack will extend Gea s operational time with up to four days. 61

6.3 Adding and removing sensors and remote controllers You can add up to 10 sensors and 10 remote controllers to one main unit. First set the main unit to accept new units (the power LED will start blinking). Command Description Response 6547 add unit Sets the system to accept new units. New units can be added as long as the main unit s green LED is blinking constantly. You can add a unit by pressing the higher (or only) button for more than 10 seconds. The red LED will turn on when the button has been pressed for long enough. The main unit can be set to accept new units also by using a remote controller that has been added to the main unit earlier. Button press Function LED indication for success Both buttons for 5 10 s Sets the system to accept new units. Corresponding SMS command add unit 62

When the main unit s green LED is blinking, you can add the new unit by pressing the button of the new unit for more than 10 seconds. The green LED will turn on when the button has been pressed for 5 10 seconds. The red LED will turn on when the button has been pressed for more than 10 seconds and you can release the button. Button press LED indication Meaning The upper button of the new remote controller or the button of the new sensor for more than 10 seconds 63 New unit added to the main unit. Remember to test that the new unit works as expected. Main unit s unit list is full. To add a new unit of this kind, one of the current units has to be removed. Please note that if you add one unit to the main unit several times, several unit slots are consumed. When a new unit is added, an SMS is sent to notify all users. Note! When the green LED starts blinking, you have 60 seconds to add a new unit. If a new unit is not added in time, the main unit has to be set to accept new units again. Note! Each time a new unit is added, the main unit continues accepting new units for another 60 seconds. This allows the easy addition of several units in a row.

A unit can be removed from the system. This may be necessary e.g. when a remote controller is lost or stolen. Command Description Response 6547 remove unit se1 Removes a unit from the system (e.g. a lost sensor). Note! The return message is sent to all users! Unit Front door (SE1) removed. You can list all units by sending 6547 unit names. Note! One sensor or remote controller can be connected to one main unit at a time. If you add a sensor or remote controller to another main unit, the unit will not work with the previous main unit any more. 6.4 Changing batteries To change the battery of a sensor or a remote controller: 1. Open the unit by unscrewing the screws (Torx T6) on the back of the unit. Try to avoid touching the circuit board. 2. Replace the battery (Saft LS 14250). Be careful to insert the new battery in the correct direction, noting the plus and minus signs. 64

3. Check that the rubber seal between the sides is positioned as evenly as possible. This is important for ensuring the waterproof insulation of the unit. 4. Screw the sides of the unit back together. 5. Test the unit. Note that the low battery indication (red LED) of the remote controller might not stop before pressing a button, after replacing the battery. Note! The main unit s internal battery is to be replaced by authorised service personnel only. Do not open the main unit. 6.5 Resetting Gea to factory settings Warning! Reset the main unit only when necessary! After reset, all users and settings are erased and all units have to be added again. To reset Gea means setting it to the factory state. To reset Gea: 1. Check that the main unit is on (the green LED is on or blinking). 2. Deactivate the monitoring (otherwise the buzzer will turn on). 3. Press the main unit s button for more than 10 seconds. When you have pressed the button for long enough, the green LED will turn off and you can release the button. The main unit resets and restarts itself and the green LED blinks three times. After up to 15 seconds, the green LED starts blinking continuously for one minute. Units can be added while the LED is blinking (see 6.3). To set the first user, follow the steps described in

Under normal conditions, the unit will send an SMS about being reset. However, the unit will reset itself even if there is no GSM connection and the SMS cannot be sent. 6.6 Requesting version information for support request If you need to contact your retailer or the manufacturer because of a problem (check chapter 7 first), please use the info command and forward the information to the support team. Command Description Response 6547 info Sends system information. SW revisions: MU: 3225 SE1: 3225 SE2: 3225 RC1: 3225 GSM: 1137B01V01SIM900M32_ST 66

7 Troubleshooting It seems that the GSM connection does not work and the main unit s blue LED won t turn on. Have you placed a SIM card to the main unit? Has the SIM card s PIN code request been turned off? If the request is on, the PIN code has to be Is there a GSM network available? (remote locations) If you take the SIM card from the main unit and use it in a phone, does it work normally? If the SIM has been locked, you will have to unlock it following the service provider s or your phone manufacturer s instructions. It seems that the GSM connection does not work even if the blue LED is on. If you re using a prepaid SIM card, ensure that the card has sufficient balance. 67

I try to send an SMS command but keep getting the Erroneous command response. Have you written the command exactly as instructed in this user manual? If you are trying to set a setting, have you followed the instructions regarding the valid values? Have you read all the instructions related to the command you are trying to send? I try to send an SMS command but I don t get any response. Have you been added as a user? Have you written the valid passcode at the beginning of the command? Is the main unit s blue LED on? Did your command include unusual characters? 68

A sensor or a remote controller does not work at all. Nothing happens when I press a button. Sensors: Ensure that the unit hasn t been turned off by pressing the button for more than 5 seconds and releasing it. If the unit does not turn on (the green LED does not start blinking), replace the battery. Remote controllers: Replace the battery. I move a sensor but nothing happens. Is the monitoring on? Had the sensor been moved during the last 20 seconds already? After detecting movement, there is a 20 second period when further movement is ignored. Had the sensor been away from the main unit s area? If you bring a sensor back to the area, the sensor has to stay still for about one minute before its motion detection is activated. 69

I received a connection loss notification for no apparent reason. If there is no obvious reason for the notification, e.g. the sensor being taken away from the area, check the sensor with a connection test. There are two ways to test the connection: Press the sensor s button briefly (see 4.2.1) or Use the connection test SMS command (see 5.12). I have a problem and none of the instructions in this user manual seem to help. First of all, please ensure that you have read the entire manual. If you still have problems, reset the main unit following the instructions in 6.5. Warning! Reset the main unit only when necessary! After reset, all users and settings are erased and all units have to be added again. 70

I lost my phone or SIM card and cannot control the system any more. You will have to reset the main unit following the instructions in 6.5. I forgot the passcode and cannot control the system any more. You will have to reset the main unit following the instructions in
