4 INTRODUCTION The inspiration for establishing this monumental institution was solely derived from addressing the global shortage of pilots which also manifests conspicuously in Nigeria, affecting major airlines and oil and gas companies. The syllabus is based on the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations Personnel Licenses Curriculum which complies with and exceeds ICAO requirements. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will issue a CPL after successful completion of the course. 5 HISTORY International Aviation College, Ilorin is an aviation institution established by the Government of Kwara State but has been planned to be jointly owned with the private sector. It is established to train different professionals for the rapidly expanding Nigerian and International aviation industry including pilots (fixed wing and helicopter), air traffic controllers, engineers and cabin crew. The college is located in Ilorin, Kwara State in central Nigeria. The site is geographically ideal for flying because of its all year round good flying weather and flat topography. Our first programme is the ab-initio training of fixed wing pilots. The training we offer will bring a student from zero to acquisition of a commercial Pilot s License with Multi-Engine and Instrument Ratings in 18 months or less in aviation training COLLEGE

7 WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE IAC We are equipped with state of the art structure, latest teaching techniques and computer aided learning. Highly qualified and experienced Certified Instructors and personnel to offer only the best training. Our airplanes are EFIS equipped which is the Latest Flight Deck Instrumentation (EFIS) and Engine Management System. The training location is blessed with better year round flying weather and an uncluttered local airspace in which training can be done safely. We have full instrument approach facilities to practice Instrument Flying. Essential knowledge and skill-sets in the disciplines of; Safety Management, Crew Resource Management, Aeronautical Decision Making and Threat & Error Management will be imparted in aviation training COLLEGE

8 OUR FACILITIES FACILITIES The main campus houses the administration offices and classrooms, aircraft hanger with provisions for the aircraft engineering (Mechanic) school as well as the future helicopter division. Apart from the classrooms and other aviation training facilities, IAC has student dormitories and a cafeteria. Some sport facilities are already in place, while others like playing fields, a swimming pool, a gymnasium will provided. We have all the necessary amenities to make the campus a comfortable and safe learning environment. The college's flight training facilities are located within the IAC campus area. Compared with other major cities around the world, weather conditions in Ilorin permit more good weather flight days. SIMULATOR To supplement actual flight training, synthetic training devices(flight simulators) will be utilized to maximize flighttraining benefits and offer high fidelity simulation to aid in instruction. The simulators have high resolution visual systems, electronic control loading, digital sound, EFIS and FMS. The instructor stations are completely manageable from within the virtual cockpit, adding to the immersion effect. This enables the student to practice and gain enhanced proficiency in flying. HOSTEL The modern superior accommodation available at IAC is one of the many advantages of training at IAC. A dedicated Student hostel on campus provides all the amenities necessary for comfortable living including on site laundry facilities, cable TV, computer internet facilities and student lounge rooms. The college cafeteria provides meals for students and staff 7 days a week and features a variety of Nigerian and Continental food at reasonable cost. MAINTENANCE The college has an in-house maintenance facility for the school aircraft which meets all NCAA standards. Experienced, Licensed, Factory trained engineers and technicians maintain the entire fleet ensuring minimum downtime with no loss in flying training. 9 THE CAMPUS The College is located very close to Ilorin International Airport with a taxi way spanning from the college to the runway of the airport. This strategic location is advantageous for students' experience of standard and advanced airport operating procedure. The city of Ilorin is blessed with good all year round flying weather. 10 TRAINING AIRCRAFT FLEET Training Aircraft Fleet The College selected the Diamond aircraft for its operations after very careful considerations that include the following: Garmin G1000 Glass Cockpit - puts a wealth of flightcritical data at student s fingertips. Its glass flight deck presents flight instrumentation, navigation, weather, terrain, traffic and engine data on large-format and highresolution displays. Students get familiar from the beginning with the same type of cockpit environment they will be using on the newer commercial aircrafts. Synthetic Vision Technology - Using sophisticated graphics modeling, the system recreates a 3-D virtual reality database landscape on the pilot and copilot PFDs. Thus, Garmin SVT enables you to clearly visualize nearby flight and enroute navigation features - even in solid IFR or night time VFR condition. Fuel - Diamond airplanes use diesel and Jet A1 fuel instead of Av-Gas used by other trainers and are fuel efficient. Moreover, AV-Gas is not readily available in Nigeria. With easy access to Jet A1 fuel at our base, Ilorin airport, there is no downtime, increasing flying time for students. Our aircraft are well maintained by our in-house maintenance engineers, we have a reputation for quality workmanship of the highest order. IAC is also a DIAMOND Maintenance Centre. 13 SHORT COURSES ICAO English - Rating & Teaching The ICAO has recently requested that all contracting states require all their certified airmen to be certified as fluent in Aviation English to Level 4 proficiency. The IAC, in cooperation with Kwara State University, will offer a course in Aviation English to any interested party that applies. At the conclusion of the course, the required testing will be accomplished and the individual will be certified to ICAO Level 4 English Proficiency. AVIATION SAFETY International Aviation College will offer aviation safety conference in locations within Nigeria. This is designed to provide information for airline and corporate aviation managers and flight crew personnel. A veteran international panel of speakers will present important information for improvement of aviation safety in Africa. Topics will range from CRM, anti-terrorism to accident investigation and prevention. THREAT AND ERROR MANAGEMENT (CREW RESOURCE MANAGEMENT) Eight-five percent (85%) of all aircraft accidents are caused by operator (pilot) error. All US and many international airlines have developed cutting edge Threat and Error Management programs to reduce the human mistakes that result in aircraft accidents and the resulting loss of lives. CRM has been credited with major reduction in these pilot error, hence accidents. IAC in cooperation with leading international airlines, will present the latest CRM techniques and procedures in a three-day CRM conference available to all African airline and corporate aviation management and operations personnel. Other short courses, conferences, seminars and customized courses are available in aviation training COLLEGE

14 COURSE DELIVERY Ground Training includes the very latest computer learning software including CBT and CAI, classroom lecture and practical demonstration by experienced ground instructors utilizing a multimedia approach. The Computer Based Training (CBT) course material are accessible in the college computer during classes and after hours. In the future an online option will be available for registered students. TRAINING MANUALS Training manuals are used to supplement the classroom computer software and instructor presentations. 16 IAC TRAINING CURRICULUM & SELECTION PROCESS IAC TRAINING CURRICULUM IAC admits applicants, for its modular courses; PPL(A), CPL(A), ME, IR or the INTEGRATED CPL/IR/ME, as an ab-initio entrant or as a holder of license issued in accordance with ICAO Annex 1 and NCAR Part 2. Flying will be conducted on the Diamond DA 40 Single Engine and DA 42 Multi Engine Aircraft with the most advanced Glass Cockpit and Garmin 1000 instrumentation. The courses comprise of; a) Visual and Instrument Flying training; and b) Theoretical knowledge instruction Candidates meeting IAC minimum educational and pre-selection requirements as well as the NCAR age and medical requirements stated below will be offered admission; (1.) Age: Candidates must not be less than 17 years old at the time of enrolment. (2.) Educational qualification: Minimum of WASC/NECO/O' Level, with at least (05) five credits, which must include Mathematics, English and a science subject. (3.) Medical Qualification: Candidate must be capable of holding a NCAA Class 1 Pilot Medical. (4.) Candidates must pass the pre-selection screening exercise comprising of aptitude test, ability test and oral interview. SELECTION PROCESS Short listed candidates will have to take the aptitude and ability tests which include; psychometric and personality tests, trial flying lessons, interviews and English proficiency test (for International Students). This helps minimize attrition rates and subsequent costs to individuals and organizations. 18 SPONSORSHIP As much as International Aviation College would like to make pilot training affordable and accessible to everyone, the cost of training pilots runs high. Consequently, International Aviation College is continuously in touch with State Governments, Local Governments, Airlines, Oil and Gas Companies, private individuals and other corporate organization to assist in student sponsorship. However, some other established scholarship programs within the aviation training industry include: LOW INCOME STUDENT SPONSORSHIP US President Thomas Jefferson once said,...the children of the poor must be thus educated at common expense. However, even today, many students cannot attend a college or university. This financial aid program is design to sponsor a student from a low income family. COMPANY SPONSORSHIP This program is designed for airline and oil industry employers. An employer would guarantee a loan to cover the training fees for a number of qualifying students. At the end of the training, the sponsored candidates would be employed by the sponsored employer for a number of years, during which the loan would be repaid from the sponsored student s income. This is a win-win program where the student gets quality training and a job, while the sponsor has a skilled employee at a lower cost when compared to hiring from overseas. WOMEN WITH WINGS (WWW) SPONSORSHIP Bessie Coleman would not be deterred. In November 1920, Coleman headed to France. Several months later, she became the first African American woman in the world to earn an international pilot s license from the Federation Aeronautique Internationale. She spent her life following her dream. She blazed a path that women aviators have followed ever since. Women with Wings (WWW) was created with the goal of sponsoring a female student from Nigeria. International Aviation College strongly encourages females in our program. Our goal is to have forty percent (40%) of each classroom filled with young female aviators.
